Work Text:
Bennie just wanted to get to her cabin. It’s a valid want, considering it’s late and she's tired and is so ready to pass out. It seems however, that her curse has other ideas.
She’s just finished cleaning the dishes, a process that wouldn’t have taken as long as it did if not for the pipes having to be fixed, because someone accidentally blew them up (fuck you Ajax). The sky is dark, everyone is in their cabins already, and most of the lights are off because everyones decided to go to sleep. She herself is not in bed yet, because again, she was washing the dishes (she would go on a rant about how her, a daughter of Aphrodite should not be subjected to that, but she can handle dishes. It’s just dishes. She can wash her hands to get the food particles off, and if she was really disgusted she could just take a shower.)
Anyways, she’s walking to her cabin. The camp is desolate. She’s a bit creeped out. Mainly because it's night, it's dark, no one's out, and she’s usually only out in the day. When somewhere which you’ve only seen in daylight is now shrouded in blackness, it can get a little creepy.
And you want to know what doesn’t help? The rustling in the bushes far off in the forest, the whistling of the wind—actually no, she thinks that's actual whistling wait a minute-
She screeches as before she can properly react, a blur of white, green and blue comes from the sky and tackles her to the ground, knocking the air of her lungs.
Bennie coughs, claws at her attacker, and kicks herself away from them. What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck?
The attacker only continues, unphased. She pushes herself up from the ground, dodging their hands from grabbing onto her. Only, her curse kicks in and she trips on air, which gives the attacker room to grab onto her and—
Bite her? Bennie’s going to be honest, she expected to be stabbed or something (wouldn’t be the first time), but no, she gets bitten. With sharp teeth and all.
She takes this chance to elbow the person, ripping herself out of their grip and yanking their arm. In their surprise, she knee’s their stomach and forces all of her weight onto them, forcing them to fall to the ground.
Time to figure out who the hell just tried to murder her. Round face, greenish-blue eyes, two braids, white feathers coming from his arms—goddammit, it’s Venti.
“What the hell!?” She exclaims. “Venti what the hell!?”
Venti has a sheepish look on his face. “Sorry, I thought you were a monster who somehow got into camp. First instinct was to eat you.”
Bennie’s mouth is hanging open in shock. She quickly closes it. “You’re a dumbass. How the hell did you mistake me for a whole monster? Do I look like a hellhound to you?”
Venti shrugs. “There are plenty of humanoid monsters. Anyways! We are in quite the awkward position, and I am a gay man. Can you get off of me now?”
“Gladly. I don’t want to be in contact with you any more than I have to.” Bennie scowls, scrambling off of him and dusting her clothes off. Venti stands up, doing the same.
“Anyways!” He says. “ You should get back to the pink-barbie-doll cabin, it’s past curfew.”
“I was washing the dishes. Ajax burst the pipes and we had to fix them, so I finished late.” Bennie tells him, so he wouldn’t attempt to eat her again—something she wouldn’t put past him. “Chiron knows, so it’s okay.”
Venti rolls his eyes. “Well! I’ll be on my way then. Don’t be out any longer than you have to, my colleagues may not be as nice as me.”
And with that, the harpy flaps a few times and flies back up to his perch on one of the cabins. She glares at him. “You owe me for trying to eat me!”
He simply laughs, a cackle even, and she knows she’s not going to get anything as compensation. Bennie resigns to simply going back to her cabin like she was originally, except with a little more dust on her otherwise perfect clothes.
