Much needed rest

Summary:

The man he is, Chris could use a break and his partner is more than willing to help him relax.

Work Text:

“Just rest, okay?" (Y/N) asked of him, despite being fully aware that he was quite literally incapable of doing so. Yet he only let out a sigh of defeat, knowing he couldn't argue with his spouse's request.

Lounging on the couch, Chris relished the peaceful atmosphere their shared home radiated. Warmth and a strong scent of freshly-made coffee were in the air; he knew he was home.

“So…” (Y/N) sat next to him, before placing two mugs on the coffee table. “Do you want to talk about it?” They asked, implying the latest mission he had just returned from.

“I would rather not.” Bitterness weaved in his expression, hinting that something horrible must have happened. He took his mug, sipping the warm liquid. The steam, surfacing from the coffee, tingled his nose.

“I understand. Claire dropped off some cookies a few days back. Do you want some?” They suggested in hope to brighten up his sour mood.

“How could I say no.” The corners of his lips curled into a light contagious grin (Y/N) couldn’t help, but smile back at.

In the matter of seconds, they were back with a bowl full of chocolate chip cookies, causing his greyish eyes to widen in awe.

“I see my sister has her ways of making up for my absence.” He spoke, whilst munching on a fistful of the dessert.

“Yeah, but I prefer when you’re home.” They snuggled against his side, tightly wrapping their arms around his narrow waist; (Y/N) took a deep breath, inhaling his aroma.

“Me too, darling.” In return he embraced them with his chin resting atop their head, his stubble poked their scalp. “Words can’t describe how much I’ve missed you.” He confessed as he toyed with their (H/C) hair.

“I wish we could stay like this forever.” Their digits caressed his defined muscles through the fabric of his gray turtleneck that tightly hugged every curve of his exhausted body. In response he only hummed; his heartbeat echoed underneath their ear, instantly putting them at ease.

For a few long moments, they stayed still, their breathing being the only sound to be heard in the quite afternoon. Soft taps on the windows alerted Chris’s attention; outside, rain was gently pouring. Just as he was about to point it out, he noticed (Y/N) was asleep, a tiny smile was written on their face; they looked content. Carefully, he placed a blanket- that was neatly placed beside him- over his spouse, covering both him and his lover.

“You too need to rest, dear.” He whispered softly before planting a kiss to their temple; not so long after he too fell into deep peaceful slumber.
