Work Text:

Eight days. That’s how long Wilhelm has gone without seeing or speaking to Simon. They’ve shared a few exchanges over text but the nine-hour difference between them means that Wille hasn’t been able to call and hear Simon’s voice. Eight days without hearing Simon’s voice is borderline torture. He misses Simon’s voice. He’s pretty sure he hasn’t spent more than a day or two without talking to Simon since those few weeks during Christmas break their first year at Hillerska. Those few weeks were hell, almost quite literally.

He really misses Simon. His heart aches to hear his voice, see his face. Wille doesn’t know how much longer he can go without seeing or hearing Simon. Maybe he’s being a little overdramatic but possibly talking to Simon is the only thing getting him through the meeting he’s currently in.

Wilhelm sits in a room listening to the meeting he doesn’t care about. Honestly, he doesn’t even know why he’s here. There are other world leaders and high-ranking royal family members from other countries in the room but he doesn’t understand what the meeting is about, or why they had to meet in California of all places. He’d much rather be with Simon in their bed back in Sweden instead of zoning out in a random meeting he shouldn’t even be in. His mother should be here but nope. She sent Wilhelm.

At five, the meeting is over so everyone can get some food, relax, and do whatever. Wille’s grateful because that had to have been the most boring meeting of his life, and he’s been a Crown Prince and going to meetings like this for nearly five years at this point.

Wille calculates the time on the way up to his hotel room and figures out that it’s two in the morning in Sweden. It’s the middle of the night for Simon, but he’s gone long enough without hearing Simon’s voice. He’d happily spend a few minutes on the phone with Simon. It’s better than nothing.

As soon as Wille is changed into something more comfortable, he plops down on his bed and pulls up Simon’s contact. He presses the FaceTime button and hopes Simon is up working late in the studio.

The phone rings three, four, five times before Wille goes to press the little X that will end the call because Simon’s probably asleep. Then he sees that he’s connecting with Simon and stops himself.

A very sleepy Simon answers the phone. Wille has to hold back a smile at how cute he looks with his messy curls and tired eyes.

“Wille?” Simon asks, voice slurred with sleep. “It’s two in the morning. Is everything okay?”

He nods and admires Simon through the phone. “Yeah,” he breathes out. “The meeting just ended and I missed your voice and your face so I thought I’d give you a call. I was hoping you were out working late or something and that I wouldn’t wake you.”

Simon yawns and Wille’s heart swells. It’s truly been too long since he’s seen Simon. “Maybe send a text first to make sure I’m awake before you call next time,” Simon mumbles.

“You didn’t have to answer, Simon,” Wille teases.

His boyfriend shakes his head and looks at Wille through the screen. “I missed your voice and your face too,” he admits. “I don’t care what time of day it is. If you call, I’m answering it. End of story. I’d just prefer if it wasn’t in the middle of the night.”

Wille smiles and says, “Same goes for you.” Simon has a tired smile on his face. “I’ll let you go back to sleep now. You look like you need it.”

“Fuck you,” Simon halfheartedly retorts, making Wille laughs. “When are you coming home? I really miss you. It’s so lonely here without you.”

“Three days,” Wille replies. “Tops. Three more days until you can sleep around me like a koala or something. You really like to do that sometimes.”

Simon sticks his tongue out at Wille. “I am not a koala,” he states.

“You are,” Wille laughs. “A very cute one at that.”

“Maybe you should stay in California if you’re going to call me a koala,” Simon says, trying to be serious but the smile on his face gives it away that he’s not.

“Go to sleep, Simme,” Wille tells him, laughter still evident in his voice. “I’ll be here in a few hours when you get up if you want to call me.”

He watches Simon shake his head. “Stay on FaceTime with me until I fall asleep,” he says to Wille. “Please. It’s like you’re here.”

“Of course.”

Wille plugs his phone into his charger and gets comfortable. He uses the extra pillows to prop his phone up beside him so he doesn’t have to hold the device. Simon gets comfortable on screen and lets out a soft sigh. He tries to keep his eyes open but fails so miserably. It’s very cute.

“I love you, älskling,” Wille whispers.

Simon mumbles something that Wille assumes is an “I love you too” before he falls asleep. Wille smiles and just watches Simon sleep until he follows suit about a half hour later despite it only being almost six in the afternoon.

He dreams of reuniting with Simon in three days.
