Notes:

This is the last of my Halloween Haikyuu series. I wanted to write something longer but my brain is just fried. Maybe I’ll comeback to this idea at some point and add to it

Work Text:

Things don’t always go as planned, the universe has unexpected ways of throwing things for a loop. Atsumu always expected Osamu to become the wizard of the family. It was uncommon for twins to both become wizards. Atsumu never cared about magic, it was always just something that was around him. When he and Osamu turned 16, he became the wizard of the family and Osamu went on to become the best baker in the city.

Atsumu went on to study at the University of Magic with Osamu’s now fiancé Akaashi Keiji. After they graduated Akaashi went on to work as the health minister for the royal family as an esteemed herbalist. Atsumu was known as the Solar Wizard, his golden blonde hair and honey eyes making him widely known. His magic was a mix of it all, he liked to dabble and learn new things. When Akaashi was brought on by the Sakusa Royal Family, he recommended Atsumu for their tower of magic. He spent his days doing research and helping the king when they had any issues. His most recent accomplishment was making an elixir to help farmers when the rainy season was too strong.

The first time Sakusa met Prince, now king, Sakusa Kiyoomi he thought his heart was going to explode. He had never met anyone so beautiful and couldn’t help dreaming about the other man’s obsidian eyes. They met one on one from time to time and atsumu always walked away worried he said something stupid. Atsumu often advised Sakusa on official matters and did his best to relieve the stress placed on the king.

Tonight he sat in his office in the Wizards Tower, wishing he could crash the royal banquet being held to find Sakusa a marriage partner. Nobles from all over the country flocked to the capital in hopes Sakusa would at least grant their sons or daughters a dance, giving them a small chance to win him over. Looking down at the carriages pulling up to the castle entrance, Atsumu pushed himself away from his desk.

“I should do somethin productive” standing up with his chest puffed out, he walked over to his bookshelf. Running his finger along the grain, he searched for a particular spell book his old professor had given him. Flipping through it he found a spell he had been wanting to play with for a while.

Teleportation ” was scrawled across the top of the page in beautiful cursive writing. Atsumu had dabbled in teleportation while he was at the University of Magic, but never long distances. He had succeeded in teleporting to the room next to him, tonight his goal was teleporting to his own bedroom.

Reading out the teleportation spell, his golden hair floated delicately around him. His dark red and black robes flowing as the wind surrounded him. Taking a deep breath in, he shouted the last of the incantation. What he did not expect was the hear gasps as he reached his destination. Slowly fluttering his eyes open, he realized quickly he was in the center of a sea of people. Noticing familiar gray and ocean blue eyes, he watched Osamu and Akaashi with their jaws open.

“Shit” he whispered, realizing the two of them were attending the royal banquet. That could only mean he was in the center of the dance floor of the royal ball. Guards ran to surround him, their swords and spears aimed at his neck and chest. “Well hello”

“Guards stand down” a familiar voice boomed.

Turning to watch the crowd part for the king, Atsumu’s heart stopped. Sakusa was dressed in all white, a lightweight cape flowing behind him as he made his way over to atsumu. Stepping into the blonde's personal space, he whispered “what are you doing?”

“I’m sorry yer majesty, it was an accident” he bowed.

“Make up an emergency” Sakusa whispered, leaning closer to atsumu.

“What?” He stuttered.

“I want to get the hell out of here and you’re going to be my excuse” he smirked before quickly collecting his composure. “Please continue to enjoy the party everyone” he smiled, linking arms with atsumu.

The guards followed close behind Atsumu and Sakusa, still nervous about the blonde intruder. “There’s nothing to be concerned about, Atsumu came to inform me about a small emergency so I’ll be stepping away with him” he smiled, placing his hand on the small of the blonde's back.

Leading Atsumu away from the loud rush of the crowd, he began to relax as it became just the two of them. “Thank heavens you showed up when you did”

“Bad party?” Atsumu smirked.

“Terrible, everyone wants me to dance with them. I don’t want to touch that many people” he scoffed.

“I’m sorry they were bothering ya” he smiled softly. “But anytime you need to escape just let me know, I’ll come get ya”

“Thank you” looking into honey eyes, sakusa wanted to pull him closer to his chest. The blonde had caught his eye the first time they met, making Sakusa’s heart jump for the first time in his life. Atsumu continued to wiggle his way into Sakusa’s heart the more they interacted. As Atsumu helped Sakusa with his problem, the king wanted to make up excuses to see him more. “Do you want to come have a drink with me?”

