Chapter Text
New morning, same routine, Mysta wakes up at 6:30 am, takes a shower, wears his uniform, and buys his lunch at the convenience store.
"Hey Mysta, Good Morning," the cashier says as the boy walks inside the store.
"Good morning, Oliver; is there still a lunch box set available today?" Mysta answered.
"Of course, I save one for my favorite customer," Oliver said, ruffling the younger one's hair.
"Hey, stop doing that, I spend time styling it," Mysta stated as he fix his hair back to normal.
"Can't help myself," the brunette chuckled as he handed Mysta the lunch box.
"Here, take it; it's already 7:15; if you don't run, you'll be late for school," he continued.
"Oh shoot, here's my cash; see you later, Oliver," Mysta says as he pushes the money into Oliver's palm and runs for his life.
Mysta is running late to school as usual, but he is not alone; following after him is his friend Alban.
Alban cried out, "You're late again?!"
"Don't scream at me, you're always late too!" Mysta yelled back as he quickened his pace.
The both of them just ran silently until they arrived at the school gates.
"The two of you again!" said their PE teacher when he spotted Mysta and Alban.
"We're not late, the bell hasn't rung yet," Alban remarked as he dragged Mysta inside.
When Uki saw the two boys, he said, "You guys are filthy."
"What?" Alban said, irritated.
"You're drenched with sweat," Fulgur said, pointing at them.
"Of course, we'll be sweating, we ran for over 10 minutes," Alban replied.
"Wipe your sweat, Alban," Sonny murmured, pulling a handkerchief from his pocket and then giving it to his friend.
Mysta ignored his friends' quarrels and headed directly to his seat. He is still out of breath from running, and his heartbeat can be heard through his ears.
"Would you want some water, Mysta? I'll buy you one if you want" Yugo inquired.
"No worries, I have one with me, but thank you for offering," Mysta said, smiling.
"All well, if you say so," Yugo answered, returning to his seat
"You know, you two should start getting up earlier so you're not fleeing for your lives every morning," Uki said.
"I'm trying," Alban complains, "but I keep falling asleep."
"I barely have time to sleep, and you want me to wake up earlier than my schedule, you know, I'll die," Mysta explained.
"Are you still playing games all night?" Fulgur inquired.
"I thought you'd quit playing games?" Sonny remarked.
"I'm not playing, I'm doing really important things," Mysta explained, pulling out his notepad to go over his notes. His friends only stared at him and said nothing. Mysta lived alone in his house, and he had no one to help him get ready in the morning, unlike his friends who lived with their families. They always offer Mysta the opportunity to live with them in order to save money and time, but he always declines.
"Oh, by the way, guys, are you available today?" Yugo said, to which the others nodded.
"I don't have anything to do later," Uki explained.
"Unless there's an assignment," Alban said.
"As if you do it right away, but sure, I'm also free all day," Fulgur replied.
"I also don't have practice today," Sonny explained.
"How about you, Mysta? Are you available later? You weren't with us yesterday," Yugo inquired. The latter pulled out his phone and stated.
"I don't have anything planned for today; are we going anywhere later?"
As their instructor entered the room, Yugo said, "I'll tell you guys later."
The group is currently sitting in the cafeteria, waiting for Sonny and Yugo to order something. Only Mysta has a bento box since the items served at school are too expensive for him. "So, what are we going to do later?" Alban said when the two returned with their food.
"Oh right! Have you heard about the trending challenge on Twier?" Yugo said.
"Which one?" Uki said, "there are literally hundreds of challenges on Twitter."
"The Night Challenge one," Yugo said.
"The demon summoning thing?" Mysta remarked.
"Yeah, yeah that one," Yugo exclaimed.
"What are you trying to say?" Fulgur inquired, perplexed.
"Let's try it! Isn't it cool?" Yugo said immediately.
"Yeah! Let's do it!" shouted Alban.
"Isn't that dangerous?" Sonny inquired.
"No, it isn't; I haven't heard of anyone getting injured for doing this," Yugo responded.
"Just because there's no news about it doesn't mean it's safe," Uki explained.
"Oh, come on, Uki! Don't be such a killjoy, and you too, Sonny!" shouted Alban.
"There's no harm in giving it a go, guys," Yugo added.
"How about you, Mysta? Will you join them later?" Fulgur said to the boy next to him.
"If you guys are going, I'm going too," Mysta responded simply.
Uki and Sonny merely signed.
"Fine, I'll go," Uki replied, shaking his head, "but if anything horrible happens to you guys, it's not my fault."
"How about you, Sonny?" Yugo inquired.
"I'll go with you," he said.
"Eyyyy Let's go!" Yugo and Alban exclaimed.
Later that day, Mysta and his friends waited in their classroom to carry out their plan. Yugo placed the candles in his bag on the table in front of him.
