Work Text:
“Come on Uncle Roddy,” Lyra called over her shoulder as she pushed open the large door of Lestrange Manor, a small shopping bag in her hands, “Hurry up!”
“I’m hurrying,” Rodolphus yelled back at the eight year old, his arms full of shopping bags as he followed her into the manor. He had spent the majority of the day walking around Diagon Alley with the youngest Malfoy, buying practically anything her little hands touched. Part of him worried about his wife’s reaction, but it was also kind of her fault because she didn’t give him any rules before the pair had left the Manor earlier in the day. Bellatrix had basically kicked them out for being “too annoying” and had just suggested they go walk around Diagon Alley while she finished her novel. She probably didn’t expect them to come back with anything, but then again, she probably should have specified!
Rodolphus quickly followed behind Lyra, dragging himself into the dining room before flinging the many bags he was carrying onto the large table.
“Back already, my sweet?”
Both niece and uncle turned their heads at the new voice. Bellatrix had entered the dining room with a smile on her face as she approached Lyra, cupping her face and landing a quick kiss on the top of her head. As she turned to address Rodolphus, she noticed the many bags now adorning her dining room table. “Oh Rod, really?”
“You told me to entertain our niece while you finished your little story,” Rodolphus explained before gesturing to all the stuff he purchased, “I entertained.”
Bellatrix let out a sign, closing her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose, “I didn’t mean buy out all of Diagon Alley!” Gaining a bit of her patience back, she turned to address the little blonde, who was now rummaging through everything, “Lyra, what did you and Uncle Roddy get today?”
“Lots of things,” Lyra exclaimed with a big smile on her face, as she stood on a chair, pulling out handfuls of different types of make-up and accessories from various bags. She grabbed the bag closest to her and dumped it out on the table, throwing the bag behind her without a care in the world. Searching through the scattered items, she picked up a small colorful package and handed it to her uncle, “This is yours, Uncle Roddy.”
“What’s that,” Bellatrix asked, as she watched the exchange between the two.
Rodolphus quickly took the package and ripped into it with his teeth, before he pulled out a long gooey looking slug and held it out, dangling it in his wife’s face. “Jelly Slugs,” he said in a drawn out voice, as he continued to wave it in her face before throwing it up and catching it in his mouth as it fell.
“You’re disgusting,” Bellatrix criticized as she watched him slurp down a few more of the gummy sweets.
“Look Aunt Bella,” Lyra shouted, gaining the older woman’s attention. Bella turned her head to see her niece holding up an assortment of colorful hair clips, “I got these pretty clips to put in your hair! And then I can do your makeup with all these glitters I got!”
Bellatrix grimaced at the small girl. She truly did love her niece, but there was no way in hell she was going to let anyone, let alone a child, play with her long curly hair. Just picturing her beautiful curls transforming into an unmanageable, frizzy mess was just too much. She fumbled a bit, trying to find some excuse out of this little game of Lyra’s, “Thank you for thinking of me, sweet girl, but I can’t play makeover with you. I have a-”
“I’ll play,” Rodolphus interrupted, his mouth still full with jelly slugs.
“You’ll let her give you a makeover,” Bellatrix questioned, whipping her head around to look at her husband.
He gave her a shrug as he swallowed, tossing the empty confections package on the table, “Why not? She bought some cool stuff and, honestly, I’m kinda looking for something new to do with my hair.” He emphasized his argument by flipping his shoulder length brunette hair back as he sauntered past his very confused wife to take a seat beside the little blonde girl at the dining table.
Lyra was more than excited to get her uncle as a blank canvas for her fun make-over game. She quickly emptied the rest of the shopping bags out on the table. Taking a moment to assess the situation, she raked her eyes over all the cute accessories spread all over he table. She then glanced over to her uncle, who was now giving her an encouraging smile as he patiently waited for her to make her selection. She looked back at the table for a moment longer before her eyes landed on a pair of pom-pom hair ties that felt absolutely perfect for the situation. She quickly swept them off the table, moved a chair closer to and behind the one her uncle was sitting in, and climbed up to stand on it to give her the perfect angle to work on the burly man’s hair. Carefully sectioning his hair down the middle, like she had learned from her mother, she set to work on pulling the top half of his hair up into small pigtails and securing them in place with the fuzzy blue and pink pom-poms.
