Something Even Better

Summary:

Nagato was never the biggest fan of parties, but he could never turn down Yahiko and Konan. While he may be a bit of a corner-hugger at parties, he could handle it better than most and didn't mind the occasional chat with a random stranger...

But it seemed he caught the attention of a particular stranger that night. For better or for worse.

Work Text:

Nagato was used to doing absolutely everything together with Yahiko and Konan, and that unfortunately included going to the same parties as them. Halloween parties included matching costumes with them and everything that went with it.

They told him he didn’t have to come, but Nagato didn’t want to let them down no matter how accepting they were. Besides, it was supposed to be a small party of a few people they knew from high school in their club. So, he got himself dressed up as a vampire for this year, to match the supernatural theme of Yahiko’s werewolf and Konan’s demon and they were on their way. He knew most of the people who’d be at the party pretty well, so it wouldn’t be too bad even for an introvert like him…

That’s what he thought… until he arrived at the party and realized that those other friends went and invited their friends and then their friends invited their friends… And now, in the corner of the room was Nagato. Yahiko at least seemed to thrive in this atmosphere, while Konan stuck to a few people she knew. Nagato did not want to ruin their fun, and he could handle this for a while longer. As long as he could stay in this corner with a drink in his hand and simply people-watch.

“Room in that corner for one more?”

A new voice cut through all the noise, and he looked up from his cup to the source of the voice. There stood a young man, possibly his age, with spiky black hair and scars down one side of his face. He wore a costume that consisted of a ripped-up shirt that looked as though claw marks tore through them and fake blood across his body. The small friendly smile he was giving him and those eyes that felt as though they could see right through him almost instantly made his heart skip a bit. Nagato moved further to the side to make room for him.

“Be my guest.”

“Don’t mind if I do,” The stranger leaned against the wall next to him, a cigarette in one hand that was soon brought up to his lips, “Trying to escape the party yourself, huh?”

“It gets to be a bit much after a while. I’m going to assume it’s the same for you.”

“Yeah, it’s not like I’d call myself bad with people, it just feels good to duck away for a more intimate experience,” The stranger held out a hand to Nagato, “I’m Obito, by the way.”

Nagato took his hand in his and noted just how… cold it felt. But it was firm and strong.

“Nagato.”

“Good to me you, Nagato. Want a smoke?” Obito pulled out the pack of cigarettes and offered one to him.

“Oh, no thank you. I don’t smoke.” This was likely apparent by the way Nagato’s nose crinkled at the stench of the cigarette smoke.

Obito seemed to notice his discomfort and put out his cigarette and tossed it to the side, “Oh I got you. Sorry about that.”

Nagato’s heart skipped another beat at the way he smiled at him, considerately. He was thinking about his comfort.

“You didn’t have to stop, I expected it, with everyone here already drinking and smoking to their heart’s content.”

“It’s fine, I’m trying to smoke less anyway. Now a drink on the other hand…” Obito glanced over to the cooler where plenty of cold cans of beer were waiting, “Want me to grab you a beer? Or abstaining from alcohol too?”

“… A couple of drinks wouldn’t hurt, I suppose.” No, Nagato very rarely drank. Except for those few days of feeling utterly down on himself. But at this party… perhaps he could allow himself a bit of indulgence.

Obito nodded and retrieved two beer cans and handed one to him, clicking his own open and taking a sip.

“So, a vampire for Halloween, huh?” Obito mentioned after taking a sip, gesturing to his costume.

“My friends and I wanted to go for something supernatural this year,” Nagato began as he opened his own can and took a drink, “They joked I was so pale I’d make the perfect vampire, and here I am now dressed like this.” He lightly chuckled at the memory. He couldn’t say they were wrong… Pale as a corpse, others have commented before.

“With your red hair contrasting your pale skin, you’d make one striking vampire, especially in that outfit. They were spot on.” Obito smiled as he looked at his stereotypical vampire costume.

