Chapter Text
My eyes were barely staying open as I walked to school with my best friend Cho. Today was my first day at Karasuno high, I was feeling the usual emotions that you feel when school starts again. Excited, nervous and... well, really just they two emotions. I was still living in my spring holidays, not that I did much, I just slept most days. Anyway I'm getting off track, Karasuno high, an elite, prestigious, glorious school... no, I'm joking it was actually pretty easy to get into, that's why I applied.
I'm so funny
"What's your home room class again?" Cho asked me. Me and her have been best friends since we were seven years old.
"A and your C right?" I said while yawning
"Yeah, sucks we won't be in any classes together," Cho said while looking down at her phone. Karasuno is quite different from other schools as instead of teachers switching classrooms the students switch and sometimes classes can be with other students that aren't in your homeroom, although that's pretty rare. (I know this isnt actually true in Japan but I wanted to write it this way for the plot, sorry)
"I know but we live pretty close together so we can still walk to school together! we also have lunch," I said enthusiastically
"Yeah, you're right. Plus, we'll find new friends." She typed away on her phone not really paying attention
"Yeah... new friends," I said trying to sound optimistic but nerves and worry swarmed around in my stomach
making new friends will be easy right? And plus even if I don't make new friends I'll still have Cho...
Right? (Italics are her thoughts)
"Do you think we'll see anyone from middle school?" I asked hopeful. Although Cho was really my only friend it would still be nice to have people that I knew in my class
"Probably, I think most of them applied for this school."
"That's good, I hope some of them are in my homeroom so I can see some familiar faces." I yawned and stretched trying to wake myself up
"Meh," she replied with an unfazed expression and her eyes glued to her phone
We walked in silence for a few minutes, the silence made me more tired. I NEEDED SOME ACTION. "Do you know if we will be at the school soon?"
"Yeah, we aren't far away" she mumbled still looking down at her phone
"Okay good! What shall we do when we get there? We're pretty early!" I asked excited. I had never been so early to school but because it was my first day I was REALLY nervous so I barely slept. Plus Cho would never risk being late to school.
"I don't know about you, but I'm going to see if there's anyone from my homeroom I can make friends with," Cho said coldly. She looked at me for a split second before going back to being invested in her phone. Sometimes her coldness would make me sad but I knew that's just who she was, she doesn't mean it in a bad way.
Ive never seen her so invested in her phone
She's not the type of person to text or play mobile games, she would much rather read a book
So what is she doing?
Maybe she's changed since the last time I saw her... it was a pretty long time
"I shall go searching for a vending machine, I think I might die from dehydration," I replied trying to shake off the cold shoulder she gave me. Cho giggled and I couldn't tell if it was from what I said or from her phone.
So she's texting someone
But who?
Has she made friends already?
Probably from the introduction day we had
I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE WENT TO THAT!
"What do you have first thing?" I asked trying to make conversation
"PE what about you?" She half asked
"Uhhhh" I trailed off trying to remember what I had first
"Oh my god, did you forget?" She said with a tiny laugh
At least I got her to laugh... even if it was at me
"No!" I said defensively and she shook her head and continued typing on her phone
I dont like this silent and cold tension
Where is this school?
"Areeee we allllmost thereee" I whined getting annoyed from the walking
"Yup, we're actually here," she said as she put her phone in her pocket
"Oh"
How the hell did I not notice? Maybe I really am dying from dehydration
"Yeah well, bye Y/n" she waved and walked off
"Bye! See you at lunch," I said while waving at her
God now I have to go find these dumb vending machines
Where do they usually even put vending machines?
Does this school even have vending machines?
Oh my god!
What if they don't?!
Imagine when everyone turns up to school and they see my body on the ground dead from dehydration
I'd probably resurrect myself and die from embarrassment
In a weird desperate panic I started looking around for the vending machines and when I finally spotted them I sighed from relief but after my sighing, I noticed a guy was already standing there. I was considering not getting anything but after my little 'oh no I'm dead' thing it's probably best I get something
I mean what's the worst that could happen?