She took a moment to inspect her work, finding that she did get the pigtails even and that they did look rather good in his hair. There were a few hairs in the front of his face that were too short to stay in the pigtails and they just refused to stay down when she tried to smooth his hair back. Glancing back at the table, she noticed the colorful hair clips she had shown to her aunt earlier. That was just what she needed!
With Rod now with his hair out of his face with the pigtails, and a line of rainbow colored hair clips on either side of his head, Lyra thought he was quite ready for the glitter eye shadow. She jumped down off her chair and hurried over to the rhinestone covered eyeshadow palette, before walking back over to stand in front of her uncle. As soon as she flipped open the cover, she hesitated, almost waiting for her uncle to make some sort of fuss about having makeup put on him.
Noticing her uncertainty, Rod reached out and pointed to the purple shade in the palette, “I like this one the best.” Lyra gave him a beaming smile before eagerly coating both of his eyes in glittery eyeshadow. A few moments later, the little Malfoy stepped back from her uncle, feeling quite satisfied with the work she had done.
“You look beautiful, Roddy,” Bella quipped from her seat on the other side of the table. She was so interested in seeing how this all played out, but she still wanted to be far enough away that little Lyra wouldn’t suggest doing the same to her afterwards.
Rodolphus lunged forward and snatched the open eye shadow palette out of the little girl’s hands, using the mirror on the inside of the cover to see exactly how he looked. “I’ve always been beautiful. But this,” he began as he checked himself out in the mirror, “this is art!”
“I’m not finished yet,” Lyra yelled over her shoulder as she turned to pick up a packet of little sticker gem earrings. She quickly turned around and handed them over to her uncle, “Open these, please!” Rodolphus was more than happy to take the packet from her, tearing it open and handing her the sheet of stickers that the little blonde began to place fake diamond gems on both his earlobes, as well as two pink star gems on both of his cheeks, just below his eyes.
“I think you should get your ears pierced for real, Roddy! You look kind of hot,” Bella quipped with a smirk, learning forward on the table.
Rod waited for his niece to finish clipping a daisy chain choker around his neck before turning to look at her, “Ly, did we get needles at one of the shops? Aunt Bella says you can pierce my ears for real.”
“That's not what I said,” Bella growled, while Lyra just shook her head, turning back to the table for her final selection. She pushes a few things out of the way, finally finding the item that she had been searching for.
“There,” she exclaimed, carefully placing a pair of tiny black flame sunglasses on his face, ‘Now you’re done!”
Rod stood up in an instant and rushed over to a mirror that was hanging on the wall behind where his wife was sitting. Here, he could fully take in the make-over he had been given. He looked over his reflection, taking in the image of a strong man with pink and blue pom-pom pigtails, rows of clips on the sides of his face, purple glittery eyeshadow, small fake gemstones on his ears and cheeks, a daisy chain choker, and tiny flame sunglasses on. He had to admit, he looked oddly cute but also kind of intimidating. He really had to give it to the tiny Malfoy because she really did know how to put together a look.
“Okay, why do you genuinely look good,” he heard his wife comment from behind him.
He turned around, tilting his head down to look at her over the sunglasses, “It’s only natural to be jealous of me right now.”
“I’m not jealous,” Bella sneered, looking at him through narrowed eyes.
“You might want to tell your face that,” he sassed, pushing the sunglasses up before walking away from her and back over to their niece.
Lyra looked very excited that her very manly uncle seemed to enjoy his makeover and even more excited that he seemed to be in a more playful mood than he normally was. “Thank you for letting me play makeover with you, Uncle Roddy,” the little girl beamed up at him politely as he came to stop in front of her.
“No problem, princess,” Rod smiled at her, “Thank you for making me look so pretty! Maybe I should come visit you every morning so you can style me for the day.”
Lyra’s eyes lit up, “Yes! And maybe Aunt Bella won’t be busy then and I can make her over too!”
As soon as the comment left the little girl’s mouth, Rod turned to see his wife’s reaction, a teasing smirk on his face. However, instead of seeing her eyes wide with shock, all he saw was the back of her head as she hurried out of the room.
Rod continued to smirk as he kneeled down and whispered in Lyra’s ear, “I think Aunt Bella values her hair even more than your daddy.” His comment caused her to let out an infectious giggle as they both watched Bella retreat further and further into the manor.