But striking…? Nagato would never have thought of himself as one that would be striking, but the compliment was a bit embarrassing as he felt his face heat up. Something a vampire surely would not have to deal with anymore, cold as stone as they were said to be. He turned his head a bit to the side to avoid eye contact, his hair hiding his face from view.

“Thank you, though whenever I picture a vampire in my head, they certainly don’t look like me.”

“You’re right, they wouldn’t look like you. You’d be even better.” Obito chuckled in a way that confirmed to Nagato exactly what he thought he was picking up on.

He was being flirted with. At a Halloween party, dressed up as a vampire… Oh no. It’s not as though this had never happened before, but he was far from prepared for it. It usually lasted only a few minutes before they realized he was not interested. But for once, Nagato didn’t want the other party to leave. Something about him was oddly… alluring.

“And what about you…? What are you dressed as?” Nagato forced himself to look back, but only to glance at his ripped-up costume. That, now that he looked closely, showed a bit more skin on his chest than he realized the first time around.

“The victim of a werewolf,” Obito placed his hand over the false wound on his chest where the claws marks tore through fabric down to the fake blood, “Last Halloween I had a nasty run-in with someone… dressed as a werewolf, that was my inspiration. Don’t worry, it was nothing serious,” He assured him when he noticed Nagato’s expression change, “Just someone I could never get along with who is a bit of an animal you could say. The werewolf theme was perfect for him.”

“One of my friends is dressed as a werewolf today,” Nagato noted out loud.

“Forgive me then if I have a bit of a bias after last Halloween.” Obito joked as he looked out into the crowd, seemingly searching for said werewolf friend.

“He’s more of a pup than a wolf, to be honest. You have nothing to worry about.” Nagato whispered to him with a soft laugh. Yahiko would surely pout if he heard him say that, but Yahiko wasn’t here right now, was he? And hearing the other man beside him give a small laugh in return at that made it worthwhile.

And that was where they stayed for the next hour, chatting away, grabbing beer after beer… far more of them than Nagato first thought he’d have. But he didn’t want to stop talking to Obito, the most enjoyable person at this party thus far. And someone interested in him… That was something he wasn’t so eager to pass up. Maybe he’d even have a number by the end of the night…

Except, light-weight that he was, he was already more than tipsy and bordering on drunk after too many cans of beer for his taste. It was making him laugh more like an idiot around Obito, and his cheeks were beginning to flush. Yet Obito seemed entirely unaffected. How unfair, likely a heavyweight where beer wouldn’t do a thing to him. Would he even remember to ask for his number by the end of the night? He didn’t know. All he knew was that he was starting to feel a little too light on his feet.

“Hey, are you feeling all right?” Obito asked him, leaning in a bit closer and placing a hand on his shoulder to help keep him steady.

“I’m… I’m fine. Just might need to stop drinking…” How did he manage to feel so sick from the feeling he was so unused to yet so happy at the same time? This is why he didn’t drink too often. And now, with Obito so close and looking concerned, he could only imagine how much more red was on his cheeks than before.

“You’re not looking too good… Here, you should take a step outside, and get some fresh air.” And Obito began to guide him to the back door of the home until they were outside and the cool fresh air hit Nagato’s face.

Nagato took a deep breath of that clean air away from the smells inside, enjoying the much calmer sensory experience that was more sensitive when feeling this way. Obito kept guiding him further from the house and more into the large yard, and the walk was appreciated and a great way to clear his head. They made it to the gazebo out in the backyard that held a little table and some benches circling it within. Obito sat him down on the bench and then took the seat next to him. The music from the party was distant, and the sound of crickets outside replaced it.

“This is much better, thank you, Obito…” Nagato mumbled as he leaned forward against the table. His head was already feeling a little clearer.

“No problem… Besides, I wanted the chance to spend some time alone with you, away from all the noise I mean. Now I can hear your voice more clearly without the voices of others attempting to drown you out.”

Nagato’s face felt so warm, for more reasons than just the alcohol. It was more intimate now, out here all alone… He didn’t even consider that. He almost went and buried his face in his arms on the table, but Obito’s hand reached out and gently took hold of his chin to turn him to face him. The smile on his face was only making his blush worse. He could not control it in this state.

