Work Text:
It was a stormy midnight in New York City. Iron Man was fighting a villain with an unknown identity. [It was unknown because the villain was wearing a 15 foot tall suit of armer.]
All he knew was that this huge antagonist had stolen the Mind Stone and the Power Stone, it was Tony’s job to retrieve it. All the sudden, the suited man came from behind and hit Tony very hard on the head which sent him crashing forward. Tony heard F.R.I.D.A.Y. say something through his suit, but his major concussion wouldn’t allow him to hear more than mumbling.
He looked up and saw the suited man was charging a large beam at his arc reactor with the strength of the infinity stones! He attempted to stand up, only to realize that he was extremely stuck. He tried to charge a beam back, only to realize his suit didn’t have enough energy! He closed his eyes, preparing for the fatal blow. He then heard a voice scream, “No!” and heard a pair of feet jump in front of him, it was Peter!
Tony was about to tell Peter to get out of harm’s way, but it was to late. The man than pointed the beam at Peter, released it, and Tony stared in desperation as he saw the beam hit Peter practically everywhere. The poor kid was blasted all the way across the building and off the side! The villain made a small blast at Tony where the ruble was keeping him down and then flew away. Tony didn’t bother to follow him though; he flew off the building side to try to catch his precious intern. He failed, and watched Peter hit the ground hard.
Tony woke up with cold sweats and his heart racing 50 miles an hour. His vision so blurred he couldn’t see, but he heard a voice faintly speaking to him. He heard the voice say, “Calm down, just take a deep breath in, deep breath out.” Tony followed the instructions and they seemed to help. “Deep breath in, deep breath out, that’s it.” Tony came to his senses and suddenly realized the sort of embarrassing situation he had gotten himself into. He was sitting in a chair in a Medbay hospital room, leaning forward towards Peter’s hospital bed, and squeezing Peter’s hand extremely tight. He quickly sat and up and let go of the kid’s hand.
“Sorry, must’ve fallen asleep.” Tony mumbled quickly. He glanced up at his kid. Peter had one broken leg, a broken arm, four broken ribs, three concussions, and also bruises and very deep cuts all over him. It hurt Tony so bad to see Peter like this, but the thought of leaving his side killed him.
“It’s okay, I understand.” Peter replied sympathetically.
“How are you feeling?” Tony asked. He was about too say Are you good? But thought that that would be stupid, this kid is obviously NOT good, and it was all his fault.
“As good as I can be.” Peter said with a laugh and a smile. “How are you?”
“Worried sick about you! Why did you jump in front of me kid? That wasn’t your fight and wasn’t your problem.” Tony stated out of instinct. He instantly regretted saying that as he watched Peter’s eyes fill up with tears.
“Not my problem!? Mr. Stark, I couldn’t just sit there and watch you die!” Peter said loudly with many voice cracks and was breathing heavily. Peter turned away, but Tony knew he was crying.
“Pete- no- I didn’t mean to-please don’t cry! It’s fine, I’m sorry I said anything.” Tony said while holding the kid close to him, being careful of his injuries. Peter simply leaned his head closer to Tony’s chest. Tony listened to Peter’s breath and heart beat slowly return to a normal speed.
“I love you Tony.” Peter said after nearly two whole hours of silence. Tony could feel himself blushing and couldn’t help but smile.
“I love you too Peter.”
