Chapter Text
September 12th 20XX, 1:30 AM
It was a cold and dark night. It was storming outside.
Upon entering his apartment, Rodrigue tossed his helmet, armor and guns aside forgetting how dirty they were; blood and water were now everywhere on the floor.
The young man sighed, not feeling angry; there was no need to get angry over a couple of stains.
He proceeded to go to his room to grab a mop and didn’t even bother turning on the lights, they would only make his life harder and harder, spoiling his location and intentions.
He went back to the living room, cleaning the mess that he had left on the floor, his armor and the double guns that he wielded.
Once glistening clean, the armor was taken to Rodrigue’s room by the boy himself, he put it in the closet and laid down on his bed.
Rodrigue was still holding the customized guns: a lightning struck down, illuminating the room for a brief second and allowing the man to gaze at his late father’s modified weapons.
It was fitting that Rodrigue, as soon as his life went downhill, had them painted black; a color that reminded him of himself, a corrupted and twisted color that could’ve been any of the many colors, but for him, it was too late. The young man was holding the gun wielded by his left hand close to his chest, while gazing at the ceiling with sorrowful eyes.
Suddenly, his watch beeped. That was a special type of watch lended to him by his agency.
It could tell the physical and emotional status of every pokemon in his party, the beep was for emotional problems, the ding was for physical ones.
His decidueye, the pokemon that has been with him since his birth, was feeling incredibly down.
The young man sent out his beloved partner pokemon, a strong and well-trained shiny decidueye, that looked at him with a concerned expression. Rodrigue, noticing his concern, gave his buddy a warm smile:
“You’re still awake huh?” The young man asked.
“Deci…” The pokemon came closer to the man putting a wing on his shoulder.
“It’s alright, it’s nothing that I haven’t done before… just another Thursday night.” The trainer said as he reminisces on all the jobs he had done, the many sacrifices he had made and the lives that he had taken, criminal lives, but still lives.
“Dueyeee…” The Owl pokemon was looking at the floor, he didn’t know what to do to console his best friend, filling him with sadness.
“Hey, cheer up buddy, this is only one of my low moments, I’m going to feel better in no time.” Rodrigue putting his hand up for an high five attempting to make his pokemon feel better.
Decidueye’s frown disappears and he shows off by jumping and high-fiving his trainer with his claw.
“Ok big man, no need to flex so hard, I know you’re a beast.” The trainer said with a smirk
“Deduuuuu!” Decidueye folded his wings and looked at him with serious eyes, attempting to act cool.
“You think you’re that guy huh? I’m going for a snack, but since you are a strong and extremely cool pokemon, I guess you don’t want to eat.” The young man said with sarcasm.
The image of the cool and collected decidueye shatters at the mere mention of food, his love and passion.
“DUAAAA!!” the decidueye cooed
“Fine, Fine, Your majesty may have the sunflower seeds he wishes for. Happy?”
The pokemon beamed at his trainer and the two hurried to the kitchen.
Rodrigue opened up his fridge and took some instant noodles, he wasn’t good at cooking. Once he poured hot water in the noodle cup, he grabbed some seeds for decidueye to eat and put them in a bowl.
Decidueye was very hungry, it didn’t take long for him to finish all the seeds, his master was still waiting for the noodles to cool off when he was finished.
“That has to be your new record.” said Rodrigue
Decidueye puffed his chest and let out a proud coo in response making his trainer smile.
The moment of peace was ruined by a phone ringing, Rodrigue’s business phone.
“Are you serious?! I JUST CAME BACK FROM A FUCKING MISSION!”
Rodrigue sighs; it’s the only thing he can do, he can’t afford to slack off especially if he’s working for a federation that focuses on keeping the world secure.
Rodrigue picks up:
“Agent Yami speaking.”
“Greetings Yami, I hope you’ve been well.” a composed and elegant voice greets the young man
“Been well my ASS. Why are you calling me in the middle on the night Markus? I’ve just returned from the NEO warehouse bloodbath, fulfilling my mission quota for the week.”
“I am aware of that, Yami, I wouldn’t be calling you if it wasn’t important. As you know, one of our most affiliated partners is the reborn league, and champion Ame is asking us for help. It’s about a new organization that’s suddenly sprung in action: Team Meteor. From the data we collected, they want to use pokemon to cause havoc in the city with the help of a certain machine. Said machine has the capacity of amplifying a Pokemon’s power many times fold.” Markus replied
“And you called me for this? What are you a newbie? You should already know that we literally have a whole section of the agency right there in re-“
“They have been all terminated.” Markus did all he could to not sound blue.
“Excuse me, what?”
“You have heard me correctly, the agents were all slaughtered, which is why we have offered to help without informing you first. All of the agents there were not equipped optimally, most of them were rookies as you know and we sent them to reborn because it was the safest place to send them at the time.”
Rodrigue remained silent.
“I believe that you understand the gravity of the situation now Yami. You are departing for Reborn tomorrow, we need someone strong and efficient in the city right now, and you are the perfect candidate. Make sure to teleport to the HQ tomorrow morning, we’ll have you escorted to reborn in no time.”
“Whatever, I have nothing to lose anyway.” Was the only thing Rodrigue had to say before hanging up.
Well… someday this was gonna happen, as an S tier agent, it was destiny… HIS destiny.
“Old man… please, give me your strength.” The agent said with annoyance in his voice, he has been through shit like this, that was nothing.
He looked at his really confused partner at the other side of the table:
“Well, we have another job.”
“De.” Decidueye cooed seriously.
“I know, I don’t like it either, but we have to go; a lot of agents were killed.”
“Deci.” The decidueye nods and returns to his pokeball to get some sleep.
Rodrigue then logged on his agency pc, a high tech monitor capable of storing, giving a personal space, and food to all of his pokemon and used the microphone to communicate the news to his friends:
“Hey everyone, I just wanted you all to know that we’ll be going to Reborn tomorrow, a very important mission. Make sure you get a good night’s sleep and eat lots, we’ll kick ass like we’ve always done!”
Rodrigue sees from the habitat cameras that his pokemon are cheering as if he was their commander, having a speech to motivate them before a long war.
The young man’s skills with his guns, hand to hand combat and pokemon training were on point, but he felt like the war against team meteor was going to be a long and boresome one:
“I will figure this out, I won’t let those rookies just die like cattle!” The young man thought, determined to complete this mission and defeating the meteors, while he laid down in bed.
“If tomorrow Markus doesn’t have all the details and info ready at hand, I’m going to commit homicide for the 1000th time this year.” Rodrigue said in his head before closing his eyes and falling in the arms of Morpheus.
