Bubbles and Princess are.. frenemies. Bubbles has no issue with Princess, but Princess despises Bubbles.
She hates how she's so kind to everyone. Anyone will walk all over people like that. Anyone.
But why did Princess care so much? She hates the girl, so why would she be concerned about it? It's probably just this "Morals and Principles" junk that the Baby Blue puff drones on and on about.
Her voice.
Her voice made Princess feel sick to her stomach. Bubbles was always so friendly towards everyone. Always smiling at people, and never being negative. It was sickening. She was always so soft spoken, yet so energetic and bubbly, and she would talk, talk, talk. It was the reason as to why Princess couldn't stand being around her. But Bubbles had no problem being around her; She actually liked spending time with her, and whenever she did, her voice would fill up Princess' head. Princess hated it. She couldn't stand it at all.
It was.. so grating, so high-pitched, but so.. smooth, almost like velvet. Princess can give her credit about that. Her voice was fairly smooth, and it was a voice she could listen to for hours, but since it was coming from the wretched Puff, she despised it. It made her feel more weird than she does when she's physically near the Puff.
But despite how annoying both her and her voice is, Princess was surprised at how nice she is to people. She doesn't do any bad things, either. It does make a bit of sense since she's a hero, but it still catches her off guard from time to time. She's sweet, and really nice to everyone. It's one of the reasons why everyone likes Bubbles so much, and sometimes Princess was envy of it. They see her as someone who truly cares about them, but she's a pushover.
Princess hates pushovers.
But it's worse when it comes to the Puff.
For some reason, she hated the way Bubbles would get bullied without knowing it. It made her angry. She was angry at the Puff for not realizing it, she was angry at the kids for making fun of her, but most importantly..
she was angry at herself for caring about it.
Princess didn't like caring about Bubbles' status in the school. She saved everyone's lives when she was five, so they should obviously respect her. Right?
Wrong.
Almost nobody respects the Puff, and it makes Princess upset.
They even try to plan pranks on her. Of course, they try planning pranks on all three Puffs, but they target the baby blue one the most.
Once, Princess had her father get three kids expelled from school because they were planning on pranking Bubbles. She doesn't know why she did it, but she felt completed knowing that Bubbles wasn't going to suffer anymore. Bubbles never knew about any of it, but Princess didn't care. She may hate seeing Bubbles be all giddy and cheerful, but she rather see that than see her upset and humiliated.
So, why did Princess try so hard to humiliate Bubbles herself? For the same reason that every other bully tries. The Puff was too good, too kind, too sweet, too... perfect. It was driving Princess insane. It pissed her off that Bubbles could be so perfect that everyone else seemed so messed up compared to her. How did the girl manage to stay so happy and positive? Was this why everyone was so envious and angry at the Puff so much? Because she always looked.. so, so much better than them, no matter what?
Whenever Princess thinks about it, it makes her want to throw up.
How beautiful the girl's blonde hair is. Her beautiful brown skin that resembled cocoa powder. Her smile that can make anyone melt. Just.. everything about the puff. Even though they're polar opposites, and Princess can hardly stand the sight of her, Bubbles would always try to help her whenever possible. She'd tell her what she thinks about the most random things, or doodle little hearts or stars onto her homework, even if those things usually just annoy the hell out of Princess.
It was like Bubbles was trying to make her upset, and if she was, she was doing it well.
But she wasn't. She wasn't trying to make Princess upset, or taunting her, or trying to make her jealous.
Bubbles liked Princess.
And she wanted Princes to like her back.
And eventually, Princess started to come around.
It started off slow, though. It went from getting used to the sound of her voice, to admiring her features instead of hating them. Princess still felt sick to her stomach around her, though.
It was like her stomach was eating itself from the inside.
She's felt like that for years around Bubbles. That was why she was so hesitant to have a relationship with Bubbles that was anything remotely positive. Princess was the opposite of positive. She's greedy, and selfish. How could a superhero like the blue Puff ever want to even talk to her?
Princess tried not to be mean to Bubbles. She started talking to her more, and even helped her out more than once. It was nice.. at first.
Somehow, Bubbles had wormed her way into her heart so deeply and slowly. She never realized until recently that Bubbles had been there all along. She only noticed now when she saw her in class or during lunchtime. The feeling that she always felt before became stronger now. Like a flood of emotions hitting her like a tidal wave. She was shocked, overwhelmed, and confused.
That's how it was. Every time their eyes met and their fingers touched, butterflies would erupt in her chest. It was uncomfortable and weird and painful. It made her want to run away screaming because it hurt, and all she felt was disgust and hatred towards the girl.
But it wasn't disgust or hatred.
It was a crush.
Princess has a crush on Bubbles.
A real, fullblown crush. She didn't want to admit it to herself, didn't want to accept it. But she couldn't help it.
The feelings grew stronger, and stronger, and stronger each passing day, until one day, Princess decided that she's had enough.
She's getting over this crush, one way or another.