Yeah, I could embarrass myself and then this guy goes around telling everyone and then everyone gives me a nickname that's super embarrassing and then my high school journey is over-
Jesus I really need to stop watching romcoms
I sighed from the mayhem going on inside my brain and got annoyed from how stupid I was being so I forced myself to walk over to the vending machines
I stood behind him waiting and waiting and waiting for him to do SOMETHING, ANYTHING like ANYTHING at all but no, he just stood there silent
I've been waiting behind this guy for like 6 minutes now
what the hell is he doing?
should I ask him if he's okay?
I mean what could really be taking him so long
"Hey, are you okay?" I questioned concerned
The guy jumped, startled at my sudden voice before he turned around slowly. There was a pause in between my question and his reply as we looked at each other. I finally got to look at the guy who spent 6 minutes staring at the vending machine. He had black hair that wasn't too short but also wasn't too long, perfect almost. His intense blue eyes honestly scared me, they were like too... blue? I've been tall all my life so I was surprised that he was taller than me... it was unusual and It was weird to feel the intimidation of actually being smaller than someone. I guessed that he couldn't be a first year because of his height
After what felt like an eternity of looking at each other he finally replied "Yeah, why?" He asked confused
For a second, I forgot what I asked and what was going on because his piercing eyes hypnotised me. I snapped out of it as I subtly pinched myself and replied like I wasn't being really creepy "You've been staring at the vending machine for like six minutes now,"
"Oh... really," he said with a puzzled face
"Yeah, are you going to buy something orrrr" I trailed of while looking between the vending machine and him
"I'm trying to decide what to get," he said while cutting off my very long 'or'
"Uhhh ok, well what are your choices?" I asked curiously as I stepped next to him to look at the vending machine better
"Plain milk or chocolate milk," he said as he turned around and looked at the vending machine with me
"Well, I mean obviously chocolate milk but the universe might disagree so... I don't know? Maybe flip a coin," I said as I turned slightly to face him
"Hm okay, I mean I can't decide otherwise" he shrugged but his expression didn't change once
Why does his face just stay the same?
Maybe he's a robot or something...
Very weird
He got a coin from his pocket, put it on his thumb and index finger and flipped it. Mine and his eyes followed the coin going up and then down until it hit the floor, I bent down to pick it up without realising that he did the same. Our heads clashed into each other and we both fell to the ground
"Ouch," I said while rubbing my head
I looked up to see that he was rubbing his head as well. I stood up and extended my hand, waiting for him to take it "I'm sorry I didn't realise you were going to get it," I said with guilt and he grabbed my hand
"Nah it's okay," he said while standing up
I gave him a smile before remembering about the coin "Did you see which one it landed on?" I asked
"I think... it landed on tails?" he said unsure with his hand on his chin
"And which milk was tails?" I asked while looking up at him with a eyebrow raised
"Uhhhhh chocolate milk?"
"The universe agrees with me!" I said happily and he stared down at me for a few minutes. His eyes staring into my soul. It gave me the chills
This is so weird
Why is this guy just staring at me?
Is he crazy or something
Is he trying to challenge me to a staring competition?
I tried to look away from him but it was weird, it's like I couldn't. His eyes pulled me into an ocean and I couldn't swim out... but I didn't want to. He made me feel something weird, something that I've never felt before.
"Uh, are you going to get your milk or not?" I managed to say
"Oh yeah," he said while turning around
I shook off his strangeness and looked at my phone and realised we only had 7 minutes until class "Hurry! We only have a few minutes until class" I panicked as I done a few steps from side to side to try and calm down
"Jeez Louise, calm down. I'm hurrying," he said while putting his money in the vending machines
I stopped my steps from side to side as I crossed my arms "I am calm" my tone changing to a slightly annoyed one
"Mhmmm are you going to get milk or not?" He said while moving out the way and leaning on another vending machine
"I could have gone to that vending machine all along," I said while looking at him up and down
"Oh yeah, why didn't you?" he asked while looking at the vending machine he was leaning on
"I don't know, I guess your weirdness distracted me," I said while deciding what to get
“You should thank me. This vending machine has nothing good in it," he said while rolling his eyes
"Whatever, anything is better than dying from dehydration."
