Work Text:
“Boy!” He hollers, his voice echoing through the halls and bouncing off the walls. “Ain’t nowhere t’ run! Ye best come out now! Right now!” He snaps, walking through the house. “Athelstan! Come out now! I know ye can hear me!”
“The whole neighborhood can hear you, sweetheart.” Uhtred says, opening the front door.
Sihtric follows him and closes the door behind them. “Why are you threatening our son?”
“Are you trying to scare him?” Uhtred asks, stepping closer.
“I’d be scared.” Sihtric mumbles.
Uhtred nods. “I wouldn’t come to you if you used that voice on me.”
Sihtric stares at him sideways and smiles. “Yeah you would.”
Uhtred shakes his head. “Not if I was actually in trouble.”
Finan sighs deeply. “I can’t find ‘im an’ we’re playing hide-n-seek an’ it’s been an hour an’ I’m worried!”
Uhtred tilts his head. “Athelstan?” He glances at Sihtric and smiles.
Sihtrc sighs and grabs Finan’s hand. “We know where he’s at.”
Finan shakes his head. “I’ve looked everywhere! He can’t be in the house!” Sihtric ignores his comment and pulls him down the hall towards their room. Finan shakes his head again as they step inside. “I looked in the closets.”
Sihtric lets him go and moves closer to the bed. He stops to the floor and pulls the blanket up. He looks under the bed and the toddler is curled up asleep.”
Finan blinks and shakes his head. “Well fuck. How does he even fit under there?”
Sihtric shrugs as he reaches under the bed and grabs one of the kid’s arms. “Athelstan, come on, sweetheart. Time to wake up.”
Athelstan whimpers softly and rubs his eyes. “Did I win, Da?”
Sihtric smiles and nods. “You always win.”
