“I won’t let you do this alone” You told Bones, not allowing any room for argument in your voice. You knew he wanted to, he was stubborn that way, but one look at you and he knew that it would be fruitless, you were just as stubborn.
“Fine. But you better run fast.” He sighed.
“Same goes for you.” You nodded. You looked out of the cave entrance that you and the rest of the stranded members of the crew were currently hiding.
A distraction was needed. Transporters were finally working but to safely get everyone out, you all needed to get to higher land, but for that to be successful, the eyes of the hostile aliens needed to be elsewhere. Bones had suggested having someone run out of the cave in the opposite direction that everyone needed to go, giving the rest of you time to get to a safe spot to have Scotty beam you all up. He theorized that hopefully he would also be able to get picked up by the transporter but everyone knew the chances weren’t good. You were also aware that the more distraction the better, so of course you volunteered as well.
“We should go in different directions.” You suggested. “That way they are split up, all their attention away from everyone else, and it would probably give us each a slightly better change.”
“Fine. But I swear if you think of getting yourself injured-” Bones started.
“I know, you’ll kill me. Don’t worry, neither of us are getting injured.”
“Good.”
With that there was no more time to waste. With one more look at the crew, them all reading themselves, you gave Bones one last look, and as soon as you turned, you both broke out in a sprint.
You were hoping that it might take a few seconds before your attackers would notice you, you wanted a small headstart, but they were on you immediately. You ran in a zig zag, trying your best to avoid trees, roots and the spears and arrows that were flying past you as you got farther and farther away from the safety of the cave.
You didn’t dare look over your shoulder to see just how many were following you, all you could do was hope that more were on you then were on Leonard. You had made sure to take off just a little before him, hoping to attract more of the attention to yourself, which by the amount of projectiles being hurled towards you, you might have been successful.
Your lungs were burning and your legs felt as if they were on fire. You had no idea how long you had been running, no idea if the crew, or Bones were safe yet. All you could do was hope and keep running.
Suddenly you noticed the slight glow surrounding you, the relief you felt as the warmth overtook your body, without thinking you immediately stopped in your tracks. The feeling of the transporter masked the searing pain you would normally have felt as the two arrows made contact with your body. One into your calf, the other straight through your shoulder.
The moment of relief you felt upon seeing the transporter room was only temporary. As soon as your feet were solidly under you, you tried to relax your body, only to feel the shooting and intense pain spread through your entire being.
The scream you let out was all but unholy as you crumbled to the ground. You never felt yourself make contact with the ground as you were swiftly caught by your favorite grumpy doctor. One who was probably as out of breath as you were.
“I thought you said you wouldn’t go getting yourself injured.” He huffed.
“This? It’s barely a scratch” You huffed. It wasn’t until then that you had even looked down at yourself, noticing the two arrows sticking out of your leg and shoulder. “Okay, maybe a little worse than a scratch.”
“Yeah, you could say that.” He grumbled back. You felt him starting to shift, trying to lift you up so he could get you on the stretcher that you hadn’t noticed appeared.
“Good thing I’m dating such a great doctor.” You smiled at him through the pain of being shifted.
“You might not be feeling so lucky in a second, we are going to have to move you, and I don’t have time to wait for the anesthetic to kick in. This is going to hurt. You ready?” He asked softly.
You instinctively reached for his arm, gripping tightly before nodding. He finally fully shifted and managed to stand up with you in his arms. You had been hoping not to scream out, you knew inflicting pain on you was the last thing he wanted to do, but you found it impossible not to let out the scream as you felt the searing pain intensify. Maybe it was the pain, maybe the hypo he had given you had worked faster than he thought they would, but you started to notice black dots on the edge of your vision and you allowed them to pull you under.
“I love you Len,” You felt yourself whisper before slipping far away from him.