He looked at me weirded out as he drank his milk "What??" I said in a defensive tone
"Nothing. Are you going to get your drink or not?" he said looking away from me
"I'm. Trying." I said annoyed as I took deep breaths
"Then try harder," he said rolling his eyes AGAIN
This guy
Honestly!
After all I've done to help him
I angrily typed in the buttons for strawberry milk and then I angrily took my money out of my purse and then angrily put my money in the vending machines
"Woah someone's angry," he said with a slight laugh
"Oh, I wonder why," I said while angrily getting my strawberry milk
"Strawberry milk... seriously?" he said while looking at me concerned
"What's wrong with strawberry milk?" I angrily asked
"It's something a 6-year-old would drink," he said as he stared me dead in the face while still drinking his CHOCOLATE milk
"And chocolate milk isn't?"
"Touché," he said while chuckling
I guess his whole 'no expressions I'm a robot' thing is over and his whole 'I'm an annoying douchebag' thing is in
"Trying to sound smart with words like that I bet you don't even know what it means," I said while poking my straw into my milk and drinking it
"I used it correctly didn't I?" he said with a smug smile
"Fair point," I said with a itty bitty smile
I examined his whole stature, trying to figure out who he was by how he looked. Which probably wasn't the best idea since I only knew two categories for people: fuckboy and preppy. He didn't give me fuckboy vibes but he also didn't give me preppy vibes. To be honest, I don't know what vibes I got from him. His face was usually a scary intimidating one which would give you the idea that he's some delinquent but his occasional laughs and smiles and even the way he cutely rolled his eyes would never make you think that.
I shouldn't judge him based of his looks
That's mean
My eyes continued to wonder over him until they stopped at his eyes which were red and sunken into his face. As he was drinking his milk he stopped to yawn and then continued.
He looks tired
"Why do you seem like you have been awake for ages?" I asked trying to pull myself out of my trance
I hope he didn't notice me staring at him
I think he spaced out too so he probably didn't
Phew
"I was in the gym," he said with no emotion
"Why?" I asked curiously
"Practice"
He's definitely the type of person to reply 'k' after everything in text
"Practice for what?" I asked while raising an eyebrow
He stayed silent for a few seconds before replying "Why are you so nosy?"
"Why are you so weird?" I countered
"How am I weird?" he said with a confused face mixed with a moody face
"You stared at a vending machine for like 5 minutes," I said with a straight face
"Milk is a very serious topic," he said as he looked down at his milk
"I guess" I said with a shrug
"Where are all your friends?" he asked while smirking teasingly
"Where are yours?" I said sort of defensive
"Damn for someone so nosy you sure don't share a lot," he said with that god annoying smirk on his face
"Well, I don't know you. You could be a serial killer" I darted my eyes over him suspiciously
"No, I think you didn't tell me because you have no friends," he said plainly as he examined my reaction
"I have friends!" I said as a crossed my arms
"Where are they then?" He asked still smirking
"Where. Are. Yours?" I said while trying to stay calm
"Spoken like someone who doesn't have friends," he said and then laughed at how angry I got
"You probably have no friends either!" I said as I rolled my eyes
"True, but I don't pretend like I do"
"I do have friends!"
"Ok then" he said as he tried to keep in a laugh
How unbelievably rude I've known him for like 15 minutes!
I gave him amazing ideas and he claims I have no friends
I sighed as I took my phone out my pocket, I looked at the time and realised we only had 3 minutes. I almost spat my milk out.
"WE ONLY HAVE THREE MINUTES!" I shouted in a panicked tone
"Ok, let me finish my milk first," he said unbothered
"GOD THIS IS NOT A TIME TO THINK ABOUT MILK," I said while throwing mines in the trash
"Calm down will you," he said as he rolled his eyes
If this motherfucker tells me to calm down ONE more time I swear I will-
Why am I even waiting for him?
I don't know him
I am not going to be late just because of some guy
So many things raced through my head of what to say to him but instead, I smiled said no and walked away
"Where are you going?" He shouted after me confused
"To class" I shouted while looking behind me
"Wait!"
