The air in the greenhouse was uncomfortably warm and sticky. Having difficulties breathing was not an uncommon thing during herbology, when all the students grasped for air while fighting off vicious plants. And their professor really liked to bring the most aggressive seedlingsto his class. But now, just before the supper, everything seemed peaceful, despite this small inconvenience.
This was the perfect timing for being here, alone. Obi-Wan was quietly checking his Cobra Lily for any discolorations without being bothered. Trimming what was necessary, he let his wand lie nearby on the table. For this he did not want to use any magic. It helped him connect with the living, doing it by hand: seeking out for them, recognizing their needs, and most importantly - caring for them. At least that is what professor Jinn has taught him. And he was his favorite teacher.
‘I knew I would find you here!’ A familiar voice was followed by a blond haired girl, popping her head into the greenhouse. She made a silly tilt to the side, knowing this will make him smile and lose focus. He didn’t mind that.
‘I was never hiding to begin with,’ he pointed out.
‘Who are you kidding, Kenobi.’
She laughed while walking towards him with a spring in her step. The girl turned around and jumped to sit on the table, next to the plant Obi-Wan was tending. She managed to stay out of its’ reach.
Obi-Wan looked at her. Regular Ravenclaw robes were never an option in her case when they weren’t forced on students. She knew that and put all the effort to show how unique she was - even if it meant going to change clothes at least twice a day. Today she was wearing black with a dark blue poncho. The edges of the material were decorated with small golden swirls. Obi-Wan liked the outfit. It was very like her.
‘You are not here because of the love to gillyweed,’ he pointed out, letting a small smirk corrupt his lips.
‘No, I just came to tell you, that you are going to cry so hard tomorrow.’
He looked at her puzzled for a moment.
‘Because of the Quidditch game?’ He guessed, but she shook her head vigorously. None of them were into it. At least they were not in their house’s teams.
She rolled her eyes and reached out with her hand for the Cobra Lily, but was immediately stopped by Obi-Wan. She looked at him with a sparkle in her eye.
‘That was not what I was expecting! Since when do you care about inferior life forms?’ she mocked him.
He put his hand on his hip, pushing it to the side. This was entertaining, as things always have been with Siri. Obi-Wan looked at her amused enjoying this encounter.
‘You thinking I am nervous, because I won’t let you disturb her?’ he asked with a kept back laughter.
She shook her head.
‘I don’t believe it. Now it is a her. You must be terrified of facing me!’
Obi-Wan let her have a little moment of “triumph”. He felt the Cobra Lily starting to nibble the edges of his robes. It was comforting while it lasted, but it has also taught Obi-Wan he needed to cast Reparo every time he was leaving the greenhouse. Now, focusing on the plant helped him wait out the giggling.
‘We will see tomorrow,’ he answered calmly and gave the plant a fly. He stepped away from the table and took his wand.
‘It’s your last chance to back out. The dueling championship is no place for a shy Hufflepuff!’
He answered her with a smile. And at that moment she was more than sure he would be her toughest opponent tomorrow.
‘That’s what I like about you, Kenobi.’ Siri grinned and tilted her head again. ‘Want to eat together?’
He agreed.
