A Growing List of Lorelei Headcanons (a few of the Wonders included.)

Summary:

This is not going to be formal whatsoever, with vague organization and various casual profanity. I just needed to share more of my headcanons with other people in the (albeit very small) Heartless fandom. <3

Of course, the characters and story elements mentioned here are not mine, they fully belong to ABD Illustrates.

Y’know what’s weird? If I had a nickel for every time I had the lowkey hots for a fem character that is associated with harpies, I’d have two nickels... It ain’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice... Right?
(The other character is Eda the Owl Lady from TOH 💀)

Work Text:

I really said “collect ALL the Lorelei headcanons” like Lance with his hoard of weapons...

1. To start it all off, I’ll share general headcanons, ones that don’t really go off of others/stand alone:

- She is either a raging lesbian or a disaster bisexual, I don’t make the rules

- I SWEAR: Lorelei’s name must be some sort of stage name.. (bc she doesn’t have a known last name) which would add to what I believe to be a weird persona thing.

- She IS gaslight gatekeep girlboss put into a person
- She slays(literally)
- A HUGE body count and not the good one in this case...

- Though she doesn’t like getting her hands dirty, she can and WILL for Alastor/the Jury if it’s an important task.

- Lorelei would have the sweetest yet borderline cringy pet names for people she’s close to 💀
- In contrast the other Wonders (specifically ones Lorelei respects, other than Alastor because he is *not* for that) would call her Angel or something as a nickname

- The villains have to have civilian looks. They can’t just be working for the Jury 24/7, right???
- Comfy wear villains
- That long fluffy flowy robe? Lorelei owns that in both white and black cause she’s a badass and yeah that fits her too well.
- Though her public appearance is 99% of the time (I’m sure) influenced by her reputation/persona, I feel like even in that rare 1% she would still wear clothing that is more graceful or regal looking. Cause again she *is* that bitch

- I imagine the Jury keeps tabs on a LOT of people especially those with magick, witches *or* cursed, it doesn’t matter
- You ever wonder why all the wonders’ curse markings are the same? It makes me think... What if the wonders took on their curses on BEHALF of the Jury? It can’t just be coincidence that their markings are ALL the four pointed star.
- (Unless that’s just the general identification marking for curses in general and I’m overthinking things idfk)

2. The wonders’ curses have drawbacks, a main one being their monstrous forms, correct?

After extended use:
* Randomly sprouting dark feathers?
* She starts to lose her voice?
* I imagine when she’s in her cursed form she has more bird-like mannerisms.
* SHE STEALS SHINY THINGS WHEN UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF HER CURSE.

- Because she can’t use her curse as willy-nilly as she’d like, she must have needed to either be born with natural musical talent or work for it. if she already had a pretty voice, her curse could probably work better without more effort, right?

- Not being able to perform as a result of her curse acting up would be horrible for her “perfect” public image....
- She has to think it through or plan carefully if she happens to need to use the curse in a fight or political/diplomacy conflicts. (And as I’m sure most of you know, protagonists are GREAT at ruining villain’s carefully-constructed plans.)

3. Speaking of:

- CONSIDERING HER “SILVER TONGUE”, YOU THINK SHE WOULD BE CONSIDERED A MAJOR DIPLOMATIC PERSON WHEN IT COMES TO HANDLING CONFLICTING AFFAIRS WITH THE JURY/MAGISTRATUM ???
- Maybe someone else has that covered (technically she already has a role as the spokeswoman/face of the Jury), but still...
- It would make sense why she’s so much higher up status-wise, especially next to Alastor, if she also had an important role in the Jury as well other than being the one to spread their ideologies
- Perhaps she helps her gf Diana in collecting information about witches in the area whilst “traveling around for her various performances”
- Since she’s a fairly public figure I imagine she has a lot of people who would confide in her/look up to her... All the more information to tip off her fellow Jury members for ‘wanted’ witches.

- Lorelei has a great loyalty to the Jury, though the reasoning behind that ofc is not something anyone knows because of the nature of Heartless as a concept... BUT. Various theories I’ve seen include:
- 1. Tying into her admiration for Creed, perhaps in a witch attack she was rescued/taken away from danger by him, who may have noticed/will notice her skills in manipulation/take her in...
- (Even if she was afflicted or not with her curse before she met Creed within this hc, it works...)
- (BUT IF SHE WAS??)
- (That could open up to a whole other side of town... something like “The manipulator becomes the manipulated.” Or in this hypothetical case, “the manipulator was ONCE the manipulated”)
- 2. She originally did not want to join the jury, but they ended up forcing her to take her curse; it brainwashed her into practically a different person
- 3. Similar motivation to Creed??? Perhaps her blood family/a sibling was hurt by a witch 👀
- (I’ve always imagined that Creed’s hatred against witches was far more personal. He must have become the leader of the Wonders in an effort to: (1) acquire revenge on a witch or group of witches that wronged him/someone he cared about, or (2) something dealing with his curse...)

4. About ships:

* I know Lorelei and Alastor would be an obvious first pick, but something just doesn’t feel right with me regarding them together
* It doesn’t seem like Alastor would even have room (emotionally AND literally) for a romantic relationship at all; he seems like the type of villain character that is so focused on his goals, that he doesn’t let anything interfere with reaching them. He is the only brain cell on the team that is completely focused on his job. Next to Diana, maybe.
* On Lorelei’s side?? Honestly with how much of a mystery her ‘true’ character, backstory, and motivations are, I wouldn’t be surprised if her admiration for Creed was just played up as something else for some sort of reputation advantage or something...

