Work Text:

The sunlight streaming in through his windows made Mu Qing immediately curse and close his eyes as soon as he opened them. He let out a groan at the pounding of his head, moving his hand up to cover his eyes. He didn’t remember opening the blinds, he hadn’t done that since he had moved in, so he blamed it on his drunken mind. He would’ve forgotten about it but a shift on the bed next to him made him freeze and realize that even Drunk Mu Qing wouldn’t hate him enough to open the blinds, especially knowing he would be hungover to hell.

The raven braved a look next to him and almost fainted seeing a familiar bun and body structure. In proper Mu Qing fashion, he grabbed his phone, grabbed a shirt (once he saw how he was missing every single item of clothing other than his boxers), and ran to his bathroom to calm down. Which meant instantly dialing the only person he would call in this situation.

“Mu Qing?” Xie Lian asked.

“What the hell did I do last night?” He hissed out, rummaging through his cabinets. He squeaked when he looked in the mirror and saw a line of hickies running down his chest. He heard Xie Lian sigh.

“I knew you were going to ask that.” He muttered. Mu Qing grabbed his brush, anxiously running it through his hair as quickly but carefully as he could.

“Xie Lian.” He demanded, not unkindly, putting his brush down. He peeked his head out and, after verifying there was no Feng Xin in the room (and that he could hear him in the kitchen), he exited his bathroom and flopped on his bed.

“What do you remember?” Xie Lian asked, calmly.

Mu Qing let his head fall back on his pillow with a groan, keeping the phone against his ear and going through his memories to find the last thing he remembered about the night before.

“I showed up at the party. I had on my Ryan costume.” He recounted. Hua Cheng used that moment to butt into their nice conversation.

“That was such a lame costume.” He could hear Xie Lian shushing his menace of a boyfriend and he rolled his eyes.

“Shut up. You recognized it, so you have no right to talk. Plus, you were a basic fucking demon.” Mu Qing snapped.

“Did ‘I Don’t Dance’ awaken something in younger you, Mu Qing?” Hua Cheng teased. Mu Qing refused to respond, because he was technically correct.

Anyways,” He turned the conversation back towards Xie Lian, “You greeted me while your leech of a boyfriend acted like a dick, the usual.” Xie Lian laughed a bit. He thought for a bit more but nothing further was coming back to him on his own.

“Then Feng Xin showed up.” Xie Lian nudged. Mu Qing’s forehead wrinkled.

“Did he?” He asked, genuinely curious.

“Yes,” Xie Lian said, “He was dressed as Chad, and you two started arguing because it looked like you were matching.” He was giggling as he told the story, making Mu Qing glower. Best friend and innocent, his ass.

“Shut up. That still doesn’t explain why he is in my house.” Mu Qing said, looking at his door and making sure Feng Xin hadn’t come back yet.

“Well…” Xie Lian started, seeming like he truly didn’t want to go on in fear of Mu Qing’s wrath.

“Hua Cheng?” Mu Qing asked, knowing the other wouldn’t hesitate to inform him of his embarrassing actions.

“We left you in the middle and by the time we came back, you two had your tongues down each other’s throats.” Hua Cheng told him, cackling when Mu Qing let out a screech.

“Liar!” He shouted at the phone, glaring as if they could see him.

“He’s not lying, Mu Qing…” Xie Lian sighed, quieting down his boyfriend, “Someone told you two to get a room and well… you both left. I think we all figured what happened.”

Mu Qing’s mouth was open in shock and he mentally did more than just cuss his drunk self out. Because, really, Drunk Mu Qing? What the fuck?

Feng Xin chose that moment to open the door with a tray of breakfast in his hands, looking as nervous as Mu Qing felt. Against his demands, his heart fluttered at how domestic it felt. Mu Qing cussed Hua Cheng out a bit more before telling Xie Lian goodbye for him and Feng Xin and hanging up.

Feng Xin set the tray down between them, sitting on the end of the bed as they ate in silence. Mu Qing only dared to break said silence after he had properly finished eating.

“Did we sleep together?” He asked. Feng Xin, who was not done, ended up choking on a hashbrown and Mu Qing moved quickly to slam his hand on his back until he was stable.

“Jesus, Mu Qing,” Feng Xin said, still coughing. At least Mu Qing looked a bit guilty.

“Well, it was an important question.” He shrugged. Feng Xin sighed.

“No, we didn’t,” Mu Qing sighed in relief, but Feng Xin continued, “We would’ve, but I made us stop because you were completely hammered and I wasn’t exactly sober either.” Mu Qing gulped, not even being able to imagine how gone he was. He was probably extremely clingy, how embarrassing.

“Why was I practically naked?” Mu Qing raised an eyebrow. Feng Xin blushed.

“Drunk you is… an experience.” He said, rubbing the back of his neck. Mu Qing blushed.

“Shut up.” Mu Qing pulled his knees to his chest and rested his chin on his knees.

“Do you want coffee? You ran out so I couldn’t make any.” Feng Xin suddenly asked, pointedly not looking at his legs. Mu Qing snorted but winced at the pain that brought.

“Coffee sounds good.”

🎃

“If I hear pumpkin spice one more time, I’m going to scream.” Mu Qing grouched, not even waiting for the door to shut behind him before complaining. Feng Xin snorted. The coffee had been obtained, but not before Mu Qing had been asked if he wanted a Pumpkin Spice Latte and took great offense to it. Now, they were headed back to Mu Qing’s place so Feng Xin could drop him off.

Mu Qing kept the lead, complaining loudly to himself for a solid 5 minutes while Feng Xin trailed behind. Still in his outfit from last night, Feng Xin felt a bit awkward. Luckily, Mu Qing had taken pity on him and given him a sweatshirt to wear over it. It wasn’t much, but it was something. While Feng Xin watched the agitated man, he noticed something and caught up to him.

“Mu Qing, stop for a second,” Feng Xin said, grabbing his hand to make sure he did. Mu Qing, who had still been ranting, stopped and rolled his eyes, mustering up the most annoyed face he could while looking at him. Feng Xin let go of his hand and reached out with it towards his face, making Mu Qing’s eyes widen and causing him to freeze. The hand went past his head and into his hair for a second before returning and throwing something to the ground. When Mu Qing looked at him, confused, Feng Xin shrugged.

“You had a leaf in your hair.” His mouth formed an O and he nodded, both of them falling back into an uncomfortable silence. It stretched on until they finally arrived at Mu Qing’s front door, prompting the man to have to say, well. Something as a goodbye.

“Y-” He started.

“Let me take you out to dinner.” Feng Xin rushed out, tips of his ears now pink and not looking at him.

“What?” Mu Qing asked.

“I feel bad about last night so let me take you out to dinner. As an apology.” Feng Xin said, messing with his hands and staring down at them.

“Do you think I really want an apology, Feng Xin?” Mu Qing sighed. Feng Xin looked up at him softly.

“Do you think I really don’t want to take you out to dinner, Mu Qing?” Feng Xin shot back, a teasing grin on his face. Mu Qing wanted to smack (or kiss) that expression right off of his infuriatingly hot face. Or stomp like a child.

“Fine.” He grit out.

“I’ll see you tonight then.” Feng Xin said, giving him a small wave as he walked down his front steps, whistling a bit and strolling down the sidewalk with his hands in his pockets. Mu Qing watched him, unable to stop the grin spread across his face. He still had his sweater on, too.

What a dork.