She won't let herself love a Puff, or anyone. Not when it hurts like this.
Princess was walking through the hallways, visibly distraught. As she turns the corner, she spots the Puff at her locker, grabbing a few books as she talks to a random child that Princess didn't care about. Princess swallows the invisible lump in her throat, and begins walking up behind her.
"I need to talk to you." Princess blurts out, causing Bubbles to turn around.
"Oh! Hi, Morbucks!" Bubbles smiles and waves, and it causes the butterflies to burst from their prison in her stomach. The butterflies continue to flutter around and explode, causing tears to form in Princess' eyes.
She hates that she's falling for her, so hard.
Bubbly notices her crying and furrows her eyebrows in concern.
"Are you okay?" She asks cautiously, taking small, nervous steps, moving closer to her.
"Yeah.. I'm fine," Princess replies, wiping away a stray tear. Bubbles doesn't look satisfied at first, but eventually sighs and nods.
"Okay, then. You.. needed to talk to me?"
"Uh.. yes."
"Is everything okay? Did something happen?"
"No," Princess shakes her head lightly, and takes a shaky breath. Her face becomes more red, and her hands are shaking harder.
"Then... what is it?"
"Do you like girls?"
The Puff's eyes widen.
"Do I what?" She asks, visibly confused. Princess clears her throat, scratching the back of her neck.
"I, uh.. Nevermind. Listen, I.." She starts again, looking down. "You're one of the.. least ugliest girls in school.. And.. I.. I don't think you, y'know.. deserve it."
Bubbles furrows her brows, but decides to wait until Princess says another word. After a minute passes by, she continues. "I.. just think that it's kinda unfair how you're.. so attractive, and it makes me kind of angry, because now.. you're able to be compared to me, and nobody is ever pretty enough to be compared to me!" Princess exclaims, causing Bubbles to go wide-eyed.
"Morbucks, are you.. calling me cute?" She asks quietly.
"What? N-No!" Princess looks down, staring at the floor.
"You're calling me cute." Bubbles states, a smile slowly growing on her face. Princess slowly looks up, blushing heavily.
"Okay, so.. maybe I think you're cute. It's.. not a big deal. Just tell me that you hate my guts so I can hate you, and we can be enemies again." Princess requests, crossing her arms.
"Hm.. Well, I don't hate your guts." Bubbles giggles quietly.
"Not even a tiny bit?"
"Well.. no." She shrugs. "I actually really like you! Do you like me? Is that why you told me that you think I'm cute?!" Bubbles questions, smiling happily. Princess clears her throat again.
"..maybe." She mumbles under her breath. Bubbles blushes heavily, looking away from her.
"I, uh.. didn't expect you to actually say that you did." Bubbles giggles nervously.
"Whatever." Princess says, trying to revert her face back into it's natural mean state. Bubbles looks up at her.
"So.. do we like each other, now..?" She asks with a nervous grin.
"I guess. You're really.. not ugly, sooo.." Princess trails off, causing Bubbles to avert her gaze. Princess didn't want to admit it, but Bubbles looked really cute when she got embarrassed like that. It made her heart melt. Bubbles giggles softly, covering her mouth.
"So are you." She teases. Princess frowns slightly.
"You're not allowed to call me not ugly."
"Why not?"
"Cause it's corny when you say it."
"Oh." Bubbles frowns, but her smile grows back less than three seconds later. "Can I get a different nickname, though..? 'Not ugly' seems to be too on the nose."
"Sure. I'll call you.. Lovebug." Princess smiles, and Bubbles giggles even louder.
"Lovebug~" She repeats excitedly, and Princess chuckles, blushing heavily.
"I'm.. happy you like the name."
"You're cute when you blush, Morbucks." Bubbles says playfully. This time, Princess doesn't stop the smile that spreads across her face.
"Whatever.." Princess mumbles. She looks at their hands, and she clears her throat once again. She lets go of Bubbles' hand, and she takes one of her rings off, putting it on the hand of the Puff.
"There."
"Why did you do that?" Bubbles asks, staring at the fancy ring.
"It means we're officially together." Morbucks smiles.
"Together..?" The Puff asks, looking at the ring on her finger.
"Together."
Bubbles smiles happily, looking up at her.
"It's beautiful. Thank you."
"No problem." Morbucks nods, slowly leaning forward. She slowly lifts up the other's hand, gently kissing her ring finger. She leans up to give her new girlfriend a peck on the cheek, and quickly pulls away.
"I.. I'd better go now.." Princess whispers, looking at her feet.
"Of course." Bubbles agrees, looking sad now.
"I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"I'll see you tomorrow, Princess."
"Bye, Lovebug."
Princess walks off, trying not to smile.
She did it. She got over her crush.
And she got a girlfriend out of it.
Who knew she'd be with the one she thought she hated? Not her, that's for sure.
But she doesn't mind it.
Because she doesn't mind Bubbles. She actually likes her. She loves her. She cares about her.
She's her Lovebug, and she'll always protect her.
