Work Text:

Being named the “fastest hero”, wasn’t some sort of publicity stunt. Hawks had always been the type to do things quick. First to a crime scene, first to finishing paperwork, first to take up any sort of work. He not only owed it to himself to be quick, but to the public.

If he wasn’t exceptionally fast, things would fall behind and then he’d be further back then before he started. Although being fast had its downside. His eyes were hurting as he stared into his laptop. The time being 2:20am, and he felt further behind than ever.

For the first time in months he had listened to the fire wielding demon on his shoulder and took a break. Even if the break felt great in the moment, he was doing nothing but regretting it. The commission had made sure to pile his inbox with files upon files of paperwork to do while he was out.

It felt almost like their own threat to Hawks on taking leave of absences. His hands running through his hair trying to ground himself as quick as possible.

“Three more files”, he somberly muttered to himself. Trying to reassure himself this wasn’t the worst career decision he’s ever made.

His eyes felt heavy and his limbs felt stiff as he stood up and walked to the kitchen. Grabbing a mug and pouring himself some coffee, trying to stay awake. As he heard the sound of the balcony door slide open.

Feathers standing on edge on sleep deprivation, and calming once he remembered only one person would be on his balcony at 2:30am. The same fire wielding asshole that convinced him to take a very relaxing day from work.

Black hair rounded the corner from the living room to the apartment kitchen, a smug smile immediately falling to concern upon a single glance at Hawks.

“You look like shit, bird-brain”, Dabi rasped with his body now leaning on the kitchen counter.

Hawks knew his appearance at the moment couldn’t have been the most appealing. Wearing old lounge pants and some random oversized band shirt, Dabi had left at his place before. Hawks had taking a liking to it, and cut holes for his wings to be more comfortable. And he’d recently become accustomed to wearing one of those spa headbands you find at makeup stores, to keep his bangs out of his face.

He not only felt like a sleep deprived mother, but he was sure he looked like one. Not only was he too exhausted to fight back with Dabi, he was too exhausted to deal with the bickering.

“I don’t want to hear it from you”, Hawks quietly grumbled back. Wanting nothing but to fall asleep.

“Why are you even up this late”, Dabi questioned, staring concerned at Hawks.

Ignoring the question, cup of coffee in hand, he walked slowly back to his table to finish work. Not noticing Dabi had actually followed behind him, he felt eyes over his shoulder. He tuned around and tired eyes met Dabis as he blankly stared back.

“For your information, I am neck deep in paperwork, after being calm for one day.”, Words finally starting to slur together as Hawks stated.

Dabis eyes narrowed as he shifted his eyes away from hawks and to the laptop on the table. There were about 12 tabs open and three separate split screens opened. He wondered how anyone could live with a desktop like that.

“I think you need to sleep, birdie”, Dabi sighed voice seeming throaty.

“I’m not tired”, Hawks quickly retorted, “I have too much work to get done”.

A sigh left Dabi as he met Hawks eyes again. If he wasn’t exhausted he would laugh, as he could tell Dabi was thinking about something. It looked like gears were turning so hard in his brain, hawks could almost hear it.

“How about you finish one more file, and then we go to bed?”, Dabi finally suggested after being quiet for a moment.

Hawks couldn’t deny that sleep sounded good, but finishing his work load sounded better. But he also knew he couldn’t win this argument if he really tried. A yawn escaping his mouth before he rubbed his eyes.

“Okay- fine”, he agreed as he yawned again.

“Good”, Dabi answered, as he placed a hand on hawks shoulder. He walked over to an opposing chair at the table and quietly sat down.

Hawks wanted to laugh to himself as he never thought the most wanted person in Japan would be so concerned about his sleep routine. He sipped from the mug of coffee and began typing again.

Around 3:30 Hawks has finally finished the file he said he would. Glancing up from the computer to find that Dabi had fallen asleep. The usual smug and mystery riddled face looked calm. Lashes spanning down his face, and hawks was jealous he could sleep so easily.

Closing the laptop in front of him and trying to stand up with falling over. He slowly shuffled over to a sleeping Dabi.

“Dabi, wake up”, hawks groaned, “I want to go to sleep too!!”

Slowly but surely Dabi blinked his eyes open, and hawks wanted to punch him for having such nice eyes. Hawks continued to shake Dabi awake until he finally stretched his back and looked upwards.

“Hey Birdie”, Dabi muttered, voice riddled in sleep, “ready to go to bed?”

Dabi finally straightened upwards and Hawks heard his back crack a few times.

“Yeah”, Hawks answered in a slur, just wanting to get into his bed.

Dabi stood up and cracked his back fully before Hawks grabbed his hand and tried to lead him to his room best he could. He noticed he wasn’t as good on his feet at the moment like he wished he was. But he progressed, too close to collapse now.

Finally reaching his bed he plopped down enthusiastically, before fully spanning his wings and stretching his back. He turned his head to find Dabi rummaging through his dresser drawers finding another pair of sweatpants. Before quickly changing into them and walking to the bed.

“I’d make some sort of sarcastic comment right now, but I can’t really think of one”, Hawks mumbled as he felt Dabi lay down.

“Stop trying to come up with witty jokes and go to bed”, Dabi said as he reached over and rested his hand on hawks waist.

Before Hawks could muster another word his head rested on a pillow and he felt himself falling asleep. His well deserved and well earned sleep.

Notes:

I actually wrote this at 2am in complete insomniac sleep deprivation. So I really hope all of that made sense.
