Chapter Text

When Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki made it back home they were surprised to be met with an empty house. Their son, Takemichi, was no where to be seen around their house.

You couldn't have imagined how worried Mrs. Hanagaki was when her son had not come back later during the day. They had specifically planned their flights so that they would be able to have some time to spend with their son on their arrival day instead of sleeping.

Once the clock stuck twelve, Takemichi was not home. Mrs. Hanagaki sat on the couch with her best and comfiest pair of silk pajamas on. Her leg bounced on the floor repeatedly with worry. Her husband laid in bed asleep. "He's still not home?" Mr. Hanagaki's rough voice spoke. Turns out, he was not asleep as she had thought.

"No." She spoke as she took the glass of water her husband handed her.

Mr. Hanagaki sighed,"Where can that boy be?" He sat on the couch next to her.

The couple waited in silence along with Mrs. Hanagaki's repetitive foot tapping. Finally she spoke breaking the silence, "Maybe we should call the cops. What if he's kidnapped or is currently being sold in a sex trafficking ring?" Her voice spoke with worry and paranoia.

"Don't think thoughts like that dear." Me. Hanagaki mumbled as he hugged her for a moment.

The couple continued to wait. Seconds turned into minutes and an hour turned into two, then it turned into three. They heard a creak coming for the back door. They stiffened. Then the kitchen's light turned on illuminating the kitchen and part of the dining room. Was their son finally home?

They heard a groan and something being placed down on a kitchen counter or table. "I really need to find that key." A voice spoke. Mrs
Hanagaki was so relived when she heard her son's voice.

They heard the refrigerator door open and then a bottle cap clicking open. The teen walked in to the living room to see his parents. Takemichi's eyes were wide and so were his parents.

Takemichi was speechless,"W-What are you two doing here?" He asked after some time; not believing his eyes.

Takemichi's mother stood up before going over to hug him,"We came home. We asked for some vacation days and they gave them to us, so here we are!" She spoked as she held Takemichi close. She cupped her son's face to get a better look at him. He had some scratches and bruises on his face. "What happened to your face?!" She questioned as she pressed on a light blue bruise. Takemichi winced in painal and she quickly removed her finger.

Mr. Hanagaki quickly walked over to the two. "Why are you so hurt?" He asked as he inspected Takemichi's face.

"It's nothing dad. It's just that I'm really clumsy." Takemichi lied to his parents. It wasn't like they were home enough to know him well.

Mr. Hanagaki narrowed his eyes."Young man what are you wearing?" Takemichi's father spoke as he looked at him up and down. Takemichi was wearing his Toman uniform.

"It's.. uh", Hanagaki Takemichi could not think of an excuse at that very moment.

Mrs. Hanagaki read the words on his unform in gold "Are you part of a cult?!" She quickly assumed.

Takemichi panicked,"I'm not in cult mom!" He spoke loudly and frantically.

"Then explain your clothes. You cannot tell us that that's p today's latest fashion. We're not dumb." Mr. Hanagaki's rough voice spoke. Takemichi visibly froze. Now Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki knew Takemichi was involved in something he's not proud to mention to them.

They watched as their son hesitated, "I-I'm... I'm in a gang." Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki's face went pale.

"What do you mean your in a gang?!" Her voice spoke laced with worry.

Takemichi took a deep breath before he spoke, "It's nothing bad I swear. The gang is made up of good people. I swear!"

"Good people?" Mr. Hanagaki scuffed, "Gang's beat up people Takemichi. They're not good people." He tried to reason.

"You should focus on your grades instead!" Mrs. Hanagaki suggested.

Takemichi sighed, "Mom, you know my grades are perfect. You have access to them."

Mrs. Hanagaki had an expression of defeat before her expression changed to something that resembled hope. "But look at your face! You're all beat up! Maybe you should leave the gang. You couldn't have made it that far if you look like your treated as one of their lackies." She reasoned.

Takemichi scuffed, "Mom I made my name known in the gangster world. I have my own division in a well known gang."

Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki looked like they were given the worst news of their lives. "Why do you mean your a well known gangster?!" Mr. Hanagaki asked slight angered but he was keeping his emotions in check.

"I mean why I said dad." Takemichi mumbled out.

Mr. Hanagaki groaned, "Takemichi you need to cut off your relationship with those gangster friends of yours." He spoke seriously after calming himself for a moment.

"What?" Takemichi quietly mumbled in disbelief.0

Takemichi's father he sighed, "Nobody is going to want to hire an ex-gangster. How are you going to make a living if you have gang connections?" Mr. Hanagaki reasoned with soft eyes. His voice was no longer rough, it was now in a gentle tone.

"Takemichi, we just want what's best for you." His mother cooed.

"No you don't!" He shouted. Takemichi hadn't realized what he had done by the heat of the moment. "If you wanted what was best for me you wouldn't have abandoned me here." He spoke with his voice quiet while his eyes filled with tears.

His Mother and Father's expressions changed. "Takemichi.. you know," his mother swallowed hard, "you know that we didn't want to move you to another country. We don't think you'll adapt well. You'll need to learn a new language and-"

"But visiting once a year! Really?!" Takemichi cried as he cut off his mother.

"So you decided to join gangs to get attention from us?" Mr. Hanagaki spoke with the gentleness in his voice gone.

Takemichi froze, "That's not why I joined!"

"Then why did you!" Takemichi's father had shouted startling his mother and him.

Takemichi paused if he said he was sorta forced, then he would get in even more misunderstandings. "Cause the leader was my friend. He asked me to join and I agreed." Takemichi lied.

"Then you can easily just leave if he's your friend." Mr. Hanagaki reasoned.

Takemichi was running out of reasons, "We're close dad. If I leave it's going to be awkward between us."

His father scoffed,"A little sacrifice won't hurt you. We sacrifice watching you grow up in order for you to grow up with more than enough you'll need."

Mrs. Hanging spoke, "Takemichi, we just want what's best for you." She spoke kindly as she cupped his tear stained face.

"We just want you to be a successful Kemi." Mr. Hanagaki spoke softly using that nickname that made Takemichi weak.

Takemichi sniffled. "They're like my family though." Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki froze at their son's words; it was clear to them that Takemichi really cared for them. It was clear to them now that their relationship was deeper than they had originally thought.

Mrs. Hanagaki let out a breath she didn't know she was holding, "If they don't want to be your friends after you leave then they aren't friends worth having."

Takemichi nodded his head. Mr. and Mrs. Hanagaki smiled slightly; they were happy that their son had agreed to cut off connections with them.

"Let's go to bed now, it's past one in the morning." Takemichi's father suggested to his family.

"Alright." Takemichi mumbled
