Chapter 1: Katica Lavellan

Chapter Text

Long silver hair like rays of moonlight through the canopy of an ancient forest. Skin the shade of the old, knotted trees who’s roots reached the very centre of the earth. Her face was marked by the white antlers of a halla- the sign of Mythal the Protector and All-Mother.

Like the goddess, Katica had a love that would endure any hardship. A love for the sun and stars, for the grass and trees, and for every creatures of the earth- Katica Lavellan had a determination to see the light in the darkest of souls.

She woke that morning, the cold mountain air around Skyhold blowing through the opened doors of the balcony. The frigid winds were an icy drawback of needing fresh air through the night.

Growing up, raised out in the elements- shem structures were stifling. Or perhaps it was the constant state of anxiety she existed in that made it hard to breathe. From the moment she had woken in that dark cell, chains around her wrist and a burning pain from her sudden glowing palm, everything frightened her.

They still shouted for answers but her voice had left her so many years before. Her hands that spoke for her had been silenced by the shackles.

Now despite her inexperience, her youth and her naivety, everyone looked to her as their leader. She feared and hated how a single choice made with the best of intentions still saw to the deaths of countless, faceless lives.

Some said she was wasting time, running errands for the most insignificant of reasons… but it was the only way she could remind herself of the lives of people who had put her on that gilded pedestal.

Katica shook her head and slapped her own cheeks.

Staying focussed was not one of her gifts but she had too much to protect now to be distracted.
