Swear It

Summary:

It's a beautiful night in a beautiful city, and Shuu wants Mika to promise never to leave his side.

Work Text:

Whenever they ended up in an unfamiliar city, Mika always begged for them to get a hotel room high up with a balcony. And this was why. As soon as he had slid open the door, he walked to the rail and looked out across the lights that were tightly interwoven along the streets, networking neighborhoods into the distance to show the fully illuminated city in the night. The bright lights and colors below reminded him of fireworks, and he liked to stand there and take it all in.

“It’s beautiful out,” the voice made him turn to look as Shuu walked outside to join him, finishing removing his leather glove from his fingertips with his teeth. The sight made Mika’s stomach flutter rapidly, and he smiled back at him.

Shuu paused before reaching Mika to look at him, highlighted by the cityscape, his eyes shining like two brightly colored crystals in the starlight. It was breathtaking. Mika’s skin glowed in the moonlight like porcelain, and his hair fluttered lightly in the breeze. It made Shuu’s heart race a little.

But he hid it well, finally walking to stand beside him, placing his long, delicate hands on the railing. Mika turned his head to look at him, then nodded, looking back down at the city. “Yer right, Oshi-San. I like how all the lights’re different colors but it all looks so…”

“Uniform?”

“Bwuh? I dunno, Oshi-San I…isn’t uniform clothes?”

Shuu chuckled lightly, nodding. “It can be, yes.” Mika waited for Shuu to explain what he had meant, but he did not. Instead, he cast his gaze outward again, and so Mika followed suit. The weather was ideal for spending a little time outdoors, even a number of stories up where it was a little windier. After a few minutes of quiet, Shuu turned slightly, hip against the balcony, reaching his hand up into Mika’s hair. “You performed beautifully tonight.”

Mika could purr from the praise, leaning into Shuu’s hand, eyes closing as he smiled. “I did my best for ya, Oshi-San.”

“You are very good, I am so glad to have you by my side.” Shuu’s hand moved down to cup Mika’s face, thumb stroking cheek. “And I never want that to change.”

“‘M not goin ‘ anywhere, not ever.” Came the orphan’s reply, nearly breathed into the night air and carried away by it. Night after night on stage as Valkyrie had solidified their artistic union years ago now, and the natural bleed between that and their more intimate union felt like it had started then, too. Neither of them really knew when to place that.

“Swear it,” Shuu murmured, his other hand drawing Mika’s body closer. Leaning into him, he pressed his lips to Mika’s before the younger man could reply, drinking in his answer, storing it inside himself, like tucking it away to keep it safe. When they broke apart, Mika nuzzled their noses together, and Shuu smiled softly before pulling back, reaching into the pocket of his jacket to produce a tiny box covered in crushed black velvet.

Mika looked at it, then to Shuu. “‘s ‘at? For me?”

“Of course it’s for you.” The taller of them laughed softly, gently prying the box open. Inside lay a ring, the band golden, with parts around a lapis-colored gem shaped like clock gears. Mika stared at it for what felt like hours, then looked up at Shuu, who smiled nervously. “I hope you’ll forgive my not getting on one knee, but these trousers are so delicate,” he carefully took the ring from the padding. “But as I said, swear it. Swear you’ll always be here. Marry me, Kagehira.”

It was not a question, but Mika did not mind, because it was crystal clear and easy for him to understand and respond to. His eyes filled quickly with tears, and he nodded in the affirmative before managing to squeak out. “O-okay, Oshi-San.”

Shuu sighed with relief and took Mika’s hand, gently sliding the ring onto his finger. He didn’t give Mika the chance to stare at his hand like he would have though, quickly cupping his face in both of his hands to kiss him warmly, firmly, tasting his tears where they had rolled down from his eyes. Mika’s arms slowly snaked around Shuu, feeling heavy and fuzzy and like he was dreaming! Shuu broke the kiss only to pepper Mika’s lips with several smaller ones, catching his breath. “Ah, je t’aime, mon Kagehira.”

“Je t’aime too, Oshi-San.” Mika sighed, pressing his face into Shuu’s neck. “Nyaaaah I can’t believe it! Ya snuck this on me!”

“Of course I did, I couldn’t very well warn you in advance.” Shuu pressed one more kiss to his forehead. “Now come, let’s drink something expensive from the mini-fridge to celebrate!” He smirked as he slid his arm around his fiance, leading him inside. “I think I saw some Pepsi in there.”
