Getting into a fight wasn't a rare occurrence for Haru, Dark Haru liked a good fight, especially when he was hurt, but he was composing himself, getting into fights wasn't helping anybody.
Even when he tried to help, he caught one guy from a group of random dudes picking on Momiji, and he lost it. Granted he was tired, so he was on the brink of losing it either way.
But he heard one bad thing being said to his friend and he swung a punch. Haru ended up taking on the three guys and somehow, he passed out, these guys were trained like Haru. They knew how to defend themselves and put in a good punch.
Haru ended up on the side of the road, with blood all over his face and hands, he looked like crap, he felt like crap. 'I think I'm gonna die, just like this,' he thought, he could barely see. The blood had hurt his eye and it was shut.
His mind was active though, he had things on his mind, how much his hands hurt, he could cars driving past, and people around, he wanted something to comfort him, he didn't deserve it, but he thought of her.
He wanted her to on his mind forever, he missed her more than he missed not being injured, his body hurt now but it didn't hurt as much as the separation between him and her. If this was the end, he just wished he had remembered more time with her. Then he lost consciousness.
"You know this is basically kidnapping," Rin complained as she remained in a seemingly locked room at Hatori Sohma's house on a late Tuesday evening. "Is it? I wouldn't call it that." Shigure responded. Rin glared "I came to your house for answers, and you said I'd get some here then you trapped us in Hatori's office!"
"You needed rest, I was worried, I could tell, your eyes look darker than your hair." Shigure scolded, Rin was close to slapping him. "Why do you even care about my health? Go write a dirty novel and stay out of my business."
"You're the one who keeps coming to me for help."
"And all you do is lie." Rin harshly pointed out, Shigure laughed "I don't lie,"
"You lie like you need breath," Rin scoffed. Shigure didn't respond, Rin folded her arms and waited for Hatori to come back. Shigure told her he wasn't here when they arrived, so they'd have to wait.
Rin had been sitting against Hatori's office table for a half an hour by the time he was home, except he wasn't alone. Once Shigure and Rin heard the front door open, Shigure stepped forward and opened the office door, but from his expression, Rin could tell something was wrong.
She moved and pushed her way through the door, shoving Shigure aside, but after that, everything had changed; Hatori wasn't alone. He had someone on a blood-soaked gurney, and Momiji was sitting in corner, sobbing.
Rin felt her heart jump out of her chest, something had clicked in her brain and before she knew it, tears were on cheeks. Hatori was treating a beaten up Haru. Rin couldn't mistake it, she knew from his hair, but his face was different, beaten and hurt.
Her first thought had scared her to the core 'Did Akito do this?'
And following that came 'Was it because of us?'
Shigure then moved her away, apparently Hatori had been ordering her to get out of the way for the past five minutes. Shigure moved her back to the kitchen while Hatori went into his office with Haru in tow.
Shigure placed his hands on her forearms "Just breath,"
Rin hit him in the shoulder "IS THIS SOME KIND OF SICK JOKE TO YOU?!!" She shouted, Shigure rubbed his shoulder "Ow," he muttered.
"Did you know he'd be here? Is that why I'm here? Some sick twisted game to get me to see him?"
"I didn't know, I came here because you aren't well, and since I'm the only person you're voluntarily seeing, I thought I should try and help!"
Rin scoffed "You're full of shit,"
"I am not, I didn't know Haru would be here, I don't even know what happened to him!" Shigure responded, Rin sniffed, she wiped her eyes, sighing, she took a seat, folding her arms.
She didn't know how long she would wait, but she knew she wasn't going, not now, and not until she knew he was fine. Shigure took a seat opposite her, he seemed to be observing her.
She didn't want to make conversation; all she could do was wait. Shigure seemed to be the opposite "You know, you're a lot more like him than you think," he pointed out.
Rin answered with a glare, she didn't need any words. Shigure kept a calm expression "You're silent in your worry, but I can tell it's killing you; you love him so much that it's going to swallow you, or maybe it already has, that's why you're doing this." Shigure explained.
"What is your point exactly?" Rin asked bluntly, burying what he said to the back of her mind, knowing what he meant, why she was so desperate to break the curse.
"I was there, when Hatori informed Haru of your accident, I watched him lie to that poor boy of what hurt you, but before he knew everything. I was there with him. His fists were clenched, and his eyes were dark, but he was completely silent. His mind was screaming but he kept his body calm. Now, looking at you, you're doing the same."
Rin didn't want to show it, but something about that took her aback. Rin was enraged, someone had hurt him, him. The most perfect person in the world, and someone swung their arms and beaten him up. Rin didn't have to know who it was to be angry; he was hurt and that was enough to set her anger ablaze.
"Why are you telling me this? You want to feel like crap for dumping him?" Rin asked, Shigure shook his head "You already feel bad for doing that, I was just pointing out my observations."
"No one has ever asked for your observations, it doesn't matter what you think, of me, or him. You're not a part of this."
Shigure nodded "I'm not, but it's entertaining." he informed her. Rin glared harder, she was two seconds from mounting his head into a wall when Hatori walked in, Rin rushed to him "What happened?" she demanded to know.