Feeling his heart flutter, Atsumu tried to calmly say “y-yeah that s-sounds great”

Seeing the tips of Atsumu’s ears go red made Sakusa smile, he wanted to draw more reactions out of the wizard. Leading Atsumu to the small living area attached to his bedroom, he made his way over to the bar. “Wine or something else?”

Sakusas drawing room was bigger than Atsumu’s bedroom, correction Atsumu knew Sakusa’s closet was probably bigger than his room. Although he was incredibly grateful to live within the palace walls and for free. The walls were painted a light sage green on the bottom, while the upper half were covered in a cream wallpaper with golden flowers on it. Paintings with different scenic views of their nation hung on the walls. And atsumu was terrified to think about how much the chandelier and decorative ceramics around the room cost.

A large engraved door across the room led to Sakusas bedroom. Peeking through the open door he could see dark green walls with floral paintings and a large canopy bed in the center of the room. Sakusas footsteps echoed across the dark wooden floors towards the small bar in the drawing room. Beautiful crystal glasses of all kinds sat on glass shelves and alcohol atsumu could only dream of tasting rested on top.

Nervously looking around the room, Atsumu took a seat on one of the couches. “I’ll have anything yer having”

“Wine then” Sakusa smiled, bringing over two glasses and a bottle of wine. Passing Atsumu a glass, he poured wine into each of theirs before setting it on the table. “So why did you teleport into the party? If you wanted to come I would have put your name on the list”

“Ah” Atsumu laughed. “I wasn’t trying to teleport to the party. I tried to teleport back to my room and didn’t make it that far” he explained.

“Oh, is teleporting hard?” Sakusa asked curiously, leaning his side into the back of the couch. Not being gifted with magic himself, he was always curious about what it was like to use magic.

“It’s harder the bigger the item. Teleporting yerself is hard I can’t do a second person yet” he explained. “Do ya like being king?” He asked curiously, it had always been a question that Atsumu wanted to ask Sakusa.

Chuckling into his wine glass, Sakusa looked over the rim at a blushing Atsumu. “How is he so cute?” He thought to himself. “I’ve never really thought about it”

Sakusa’s chuckle sent shivers down Atsumu’s spine and he wanted to make the curly haired man do it again. Slowly inching closer, he let their legs brush against one another. “I know ya didn’t have a choice, obviously ya were born into this, but did ya ever wish ya had a different life?”

Sighing as he thought about the question, he enjoyed feeling the heat radiating off of Atsumu through his pants. Wiggling his leg a little closer to that warmth, he answered “I have thought about it before, especially when I was younger. I tried to run away when I was little. I wasn’t going to go forever, I just wanted to know what it was like to live outside the palace for once. Without someone constantly watching you or planning your life… like tonight I know I’ll get in trouble tomorrow with someone for leaving early” playing with the wine glass, he looked down with a sadness in his eyes that made Atsumu angry.

He wasn’t sure why he was so angry, or at who, all he knew was he wanted to make sure that Sakusa was always smiling. “Why didn’t ya want to be at the party? Besides the dancing”

“Ah” Sakusa sighed, sipping his wine. “They want me to get married, and soon” taking a larger sip of wine, he melted in Atsumu’s golden eyes. “It’s all anyone wants to talk about anymore”

“Ya don’t want ta get married? Or is there someone ya like?” He smirked, both teasing sakusa and wanting to know more. When he looked up he saw sakusa nervously playing with his fingers and glass. “Ya do have someone ya like” he gasped.

“Maybe I do… is that bad?” He mumbled, pouring them each more wine.

“Nah! Ya should tell them. Then if they feel the same way about ya then ya don’t have to go through all this. Or at least not alone” he encouraged, though part of him hated that sakusa could potentially be in love with someone else.

“Maybe…” reaching out to play with the ends of Atsumu’s hair, he smirked seeing the blonde freeze. “Sunshine” he whispered.

“What’s that Omi?” Atsumu moved to look at Sakusa better.  His cheeks were flushed pink from drinking at the party and now with atsumu. The affectionate name coming out of Sakusa’s mouth made Atsumu’s heart flutter.

The nickname made his heart sing, he wished Atsumu would say it again. “Do they call you the solar wizard because of your hair? Or did you make your hair blonde to match that?”

Now it was time for Atsumu’s laugh to send shivers down Sakusa’s spine. Eyelashes fluttering at the magical sound that was Atsumu’s laugh, Sakusa continued to play with the ends of his hair. Letting his fingertips brush against the soft skin on the back of his neck as he listened.

