“Psttt.”
“Psttt…”
Nene was about to drift off to sleep when something, or more specifically someone keeps whispering and knocking through her window and she doesn’t even need to open her eyes and stand up to see who it could possibly be.
Yugi, Amane. Her dearest life long best friend. She had known him for as long as she could remember. They technically moved here one day. They’ve met and so on became inseparable since. This best friend of hers was a space lover-boy that is only one of the many things she likes about him, of course not like like. He wasn’t her type, no thank you. Nene dreamed of a handsome charming blond prince carrying her off her feet and ride on his shiny white horse once she's older. She’s definitely getting her prince.
“Yashiro~” he calls for her with his mouth making an o-shaped outside the window, pog starting to appear on the hard glass.
Immediately, Nene stood up and opened the window, she took his arm and pulled him inside.
Amane fell on his face as Nene closes the window. “What are you doing, Amane?? Its freezing outside!”
Amane sat on her bed and said “I was calling for you!” with a tampered forced- frown written on his face, acting upset. “This late?? It's past bedtime!” and is now looking at him curiously on what his intention could possibly be that involves her this late.
“Well, you can’t really see stars in the day now can you, yashiro?”
-
“You better return that jacket later! Mama’s gonna scold me if she finds out we opened our christmas present before christmas eve!”
The two walk towards their special spot where they mostly stargaze, not so far from home but it's a place where only she and the twins knew. That’s what made that spot so special for nene. They had come here a lot before, rarely now that its mostly snowing that her mom doesn’t allow her to go far.
“It was your idea to open it! I’m not even aware you got something for me~”
“To be clear, mama got it for you, and second of all, it’s not my fault you forgot to put on another layer before knocking on my window. If you froze, I’m to blame, so not taking any risks!”
Amane laughs “Well, I wasn't aware it was gonna be this cold! Besides I couldn't go back in there again even after knowing, tsukasa’s covering up for me.” he said, almost too proud of himself. "At least we match!"
Tsukasa would never do favors for amane unless he gives something good in exchange.
“What did you offer?” she looks into his eyes to find any answer without speaking. He turned away from her sight and said “ a box of.. Donuts… all for him”
Nene laughs “how generous of you.” amane turned back and look at her “it was a fair deal.”
Nene smiled at him “so, why do you wanna stargaze tonight? Something coming up?”
Amane beamed at the question, nene knows exactly how to lighten him up, more than a star could. “Well you see, I’ve read somewhere that a bunch of shooting stars will show up tonight. I wanna see them with you.”
Oh so that was the plan, nene thought. She smiled more at the realization, maybe one day, once she’s older, should actually marry someone like amane.
“Let’s wish together, on the shooting stars! I heard it always comes true if you wish from the heart.”
Where did he heard any of this, she wonders.
As she thinks of that, amane decides to look at the starry sky.
"Yashiro..!" He yelled and Nene got startled at Amane's sudden enthusiasm as he held her hand and ran. "What's going on..??" She asked as she giggled, she is no doubt also getting excited for what's to come.
"The shooting stars..! The shooting stars..!" Amane shouted as they continued to run up. Nene turned to her right and was fascinated by the sight of shooting stars slowly appearing one by one on the dark night. Supported by billions of stars shining with burning passion, scattered throughout the sky, each shines differently from the other, unique from one another. For every night Nene looks at the sky, at the stars, the moon. There's no question to why Amane loves them so much that he wishes to go there and explore the endless sky outside of the motherly earth. Was that his wish? Is it what he was gonna wish for? Yashiro turned to look at him.
He looks so lively everytime he talks about the stars and moon. Nene wishes to see more of it. More of his grinning smile. Smile reaching his eyes, curving eyes, a sense of happiness.
If nene was honest, she really didn't know what to wish for, she doesn't certainly depend on wishing off her happily ever after on a star. A part of her mostly doesn't believe in it, but when amane looks at them like that. His eyes sparkles, amber eyes burning bright the same way a star could up in the sky. A part of her believes it's okay, it's okay with him. She would wish a bunch for amane. just to keep continuing to see that smile so contagious. She wished that one day,she would see him flew off in a space rocket he dreamed and explore the universe, wearing that same smile as he'd realize, he's here, finally, finally free to explore each planet one at a time, name every single burning star he sees at the corner of his eyes and take his very first step on the moon.
She wanted nothing more than that, his hapiness. She wishes.
Amane stopped running but kept their hands glued together. "Did you saw them, yashiro?" He beamed as she nodded in response "they're really pretty, amane."
Amane smiled countless times tonight.
"I'm happy you thought so too..!" Still holding her hand as he took his turn to look deeply into the night sky.
The silence followed, all she could hear was the sound of Amane's panting breath from all the running they'd done earlier.
She decides to follow his gaze, to look where she hopes him to be at. She could've sworn that the moment she looked away from him is when he turned his glance towards her.
They have a lot, yet to experience in life, memories yet to make. But this, right now. Them, under the starry night looking at the endless, together. She's sure to hold dear until the end.
"What did you wish for?" She asked as her eyes continued to wander. "You aren't supposed to tell anyone your wish, silly!" He giggled quite a bit as he informed. " well..! No one's gonna know but us!"
"Well then, go ahead and tell yours, not telling mine."
"That's unfair!"
"Well, I don't wanna risk my wish getting unfulfilled..!"
"Is it THAT important that you won't tell??" She asked and hoped he'll spill. But she didn't expect to hear him being serious when he answered "yes."
When he looked away from her, there was an obvious shade of pink on the top of his ears. She could picture his embarrassment and tease him back but with how serious he answered her question, she couldn't bring herself to make fun of it. He looks so cute in times like this. She couldn't help but smile even further as she let out small giggles. "What?" He asked, the blush spreading on his face. "Nothing! You just look so cute, amane."
That made the final blow on Amane as he tried to mumble things, trying to tease her back and failing. And they stood there in silence. Nene stared at his amber eyes as he took sight of the city below. He looked like he wanted to say something but was considering whether to say it or not. Then he faced her, looking so determined. "If." He cut his words. Now nene gazes more attentively, waiting for his next words. "If it comes true, you'll be the first person to know" nene didn't know how to answer and just stared at him.
"You'll have to tell me yours too! Once it got fulfilled. That's a promise!"
She gave him a reassuring smile as she said "Promise."
Under the shooting stars, a promise was made.
