Work Text:

Awashima Seri was a coldhearted woman, at least if you asked Kusanagi Izumo about her. What most people and definitely not Yata Misaki didn't see was his small, fond smile, everytime he talked about her.
At this point in time they had danced around and flirted with each other for years but even if he had been overly friendly with her from the moment they first met, he never really made a move on her. He had too much respect to do more than to always flirt.
However that never kept him from staring if her very tight and short uniform got out of place and to only halfheartedly apologise if he was the reason for it.

Normally Kusanagi was the type to patiently listen to others (maybe as part of his job or due to Tataras influence on him) but everytime they met in private, Seri-chan was the one listening and he talked a lot about his past and it was actually great to do so. Even if not all those memories were positive.

He was highly attracted to this seemingly cold woman that was so much more emotional and warm than she let on on the outside. And at first he had just flirted with her to tease her and maybe get a one-night-stand or two out of it but this changed rather quickly. He sincerely enjoyed her company and everytime they met, be it professional or casually he felt so empty when she was gone. Like a part of him had just walked away. Everytime it got worse and Kusanagi knew rather early, that he wanted to date her for real and that he was truely in love with her. But she never seemed to see all of his feelings for her. No matter how hard he tried to show her.

And now it just killed him on the inside to infiltrate a party thrown by Jungle, posing as a married couple. But at least they succeeded until they let their guard down and were surprised by Fushimi.
Kusanagi was able to protect Seri. At least that worked.
But after that it was just like before and he was glad that almost every King at this point either was in a lot of trouble or causing it and he had to focus his mind on that.

After the Dresden Slates were destroyed all of them had to adjust to this new life without powers but before they could really settle into it, they had to deal one last time with the last fragment of the Slates. As soon as Kusanagi knew that they were all trapped in their dreams, he hoped that they all would remember it. Just so Seri-chan would know of his dream of them being an actual couple with dating and all.

When Seri showed up the next day at Homra she seemed as cold as ever but this time he actually tried to carefully make his move. "I had a really strange dream, Seri-chan.", he started, as she finished her drink, the only thing he would never be able to love about her. "Is that so?", she asked rather cold with a raised eyebrow while putting on her jacket.
His shoulders dropped a little. So she did not remember.

Maybe it has just been his own hyperrealistic dream. "So cold, Seri-chan.", he mumbled.
As she bent down to grab her purse she sent him a smile and leaned over the counter top of the bar, grabbing him by the tie. "I would appreciate it, if you wouldn't say stuff like that." His heart was pounding like crazy, about to break. "We had the same dream, Izumo.", she added, giving him a shy kiss on the cheek. She waved him goodbye, adding a "I need to go for now but I will call you later." And with that she was gone, not leaving him empty.

Bandou entered the Bar a minute later, greeting the staring into space Kusanagi "She really is a coldhearted woman...", he commented to his lovestruck idiot of a friend. "Yeah. The coldhearted woman of mine.", the blond confirmed with a smile, looking forward to the evening, ignoring the "Fucking finally."