“Do you mind this? Or may I take it a step further?” Obito asked as he ran a thumb across Nagato’s bottom lip.

If he was perhaps of sober mind, he would have thought this was just a bit too fast for him. Yet even then, how could he when he was looking into those dark eyes that seemed to beckon him forth? He could only nod in response. And when Obito began to lean forward, Nagato closed his eyes on instinct.

In the next moment, he felt lips press against his, all while his chin was being held in place by a gentle but firm hand. His heart was pounding, and he feared moving and ruining the moment. But soon enough, he was pressing his lips forward in return against those roughly textured lips. Oddly cold, his lips were when he expected them to light a fire within, but the cool air of October had to be the explanation.

He could not stop the little moan that escaped him as Obito kissed him more deeply, the taste of beer and something metallic on his tongue. He was disappointed when Obito pulled away from the kiss and was going to open his eyes when he heard Obito’s deep voice whisper right next to his ear.

“Keep them closed. I want to show you something even better…”

Nagato’s heart skipped a beat at the breathy sound of his voice as he began to trail kisses from his jaw down his neck. He wouldn’t be surprised if he could feel his heart pounding against his lips as he gave all these kisses around where his pulse could be felt. Even better, he says… This was probably all going way too fast if it was what he thought it was. He needed to tell him to stop, to wait…

Those thoughts all went completely blank when he felt the soft kisses turn into something sharp. It was no simple bite, it pieced the very skin, and his body began to feel as though it were floating. His eyes opened wide the moment he realized what was happening as he distantly heard the sound of swallowing. He wanted to struggle, fight him off, but yet his body felt numb. He felt as though he couldn’t move. And what started out as pain slowly started to melt into pleasure. His brain was in a daze, and he couldn’t move. Yet his mouth moved just fine as the quiet whines turned to soft, barely audible moans that perhaps only the one biting into his neck could hear.

He almost didn’t want the sensation to end. His heart was pounding, and he could feel his body grow heavier with each mouthful of blood swallowed, yet he’d never known it was possible to feel so close to another person in his life. If the one before him could even be called that…

It felt like an eternity before he was released and the feelings started to fade. He felt his body, no longer supported by the creature before him tilt to the side before falling to the ground below. His vision was blurry, and he felt as though he could lose consciousness at any moment. He forced himself to look up with what little energy he had left in his body.

When he looked up, there he could see the one known as Obito smiling down at him far too kindly for the situation, and fangs that he swore were not there prior showing in that smile. His own blood dripped from them, as he licked the rest away. Nagato couldn’t even scream for help, he couldn’t do a thing but stare up at him and try to force himself to stay awake. Maybe it would’ve been better if he had, for the next words out of his mouth sent a chill down his spine.

“One of the best I’ve ever had… Now you… you’d I’d like to keep.”

And before the dread could fully set in, he heard a pair of familiar voices off in the distance.

“Nagato!”

“Nagato, are you out here?”

Yahiko, Konan…

Relief and terror spread through him at the idea of what this thing could do to his friends even if he so desperately wanted them to come and end this nightmare.

“A shame, it seems that will have to wait,” Obito spoke as he turned in the opposite direction of those two voices, “Oh, and I meant it, by the way. You’d make a wonderfully beautiful creature of the night yourself.”

And with that, he was gone the next moment Nagato blinked. And Yahiko and Konan were at his side, helping him up as carefully as possible. Their voices sounded distant, too distant for him to make out any more of their words. Exhaustion took over in the arms of his friends as he finally felt safe, and his consciousness drifted away. But even sleep could not forever stop the truth of what his life had turned into.

He would come back for him, and that thought would not leave Nagato for many nights to come.

Notes:

I'd been wanting to write something for Obito and Nagato for Halloween for a while now and I finally got to it! It's a bit less terribly Halloween themed but vampires are too classical and fun for me to have not wanted to write! I might make another part for this, but for now, this is a one-shot!

Happy Halloween to those of you who celebrate and make sure to treat yourself even just a bit!
