Howling wind and pouring rain.
Not loud though, one could describe it as somehow muffled, even. With some sudden flashes of lighting and yet the rumble that usually follows it is nowhere to be heard, all alluding to how far it happens, giving only some occasional "whispers", if you listen closely. Honestly, you could describe it as the perfect atmosphere to just lie down in bed, maybe think about something, or straight up daydream.
The time being somewhere in early night only fuels this cozy, if not slightly chilly, atmosphere. It is dark, but not completely black, letting you see things around, albeit usually more vaguely than not, especially if they are close… with their colors dyed in somewhat dark-blue-ish gray, but that gives them rather soothing or akin to that appearance? Gifting an effect as if it all was frozen in time, with subtitle movements here and there to remind you that it's, in fact, not the case, only if you pay attention though, that is.
Well, it might be noticeable better if there's another person lying beside you. Even if they don't talk, asleep maybe, you might hear them breathing or see a moving arm or finger… Or just focus on their face and observe any movements that happen. It can show if they are calm, or in deep thoughts, maybe they are seeing something inside their dream, and if it makes them nervous?
Don’t forget to consider your own exhaustion though, as it honestly pretty futile to try and observe someone near if your vision is as blurry as if you were underwater, if not more. If only he could just place his hand on top of other's or even-…
Wait , he could . Red-head interrupted his thoughts himself as quickly as he could, before they sprint into more… awkward direction.
After all, they were close enough, though with reasonable distance… in a way, to him. By that it means giving to the other back, and pretty much the rest of the bed, leaving himself almost on its edge.
He backed it up with "If I lie closer, I might disturb him or worse. It be ligit bad."
The thing is, Kira was more unconscious than sleeping. His whole body has hardly shown any signs of movement since Bolts brought him here. At least, despite some scars and bruises here and there, one even more deep and prominent on left shoulder, that Bolts obviously tried to patch, Kira… didn't appear to be in pain. At least serve one. He was just exhausted, completely drained… that must be it. And yet there was some lingering worry growing inside Bolts, although he definitely was aware of how tough his friend was.
"Whoever that jerk you got yourself involved with was, they sure were a stubborn one, huh." - an almost silent mutter followed by an actual silence. Not like he expected for an answer and, honestly, he didn't care. First-hand knowledge of what Light Duel Master was capable of told him enough to not consider that duel warrior among the living anymore. Not to say that it's always how encounters ended, as blond has grown to be more empathetic and merciful over the time, but… red-head had a hunch.
Wait. Bolts' drowsy eyes fell on Dachicco, who was sleeping just above his Boss' head.
But what if it were like that Geji-freak. Poisonous. And a pain in the ass to get rid off, as a pest he was. He knew Darkness civilization, and, heck, even others, had at least few more to give of such individuals.
To say that he jolted awake wouldn't be an understatement. By obvious, awakening very surprised Dachicco in the process.
"Badbadbadbadlegitbad!!" He haven't considered that! You could say Kira looked perfectly fine, but…
Grabbing blond's hand to check the pulse, all while his own heartbeat was starting to pick up the pace… It seems ok. Weaker than it probably should be, yet… it’s alright.
Still too early to celebrate.
"Boss, what's wrong-s? Did the justice guy did somethi-" - but before mouse pal could finish, the other voice interrupted. - "Hey, how much of a chance there could be another freaky centipede or whatever!? Like that Gejinsuke guy!" - poor startled mouse didn't knew what to answer, only look at Kira with confusion. - "Uhhh… not that I've heard of any going around personally. Could it be…?" - a nod. - "What if it was something poisonous. I mean…" - his hand still was gripping his friend's, probably forgetting by now he was even doing it. - "He is… not that weak, right? He should have woken up hours ago. Ya know, with me nearby especially?"
That did make sense. Kira can act adamant more than anything regarding his position in the friend group, as well as duelist, when it comes to Bolts. Joe is his best friend and Cap, well, he is bubbly and nice. Somehow it looked to Bolts, upon seeing them for the first time together, as if they were already in a better relationship than he was with Kira back then. Not like it bothered him, though. When it comes to competitive rivalry, they both seem to get reeled up against each other differently as if to compare to their friends.
Of course Bolts knows it all comes down to first impression. And hoo boy, what a legit BAD impression it was. What to say about second, and following… Well, followings were more of observing and hanging out together with Joe.
Either way! It was Kira and he would be awake by just hearing Bolts' voice calling through his unconsciousness right at the spot where he passed out.
"Hey, razzle-dazzle, time to rise and shine." - silence. - "Kira, wake up. C'mon." - again, no words back. Not even a weak movement of eyes or anything. - "Kira, Kira, H…" - little doubt came across red's face. It was fine, even though, usually then not, he called him such jokingly or to get attention. You could say it was the same situation as later… despite that his voice wasn't annoyed or interested in something, contrarily it was just almost deadpan, and worried.