Hatori sighed "He got into a fight,"
"Was it Akito?" Rin asked, Hatori shook his head "No, he was having a bad day, so he went to beat up some bullies," Hatori informed her, going to the sink to drink something. Rin glared at him, he seemed tired, sweat was all over his forehead, and he didn't seem annoyed, but worried, a little too worried to her liking.
"How is he?" Rin asked. Hatori sighed, "Isuzu-"
"How is he?" Rin asked again, sterner this time, using her stubbornness to win. Hatori sighed "He's hanging on for now, I'm calling his parents,"
"If he's hanging on, why aren't you taking him to a hospital?" Rin asked.
"You hate hospitals."
"I'm not the patient,"
"You're also not the doctor,"
"I am just concerned."
"I have equipment here, and here was closer to the scene, I just bought him a few extra hours to get stable before we get to a hospital tomorrow morning."
Rin quieted down then, folding her arms. Hatori looked confused to see her "Why are you here?"
"A check up," Shigure answered.
"Shigure kidnapped me." Rin answered, Hatori sighed "I don't have time for this, both of you go home, I have a patient."
"I'm not leaving him, he's hurt."
"And he'll be fine soon, but I won't be if you keep bothering me like this." Hatori stated, before he walked away, heading to the office, Rin was tempted to follow him, just to see him, if he was awake or at least better.
"I wouldn't blame you for going in there," Shigure stated from behind, Rin shook her head, she wouldn't be any weaker in front of Shigure than she already had.
"Hatori would give out," Rin responded. "That hasn't stopped you before."
Rin turned and glared "Stay out of this, you're the only one who knows the truth, that doesn't mean you have a say in what I do."
"I won't tell him, if that helps." Shigure stated, Rin sighed "No, Hatori is still around."
"Then why don't you get some rest, you need it. He won't be up for hours; you can visit him later." Shigure informed her, Rin nodded "He'll make it through the night, right?" she asked.
"Only time will tell,"
"Gure-nii!" Rin snapped. Shigure smirked. "Relax, Hatori knows what he's doing."
Rin sighed once again, soon she was back in her own bedroom, she had sat and wait. Spending the night wishing and hoping everything would fine. Rin could only hold onto to so much, hoping he'd be okay, but not hoping so much that she could end up convincing herself to take him back. She still had to protect him.
While waiting the agony of not knowing, Rin decided to pull out something of a comfort to her, she reached into her closet and found a grey sweater, it wasn't hers, she didn't like sweaters, they were itchy, so she never bought one.
But this one wasn't itchy; it was soft, and it smelled like him. Rin brought the sweater up to her nose and she clutched it to her chest, she didn't steal it from him. He gave it to her when she ripped her top while they were out on a secret date.
They had a short spit about the sweater, Rin didn't him to get cold, but he insisted he would be fine, if she was fine. "The only thing worse than being cold is watching you be cold."
Rin gave in, accepted the sweater, she would never admit it to anyone but him, but she really loved it, and wore it for the rest of the night while he stayed over. The following morning, she tried to give it back to him, but he left it in her closet and left without it.
She didn't know if it was on purpose or not, but she was glad she still had it. He was so in love when gave it to her, Rin sniffed it again, she missed him, more than she'd ever admit.
Sometimes it feels hard to breath, so she buries it. Refusing to give into the desire to see him, knowing it'll make everything worse, but also make everything so much better.
Rin sat down against the bed, letting the memories flood her brain, and lost it. Crying her eyes out into the sweater, she barely saw him, and he could have died. Her heart was pounding, her head hurt, her face became sticky from the tears.
Everything was different now, and it's her fault, she loved too easily, and it was going to get him killed one day, just like today. Rin had to break this curse, he deserved to be free, and Rin wouldn't stop until he was. But for now, she could cry, and clutch his scent.
Waking up again was like getting poured in the face with cold water while a hammer fell on his head. Haru was in pain, he awoke to a hospital bed. His parents were discussing the injuries. He could hear the conversation they were having in the hall, just outside the room.
It was bad, Haru was informed it was so bad that he was passed out on the road by the time Hatori got to him. Hatori wasn't happy at all. Haru blinked, he was thirsty.
"You're awake, that's good." a voice said. Haru blinked, Hatori was beside him, Haru winced "Are you gonna give out?"
"Yes, when you're better, but you need to heal."
"Was it really that bad?"
"You got into a fight, your head is bruised and has stitches in it, yours hands are bandaged and only one of them is okay to move right now, and you got so many kicks to the head that you almost died on the side of the road with a massive concussion, that fight was rough, and if no one had called, you would have died," Hatori informed him, Haru nodded "I think I remember almost dying, I thought I was going to die because no one was around to help."
"Well, you got lucky," Hatori stated, Haru sighed. Hatori checked his eyes, Haru was still a little disoriented. He hoped he could just go back to sleep; he was so drowsy.
A few moments went by when Hatori left, bidding goodbye to Haru. Haru sighed to himself as he was alone, he figured he wasn't going to get much sleep, his head was pounding. He looked around, the hospital hadn't changed, it had the familiar smell of sanitized equipment, possibly blood and weird hospital food.
