Chapter Text
Robs eye wandered
He didn't want to be at school, or anywhere for that matter
But he didn't really have many other places to go
He was tired. He hadn't gotten that much sleep the night before and everyone who glanced in his direction he felt as if they saw that in the look in his eye, before looking away and forgetting all about him.
He had never been able to get someone to remember him for longer than a few moments and he wondered how he could become less forgettable
He wondered if that was even possible.
Soon enough, but what felt as though it could have been years, the bell rang signifying that the class had ended
He scooped up his books and he made his way out of the classroom, still pondering what he could do about his predicament.
He kept his head down for the most part and he thought for a moment maybe that was the reason he was never interacted with outside of anything that was needed of him.
Of course, the teachers talked to him but only as long as they needed to to get him on task and working. Attendance was the only time he ever heard his name said correctly and sometimes it was even then, they never even remembered five minutes later.
It had burned a hole through his heart long ago, and he never quite healed from it, but he was more… used to it.
It still stung to be forgotten but he decided about a week into junior high that being sorta invisible was better than being visible in a horrible way.
He saw what always happened to the others who everyone remembered with the mean kids
He shivered
He never wanted that to be him, but he didn't have too much of a say in the matter of if he was treated nicely or targetted
He walked down to the cafeteria, there was rarely any empty tables but today he was apparently in luck because he had an empty table not to far from where he was and he made his way over to it
He sat down, he noted that once he sat down whenever someone had been going to it immediately looked for another spot to sit down.
He wondered why he still bothered with school.
The whole thing was just a huge popularity contest and if you weren't winning and if you weren't smart you weren't there.
He wondered if there was anything he could do to make friends
I mean it wasn't as if he hadn't tried but maybe if he tried harder to get them to not forget him.
He finished his food quite quickly, he was a fast eater since he never ate breakfast, thinking about it lunch was really the only meal he ate on most days.
He looked around the cafeteria, practically making a pro and con list of how difficult it would be to befriend every person there,
And if it would put him up as a target for violence.
He saw Penny, but judging by the group of kids sitting at the table he decided that it would be difficult to get her to remember his name if he was memorable.
His eye glanced around at a few other children but eventually his gaze fell on one that couldn't be that difficult.
His gaze had fallen on Gumball, a loud, easily distracted, stubborn blue cat who was friendly enough.
He also noticed how he avoided getting killed the majority of the time and if he could learn how he did that that would be very valuable to him.
He stood up, lunch was almost over but he did have the next class with him and he decided to talk to him.
He collected his stuff and made his way out of the room before the mass of students crushed him
He was quite fast due to his longer legs and he was quite a bit taller than a lot of the kids in the school, but he still liked to leaver rooms a little early or a little late so he didn't have to compete with the children who wanted to be first to everything and he would most likely get hurt
He always made it into the classrooms first so he got first pick on seats, but not today.
He purposely waited in the bathrooms until he watched Gumball go into the room and he tailed him in.
As Gumball sat down he sat behind him, of course he was much too shy to just talk to him in school but maybe if he could accidentally run into him after?
His idea needed a lot of work but it might just get him somewhere.
He listened to what Gumball and Darwin were talking about when the teacher turned around.
Yes he understood that he was being sorta creepy but it wasn't enough to make him stop.
He didn't know too much on how to make friends but Gumball mostly did and he thought that it could really benefit him to learn what the cat did to be so friendly.
He learned that later that day he and Darwin had plans to go to Elmore mall where they were presumably going to meet Penny or some other friend; he wasn't able to hear what they planned to do there.
He was this close to taking notes on their exact location but he refused to be that stalker ish and decided he could just remember when and where they would be.
Everyone got up as the bell rang but Rob hesitated
He watched as the two brothers eagerly left the classroom
He smiled, they couldn't be too difficult to befriend. He could get them to remember him. Couldn't he?
