“Why have you been avoiding me?” Wilson asked walking into the procedure room that House was hiding in. House quickly turned to face him hiding something behind his back.
“Hi honey, how’s your day been?” He asked, Wilson gave him a look and House sighed, “I’m not avoiding you.”
“You saw me earlier and locked yourself in a janitors closet,” Wilson replied.
“Ok yes I’ve been avoiding you,” House admitted, “you haven’t done anything wrong I’ve just been planning a surprise.”
“A surprise?” Wilson questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“Yeah, the others found out that today was our one year anniversary and asked what I had gotten you.”
“Did you say we were going for a nice meal later?” Wilson asked.
“Yes but then Cameron said I should do something nice for you, Foreman and Chase agreed,” House told him, “and you know they’re on to something when they all agree on the same thing,” Wilson stood there looking at House, an amused expression on his face, House continued, “I asked them what they suggested but none of their ideas seemed like something I’d do, well except for Chase mentioning something that involved whipped cream.”
“That idea doesn’t sound terrible,” Wilson replied.
“I know, but that didn’t seem enough, I asked Cuddy too but she suggested I pay for our meal tonight but we both know that wasn’t going to happen,” House said and Wilson rolled his eyes, “but then it hit me and I knew what I’d do,” House stepped to the side and waved Wilson over. The other man stepped forward and looked at the images laying on the table.
“These are images of a brain,” Wilson stated.
“Well observed,” House replied, “they’re my brain, I got Foreman to do some imaging tests on me, as you can see the limbic cortext is incredibly active, the precuneus as well, both of which have been linked to the happiness response.”
“Ok,” Wilson said, unsure of where this conversation was going.
“Well, these images show that at that exact moment I was happy,” House explained, “I was thinking about you,” Wilson looked at his boyfriend, a smile on his face, “I was trying to come up with a way to display them to you, like a card or something, but then you caught me,” Wilson looked down at the images, before looking back at the other man. House could see some tears in Wilson’s eyes.
“You’re such a dork,” Wilson chuckled, pulling House in for a kiss. The two men broke apart but kept their foreheads together, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” House replied.
“So do you want to see what I got you?” Wilson asked, reaching into his pocket, House nodded. He pulled out a small ornament of an anatomically correct heart, House took it and looked it over, he caught sight of an engraving on the bottom.
‘My heart is and always will be yours.’ It read.
“Now who’s the dork?” House chuckled, “thank you for this, it will have pride of place on my desk.”
“And I think I’m going to frame your brain and hang it up in my office,” Wilson replied, “it’s ironic really, I fill your brain and you fill my heart.”
“Yeah, I think we’ve gone a bit too far with the sappy stuff now,” House grumbled.
“Agreed,” Wilson said but the two men were smiling at each other.
“We should head off soon or we’ll miss our dinner reservations,” They took each other’s hands as they left the room and walked down the corridor, Wilson occasionally glancing at the images in his hand and House fiddling with the ornament in his pocket.