"Hikaru, get the hell up." -anddddd!...Also no reaction. He gives up. Maybe he should call a doctor, after all. Except… what doc of human world can do? Humanity sure has been getting aware about creatures being real and whatnot in last couple of decades, but… It’s still a whole other world, only few have seen it, it’s unexplored for local medics.
And hoo boy again, he hated that thought.
Couple, maybe ten or so minutes passed. Bolts' vision was getting muddy from exhaustion, almost getting close to the picture of what you would see if you try to peek through your window right now. Murky, unfocused… at least not wet. Yet? Did he cried back then ? Or was just pissed off? Can't recall, taking down Ze-ro was a priority and such.
But one for certain, he felt upset. And he probably was feeling it as of now, too. Too dimmed by his tired mind and body to fully realize. Honestly, he would shake other and firmly say (shout more likely) to get himself together, to stop lying around, he's better, way better than that, Joe and Cap be worried, and, and…
Oh, the pair of blue eyes were staring at him. Tiredly. Half-open. But Bolts was the center of their attention.
And the gaze was a bit hostile. At first, at least. Appears it blond just needed time to get who was in the picture and, funnily enough, a little mouse with a flame tail at one's side helped more with that than the main subject himself.
"Bolts. Hand. Get off."
Ah, he must have been starting to grip it too tight at some point under all worri- Wait when did he even wake up?!
His voice sounded not quite as whisper, but clearly muted. You could hear annoyance in it, but Bolts knew… It was more just a facade, to not let his face down. He's very likely confused and…
A slight groan and some muttering, all into the pillow. The most important, Bolts could decipher "... it hurts… "
Shit, what now? Oh right, better ask him, yea, he'll pull something out, even with attempts to run from the question, he ought to give some useful information.
Ok, alright, first thing first: "Are you… Was that thing poisonous?!"
"Wh… no?" - it came out more perplexed in a way, though the intent clearly meant affirmative.
"So you're not dying right now?"
"... Knocked out. It seems." - a short, cut reply. Which probably only added fire to the situation, or well, Bolts' state.
"" Knocked out. " my ass! I was trying to wake you up like no tomorrow back then! Dude, what did ya ran into?!" - I mean, it definitely was more than losing consciousness for a few moments, so the rise in voice wasn't uncalled for. Still, he tried not to go off the rails, keeping it moderate, yet you clearly could hear some notes of anger coming on its surface.
That's to say, the attempt failed, and the line came out louder than expected, to which blond could only scowl: ".. L.. Loud. Shut up… "
It would be a lie to say it didn't irked him, but Bolts let it fly by. He honestly couldn't feel mad over Kira's messy attitude right now.
He cautiously put hand on blond's shoulder, over a bandage, as an attempt to point out what he did: "... I-I patched your shoulder and uh, the other bruises I saw. Just… anything else? Did ya hit head too hard?"
"Maybe… It be ok…" - seeing (as much as he could) how the concern wasn't going anywhere from his friend's face, Kira exhaustedly sighing, tried to get his voice more firm together, and added. - "It's fine. Don't worry." - then, after some pause, - "No, but it's loud."
"Sorry pal, can't do anything about the rain. It ain't that drumming outside, though? Should end soon. Try to sleep. "- or so he hopped. Guess likely being bluntly hit on the head will make you prone to any noise, huh. Obvious thing… And he didn't have any earbuds to spare him, damn.
On good news, hey, Kira was awake and relatively… relatively fine. Also the jolt of realization hit Bolts: it's been dark all this time, with Dachicco's faint fire being the only source of light in the room. Or, if you're not counting blond's forehead star, Bolts could swear it had some little illumination going on. Somehow. Dim and little, just like some distant one in the night sky. That type that is interesting to follow, as it always has a chance of passing away from your field of vision. He had seen dozens of such while staying outdoors on his trips, staring into the space void till he fell asleep, but… Well, his friend wasn't so artsy and of an abstract being, despite something felt… around the same. Maybe distance, not physical, some other kind. And presentation. Stars look so calming from afar, but upon closer inspection it's prob some giant ball of fire or frozen acidic sphere. Tricky to get just by looking at little yellow-white-ish dot swimming between myriads of its siblings.
One could say that Light DM was indeed kindred spirits with them…or maybe someone is making a stretch here. Embarrassing.
The silence fell for a few moments again, until abrupt "You're staring…" finished it off, be it just for a brief moment.
Bolts was staring, yes, what the hell else should he be doing? Was it over concern or did it indeed… switched to Kira specifically, and he just didn't notice.
It was both.
And he clearly wasn't confident of what to do with this fallen star he got tied to. To his luck, not like "the star" knew any better.