His back was starting to hurt from the position he was in, so he sat up, just when the door opened and Haru was afraid Hatori had come back, Haru went a little wide eyed and was just met with Shigure.
"Hi," Haru greeted.
"You're sitting up?"
"It's helping,"
"I see, so you're feeling well."
"Oh no I feel like hell, but I can walk." Haru answered, Shigure smiled "That's a good sign,"
"Did you need something, Sensei?" Haru asked. Shigure shrugged "I was wondering if you were interested in having a visitor, someone has been waiting all night to check on you." Shigure informed him.
'Momiji?' Haru thought instantly, Shigure smirked "Would that be alright?"
"Yeah, sure." Haru answered, Shigure nodded, then walked from the room, Haru wasn't fully paying attention, but he heard some whispering, then the door opened again.
Haru blinked to make sure what he was looking at, it was dark, and he had a concussion, but he was sure he was looking at Rin. His heart skipped a beat. She seemed a little nervous, as she stared at him from the door "Hi," she greeted.
"Hi," he responded, Rin didn't step forward or make any indication to, Haru wasn't even sure why she was here. "You almost died," Rin stated, Haru nodded "Yeah, I guess I'm not as in control of Dark Haru as I thought."
"I didn't realize it could get this bad," Rin stated. Haru nodded "I just, lost it."
"I- I'm glad you're not dead." Rin stated, Haru smiled "Thanks Rin,"
Rin didn't smile in return, but it seemed like she wanted to, she looked so pretty in the moonlight, her eyes looked soft, he couldn't find any heat in them, he's missed her eyes. Rin turned and began to walk out, Haru didn't want her to go "Wait,"
Rin stopped, she looked back at him expectantly, her lips slightly pouted, what Haru wouldn't do to taste them right now. "I can't- I can't remember our last kiss." He stated.
Rin looked confused "You and I- You kissed me in the woods-"
"No no, not that kiss." Haru corrected "It's stupid, but I can't remember our last kiss, when we were happy and together. All I could think about was I was going to die, and I couldn't remember the last time we shared a kiss, together."
Rin's mouth formed an oh, she folded her arms, Haru looked down, realizing it was probably stupid, and pathetic. "Wednesday evening," he then heard, Rin was looking at him softly.
"It was Wednesday evening, I was at your place doing some homework, and you wanted to walk me home for the night when I insisted on going back because I wanted to be up early for that history test, I had on Thursday's. So, you walked me home, and as we got to the window I would sneak in and out, you laid your hand on my cheek, and kissed me. It was quick, and you said goodbye, like always." Rin explained slowly, her voice was low and soft.
Haru nodded in agreement, he could remember it now, he remembered that day, she was so worked up on that test, it was art history, a particular interest of hers. She was tired when he walked her home, and she still had his sweater, so she put it on before they said goodbye.
"Do you, still have the grey sweater I gave you?" Haru asked. Rin nodded "Yeah, it uh has a weird smell on it, I don't really know what to do with it."
"Oh, it must be my cologne, I spilled some all over it."
"You don't wear cologne; it just smells like you." Rin corrected, Haru smiled "Yeah, that sounds more accurate." He looked up to her eyes, this time there was a shine in them, from the moon and stars, a shine he hasn't seen since they were spending nights together.
Haru was aching to have those nights back, just looking at her now made his desire grow by each passing second, he felt like he could breathe just because she came to check up on him.
He didn't know why, but part of him wanted to believe that she was here because she still loved him.
Even now just looking at her, he could feel their eyes meet. He had to say it, he looked down and wanted the courage to say three words he knew he would get rejected for saying. But he had to say them anyway. "Rin,"
He looked up again, and she was about to go, Haru sighed, he didn't want her to go "I'm still in love with you," he said. Rin's mouth became a thin line, she sighed "Haru please- don't do this- not now."
"No, I love you, I love you! What part of that aren't you understanding?"
"Don't do this now, not after what just happened." Rin warned.
Haru clutched "Why? Because I could have died? You're here to see me and you think it's not gonna mean something?"
"It doesn't!"
"You remember our last kiss!"
"Yeah, because unlike you I don't have a concussion from being an idiot!"
"Oh, wow we're using that word again?" Haru scoffed sarcastically "You know you can be harsh and rude and shout at me all you want, but you can't act like you coming here, to see me and actually knowing the meaningful information of our relationship means nothing! Because it does!"
"Whatever it means, we're still done, we're over Haru, and nothing will change that!" Rin exclaimed, her eyes glaring with rage. Haru retracted any response he had planned.
His head was hurting, and he couldn't feel one of his hands, but somehow that hurt more. Rin folded her arms "I'm going to go,"
Haru sniffed "Yeah, that sounds about right,"
"Get better, Haru."
"I didn't think you'd care but thanks," Haru scoffed, Rin glared, she huffed, and didn't say anything else. When the door closed, indicating that she was gone, Haru may have been annoyed, but he would be lying if he wasn't still yearning for her.
She was close, but so so far. Creating a distance that neither of them wanted, and even now in a hospital bed, if Rin didn't want him now, maybe she never will.
The End.
