Being a ghost can be really sad and lonely. The majority of the world can't see you, making it near impossible to interact with just about anything. It's hard to keep track of time and know what's going on. It's difficult to choose a home, because some living human will always unknowingly invade it. There's little to no sense of smell or feel left in your body when you're a ghost ... Case in point, it's hard.
Take it from Minase Rio. He's had firsthand experience with the issue.
He's spent many agonizing decades wondering what to do with himself ever since he became a ghost, memory growing more and more fuzzy by the day, an empty husk of whoever he was when he was still alive.
If it wasn't for the cat leading him to Yatogami Fuma, Rio would still be like that to this very moment, but thankfully, things have been changing lately ... Rio's begun to realize that there are some perks to being a ghost.
He never ever gets physically tired, meaning he can play video games for hours without it doing anything really bad to him, or dance for days, or swim across the whole ocean if he really wanted to. Walls, cliffs, locked doors, and the likes are all no match for Rio, who can easily get through all of that (though he never abused that power, don't get him wrong.)
Best of all, he ended up joining Uproar!!
After all, Rio probably wouldn't have met Fuma and thought to go after his old dream of being an idol, had he not been a ghost first. In the end, it seems as though Rio was fated to be a ghost. Ironically, his life began, so that it could end. It was all in order for Rio to be able to open the doors to a much better life, one that he has always dreamt of and longed for.
Had he not stumbled upon that cat at the pier, had it not lead him to Fuma ... If Rio didn't accidentally burn Gamma's coat at Uyu's café ...
Life works in such mysterious ways, doesn't it?
... Or rather, the afterlife, in this case.