“No, my hair has always been blonde and my twin Osamu’s is gray. People used to tell us we were like the moon and the sun. When I went into the University of Magic one of my professors helped me pick a focus and that’s what I was drawn to. Since it isn’t a big program or profession he let me continue to dabble with any area of magic I like. That’s why I can help ya so much” he explained.

“I like it… you’re also warm like sunshine” Sakusa whispered again.

“Are ya cold Omi?” He asked, reaching out to touch a hesitant hand to Sakusa’s cheek.

Leaning into Atsumu’s hand to let him know it was ok to touch him, Sakusa nodded. “I get cold easily”

“Next time ya get cold, come find me and I’ll warm ya up” atsumu smiled crookedly.

“Sounds like I’ll be looking for you a lot… what about now?”

“Are ya cold now?” Atsumu asked, raising his brows in concern.

Quietly nodding his head, he pouted softly at Atsumu. Opening his arms for the king, Atsumu waved slightly for Sakusa to come closer. Curling into Atsumu’s side, Sakusa relaxed for the first time in a while when Atsumu’s warm arms wrapped around him. Feeling safe, he rested his head on the others shoulder. Softly rubbing Sakusa’s shoulder, Atsumu leaned his cheek against the others head.

“Hey Omi?” Atsumu asked after a long peaceful silence.

“Yes, Atsumu” he answered, turning to look up at him better.

“What’s the person ya have feelings for like?”

“He’s pretty,” Sakusa started, surprising Atsumu. The blonde didn’t know the kings preferences and would never judge anyone, since he liked both men and women, it caught him off guard though. “He’s warm like golden hour and as pretty as a sunset, no more than that!” Sakusa exclaimed. “And he always knows how to make me smile… when I’m having a bad day I hope I can run into him, even for just a minute… even just a minute with him recharges me for a few days”

“He sounds really great” Atsumu sighed, moving his hand to play with the small curls at the base of Sakusa’s neck.

“Yeah… I’m really glad I’m with him now” Sakusa muttered under his breath.

“Omi” Atsumu gasped, pulling away to look at him. “Am I the one ya like?”

“Huh? No, I like sunshine” Sakusa smiled softly, nuzzling his face in Atsumu’s shoulder.

“Who is sunshine?” Atsumu smirked, leaning closer to Sakusa.

“Atsumu, the prettiest person I’ve ever met,” Sakusa laughed, letting the large amount of alcohol he had been drinking take over.

Cupping Sakusa’s face, Atsumu leaned closer to him so their noses were touching. “Ya mean me?” He smirked.

“Yeah… you” closing the short distance between them, Sakusa kissed him softly.

Leaning into the kiss, Atsumu put a firm hand on the back of Sakusa’s neck to keep him close. Scared that Sakusa might slip between his fingers, Atsumu wrapped his other arm around his waist to pull him closer. Readjusting himself so he was in the blondes lap, Sakusa rolled his hips down into Atsumu’s groin. A soft whimper transferred between their lips as Sakusa moaned.

Pulling back to catch his breath, Atsumu cupped Sakusa’s face. “Omi”

“More” he complained, attempting to surge forward to reach Atsumu’s lips.

Stopping the very drunk Sakusa, Atsumu laughed. “Tomorrow Omi, fer now let’s get ya some water and to bed”

“Are you leaving?” He pouted, holding onto Atsumu tight as the blonde started to get up.

“Not if ya don’t want me too” he smiled, rubbing his thumb along Sakusa’s cheek.

“Don’t go, I want to be with you more”

Picking Sakusa up with ease, Atsumu laced his fingers together under his crushes ass. Taking large steps across the room, he set Sakusa down gently on the edge of the bed. A small smile crept across his face when Sakusa laced their fingers together as he attempted to kick off his boots. Once he had done that Atsumu gently helped him with the rest. Tugging on the end of Atsumu’s coat, Sakusa looked up at him with calm eyes. “You too”

“Alright Omi” stripping down to his underwear, he noticed how the king continued to keep a gentle touch on him at all times. “ Maybe Omi is afraid I’ll disappear too” “I’m not going anywhere” he whispered, leaning forward to kiss Sakusa again.

Pushing the curly haired man back onto the pillows, Atsumu pulled the blankets up around them after Sakusa moved over. “But what if this is all a dream and you’re gone when I wake up?” He asked, holding onto Atsumu tight.

