Work Text:

lisa sat hunched over at her desk, the moonlight lighting up the pages. she peeled through them, mindlessly reading the words that stared back at her- words like “ cursed that reminded her of the punishment that came with her vision. she suddenly longed for jean to come envelope her in her arms, and hold her tight and tell her that everything will be okay.

but it won’t be okay. lisa doesn’t know how much time she has left, and it’s scary. as much as she tries to come to terms with it, the thought of leaving jean makes her want to vomit.

tears rolled off lisa’s cheeks, dotting the worn pages that sat on her desk. she buried her face in her hands as the moonlight illuminated her, making her a silhouette against the stars that shone above mondstadt. lisa didn’t want to die, she didn’t want to leave behind all the people she loved. her cries turned to silent sobs, her body trembling as she wiped her tears.

all she wanted was jean. jean could make her feel okay, and whisper sweet nothings into her hair. she could caress lisa, wipe the tears from her face. but jean was at home already, she had left the headquarters hours ago. lisa knew she should go home, but something about the cold, thick air in the library and the lack of lights was comforting in the moment of despair.

the tears wouldn’t stop, lisa eventually just laying her head on the desk as the tears dripped down into her lap. she shot her head up when she heard a creak by the door, being ready to get up and run. but when a blonde figure walked through the door, lisa couldn’t help but to start crying even harder.

“lisa,” jean immediately embraced lisa, arms wrapped protectively around her. “what’s wrong?”

“the curse,” lisa cried, face buried in jean’s chest. jean’s face, while lisa couldn’t see it, was painted with sadness- one indescribably empty.

“it’s okay.” jean hushed her and ran her hands through her hair, eyes closed.

“i don’t want to leave you, jean.” lisa’s voice quivered as she looked up at jean with bloodshot eyes and tear-stained cheeks.

“i’ll be here for you forever, my dear,” jean felt tears brimming in her eyes, hoping they dissolved before they could roll down her cheeks.

“but i won’t..” lisa cried, tears staining jean’s shirt. all jean could do was keep her arms wrapped around the brunette girl, calming her down.

after they stood in each other’s embrace for nearly 20 minutes, jean grabbed lisa’s cold, thin hand.

“why don’t we go home now, sweetheart,” jean cooed, watching as lisa’s eyelids began to flutter. lisa nodded, yawning as jean led her out of the headquarters and out to the brisk mondstadt wind. the two made the short walk to their home before lisa immediately fell asleep clutching jean, who softly closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep- but only after a “goodnight my love.”