"You actually planned this, huh?" Fulgur inquired.
"Of course, it's been on my mind for a few days," Yugo boasted.
"Are we going to start now?" Sonny inquired.
"No, no, let's wait till the sun goes down," Yugo replied.
"This is going to be a lot of fun," Alban added.
It's almost 7 p.m., but 6 students are still on campus. They are currently standing around the teacher's table with candles and paper with unfamiliar scribbling on it.
"Are you guys ready?" Yugo inquired.
"Wait! Is this all we're going to need?" Uki remarked, pointing to the table.
"Yeah, I double-checked it before I asked you guys," Yugo said as he rearranged the materials on the table.
"Isn't it too simple?" Fulgur questioned.
"I thought summoning required a lot of sacrifices?" Mysta added.
"They mentioned on the internet that it's only a weak spirit, so it doesn't need much," Alban explained.
"I don't think this will work," Sonny mumbles.
"Let's get started!" shouted Alban and Yugo.
Each of them chooses a candle, holds it in their hands, closes their eyes, and begins chanting.....
"Spirits in the dark
Servants of the night
Answer this call of mine
Let my desires
Come true
Reveal Yourself to me"
They repeat this 3 times but when they are about to finish suddenly,
"YOU BRATS! IT'S LATE! WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!"
They were so startled that they forgot to say the final line, except for one person. After Mysta finished uttering the line, the candle's flame vanished into thin air, but no one notice it because of the teacher.
"Sorry, Teach, but don't worry, we're going to leave," Yugo and Alban remarked as they stuffed the paper into their bag.
They each take their bags and begin running away; as they exit the school grounds, they instantly begin laughing.
"That frightens me more than the night challenge," Yugo admitted.
"I assumed he'd chase us down and report us to the guidance," Sonny added.
"We just become exhausted, and nothing happens in our plan," Uki remarked.
"But isn't it fun?" Yugo asked.
"The running part was exciting, but the summoning was creepy," Fulgur claimed.
"I'm relieved I wasn't the only one who felt that," Mysta said.
"It seems that someone was watching us when we were performing the chant; I didn't see it, but I felt it," Uki said.
Mysta was terrified but said nothing; he kept his cool and spoke. "Should we go home now? we have classes tomorrow"
"Yeah, that's a good idea," Alban agreed.
"Eager to get home now?" Sonny asked,
"Are you afraid of what Uki said?" Yugo asks, smirking beside Alban.
"No, I'm not," Alban says nervously.
They went to a convenience store before they went home.
"Welcome," says the store clerk.
Mysta immediately went to the store's corner to see if there were any remaining ready-to-eat meals, but there were only expensive meals. The brunette pulls out his wallet to see if he has enough money, but the god of luck appears to have deserted him. His wallet contains only a few bills that will barely get him through until his next paycheck.
"Mysta, are you finished? We'll drop you off at your house," Fulgur inquired.
Mysta quickly hides his wallet and grabs a piece of melon bread. "I'm done; I'll just pay for this," he said as he approached the cashier.
"Oh are you Mysta?" the cashier man inquired of Mysta, who had placed the bread on the counter.
"Yes? How do you know my name?" he wondered.
"Here," the latter said, pulling a paper bag from beneath the counter and handing it to Mysta. "Mr. Evans asked me to give this to you, and he also said you don't have the right to reject it because it will be wasted," the cashier cheerfully replied.
The brunette accepts the paper bag because he knows Oliver will scold him the next day if he refuses it. "Thank you," Mysta replied after accepting and paying for the bread.
"Don't worry, I'm just doing my job," the man said, smiling.
"Let's go, Mysta, it's already dark," Uki said.
"Thank you again," Mysta said as he dashed toward his friend's location.
"See you tomorrow, Mysta," the five said as they parted ways with the brunette. Mysta waved to them with a smile. "Good night, see you tomorrow."
After his friends were gone, he went into his one-room apartment, sat in the middle, and unwrapped the food bag Oliver had given him. Mysta was eating when he felt a gust of wind blow behind him; he immediately looked around but saw nothing.
"What was that?" he mumbles as he rises from his seat, walks to the door, checks that it is locked, and does the same with the window. He returned to his seat after double-checking that it was locked. "Perhaps it's just my imagination," he said, continuing to eat.
Mysta ignores the feeling that someone is observing him because he has already secured every possible entrance to his house. Mysta signed and walked towards the small bathroom, where he stripped naked and stood under the shower. He was washing his hair when he felt a hand touch his back, and when he turned around, the shampoo bubbles on his hair got into his eyes. "Ouch," he whimpered.
"Where's the water?" Mysta taps everything in front of him till the shower opens. "What the heck was that?!" Mysta yelled once he washed the shampoo from his eyes. "I'm sure someone touched my back," he added as he quickly washed his body.