Wrapping an arm around Sakusa, he pressed a soft kiss to the king's forehead. “I’ll be right here when ya wake up”

“What if I don’t want to sleep yet?” He asked, snuggling closer.

“Then we can talk some more. Anything ya wanna know?” He smiled, pulling Sakusa impossibly close.

“Why can’t we keep going?” He pouted, kissing Atsumu’s neck.

“Cause I want ya to be sober when we fool around” he smiled.

“I want to play with you… no I want to make you mine” he whispered against Atsumu’s neck as he started to leave a purple mark.

“Ya want to make me yers Omi?” He teased. “I’ll remind ya of that in the morning. I’m surprised ya drank this much”

“Didn’t want to talk so I kept busy by drinking” he explained, leaving a trail of kisses up Atsumu’s neck and jawline.

“I’ll make sure ya don’t have to deal with that again” he promised. “Next time maybe I’ll be there to protect ya”

“Will you go as my date?” He asked softly.

“If ya want” Atsumu smiled, pressing another soft kiss to Sakusa’s head. Rubbing the curly haired mans back, Atsumu tangled their legs together.

“I want you to be my queen” he whispered, starting to fall asleep in Atsumu’s arms.

“Yer bed is so big Omi, nice and comfy too” he smiled, snuggling deeper into the plush covers.

“Too big… I hate it… it’s lonely… that’s why there are lots of pillows” he explained with soft breaths in between.

“Do ya surround yerself with them?” He asked, sad that Sakusa had felt so alone for so long.

“Yeah… then it’s not scary” he confessed, holding atsumu tight.

“I guess I’ll just have to sleep here from now on” he teased.

“Perfect” Sakusa sighed with a smile on his lips as he drifted off to sleep.

Staying awake a little longer, Atsumu pulled back just enough to admire sakusas sleeping face. All his muscles relaxed, Atsumu could see the others' features so much better. His long lashes were angelic, his lips pouting as his breath evened out, the freckles that dotted above his eyebrow were adorable and Atsumu couldn’t help himself as he pressed his lips against them.

“Good night Omi” he whispered, holding the king close.

Sakusa woke up to the soft light flickering through the curtains of his room. The delicate smell of citrus filling his senses as he snuggled into the sheets. Feeling toned muscles against him, he fluttered his eyes open to reveal Atsumu sleeping next to him. Almost jumping out of bed at the sight of the blonde wizard, all of the memories from the night before flooded his mind. Overwhelmed and nervous about what Atsumu might say, until the blonde wizard hugged him tight and whispered “mornin Omi” in a deep voice. Atsumu’s deep voice made sakusas heart do a double take.

God his morning voice is sexy” he thought. “Good morning… you’re still here” pointing out the fact atsumu hadn’t left sent a wave of anxiety through him, he began to worry the blonde would get up and leave.

“I told ya I wasn’t goin anywhere” he smiled, leaning forward to kiss sakusa gently. “Is this still ok?”

“Yes” he whispered back, giving Atsumu a brief kiss. “Did… did I make any mistakes last night?”

“No, not that I can think of,” he smirked. “Unless confessing yer feelings was a mistake”

Glaring at Atsumu with a softness in his eyes, he crashed their lips together again. “Never a mistake”

Hugging Sakusa close to him, he forced the young king to sleep with his head on Atsumu’s chest. “Ya never get ta sleep in but ya should Omi. Yer getting bags under yer eyes and that’s not good”

“I am not” Sakusa growled back, but didn’t argue. Snuggling closer to Atsumu, he kissed the others chest gently. “Are they noticeable?”

“Only a little. They’ll go away after ya rest with me”

“Is that also a part of your magic?” Sakusa teased as he closed his eyes.

“Yes it is” rubbing sakusas shoulders and back, atsumu relaxed with him.

Listening to the blonde's steady breathing and rhythmic heartbeat helped keep him calm as he said “Atsumu” tangling their legs together, he asked “what would happen if I started courting you?”

Eyes wide, Atsumu did his best to stay calm, but sakusa could hear his heartbeat begin to pick up. “Court? Like… eventually marry?” He smiled.

“Yeah… you would technically become Queen, if things worked out” Sakusa quietly explained.

“Why wouldn’t they work out Omi? Ya think I’m letting ya get away?” He smirked, hugging Sakusa tight. Flipping over to cover the curly haired man, he kissed him once more. “I want ya to be mine and mine alone. I’m not gonna lose ya”

“Be my sunshine” Sakusa whispered against Atsumu’s lips.

“I’d love to Omi”