* DIANA AND LORELEI THOUGH
* Fancy softspoken gf paired with outspoken ‘not-afraid-to-get-her-hands-dirty’ gf
* Their dynamic could also be labeled as sun/moon but with that classic villain twist. (Cause ofc it has to have a twist, Lorelei’s involved. As much as she would hate being labeled as such, she is a dramatic bitch.)
* pure unbridled violence x “okay you can chill tf out now”
* both have equal strength, one is batshit feral

5. Story headcanons?

- It makes sense that she would be considered an ally to the heroes at first (bonus points if she really is the ‘diplomatic figure’ of the Jury, used as the person to calm down political issues/struggles between the Jury and the Magistratum).
- (DOUBLE plus side if her job as the face of the Jury is something everyone knows, but her being a diplomatic figure is commonly not known. She is KEY of keeping the public in deceit... I just think it’s neat.)
- If Lorelei is introduced on behalf of Alchemy, a huge fan (wink, wink, future angst time)....

This sub-headcanon is kinda long, so...
- If she does have ties to the Magistratum as well(I imagine in spite of being a part of the Jury, she has a VERY good reputation with the Magistratum. Cause, y’know, that’s her whole brand. Hiding in plain sight keeping her true identit(y/ies) a secret.),
- (Wouldn’t that mean that people like River would know of her too?)
- She isn’t revealed to be a villain to the heroes (with plenty of hints to the audience, us, ofc) until perhaps.. a breaking point is reached. She can’t keep up the persona of it means brushing away protecting her pride (or protecting one of the other Wonders, perhaps...?) 👀
- “I was just in a silly goofy mood guys” - Lorelei when she gets caught harassing the MOJO crew
- “Sorry Alastor I was just feeling quirky” - my friend

- I imagine by this point in the story she’s one-upped the heroes many times. Some that they may not remember (cause she’s a manipulator! Yay! /j). Enough to the point where they realize how much of an issue she is to the Magistratum— Especially in her spreading of propaganda about witches as the face of the Jury. But, the only reason she’s able to spread such propaganda is because of her popularity, so...
- What if the Magistratum assigns the MOJO team to try and expose her in some way? Ik not all of the heroes are exactly in the Magistratum, but perhaps they got a message from their friendly neighborhood rogue Hawks lookalike (Krome) translated from one of the people from the Council of Magistrates or something....

- I imagine cause Lorelei is a Wonder(one of the most *powerful* members of the elite cursed unit, at that), the Magistratum would want to capture and contain her so the Jury would lose a bit of their political footing in spreading anti-magick messages.
- It might take a bit of time and effort, but imagine the team finally manages to expose her for the true two-faced backstabber she is— revealing:
- she uses her popularity to spread anti-witch messages; she constantly manipulated and brainwashed people to make herself look better/give herself the opportunity to be violent without repercussions; stuff like that.

(And this is where it starts to sound like a fic.)
She tries her usual tactics to gain control over the crowd(s), using Siren as a ways to calm down the rising tension that is about to absolutely decimate her public image. But, alas... it doesn’t work. With an uneasy smile starting to pierce through her doll-like persona’s face, her desperate attempts to console her fans and their suspicions are to no avail.
As she tries and fails with projecting wave after wave of soft, reassuring words, they soon start to turn louder, more frantic, emotional, and even angry. The hotter her own emotions run, the worse her curse burns to be set free on her back: With every strong use of its twisted magick, the line that keeps Lorelei’s physical form from being corrupted by the Siren thins. Eventually, it breaks— And that is when her cursed form starts to take shape. Her sclera start to darken, feathers start sprouting from all over, and bird-like talons form at the end of her hands. In the end, she’s just screeching to a crowd that won’t listen: and the party’s rumors are proven to be true. She isn’t the perfect, graceful woman like she projected herself to be. Instead, she was a monstrous fraud who only saw her fans as a means to boost her, and by extension, the Jury’s, twisted ideals.

Wooo! I believe her snapping scene would open up to an openly unhinged Lorelei, and I love it.
“A once-beloved angelic opera singer revealed to be a backstabbing witch hunter in disguise, having lost the reputation she had worked so hard to maintain.”
To: “Now there’s absolutely nothing to hold her back from doing *anything* she wants.”

Boom!

6. Just some angsty stuff to end the list! :)

- Y’know how Lorelei and Doppel/Glass are foils to each other, according to ABD?
- And Glass is... a reflection??
- Screams at a high enough decibel can shatter glass. I’m just pointing that out.

On that note, Lorelei is totally the type to hit the right nerves when teasing the heroes, regardless of the effects of her actions. Which means that if Glass really *were* to be a tragic loss on the event of Lorelei losing her shit, she would totally berate Doppel about it.
- Saying “it’s your fault. Did you honestly think bringing glass to a screaming match was going to work out for you?”
- “Now, my sources may be wrong: Though I highly doubt they are: You said, and I quote, ‘Why don’t you just go away?’...”
- “Of course, it isn’t *my* fault, but.. Maybe he shouldn’t have tried getting in my way, or he’d still be here.”

And that’s it! (For now.)

Notes:

She is SUCH a bitch. A horrible person. A manipulator and a deceitful woman. But god, she’s taking up a lot of my brain room, and I need that for OTHER things.

You *could* say she’s used her curse on me..

I don’t know if anyone would have read these, but.. Hope you enjoyed if you’re here! :) Lorelei has been plaguing my mind SPECIFICALLY since rewatching the Heartless part of the Concept Corner series.
