Chapter 1: 29 July 1981

Chapter Text

July 29, 1981 - Strasbourg, Germany

Little Laurence Auzière was a French girl who watched the wedding of the Heir to the British Throne from a home in Germany.

What was a French girl doing in Germany, you might ask?

The answer was simple, her mother, Brigitte, had been teaching at Collège Lucie-Berger and with that job came relocating the entire family miles away.

You might ask again - why is she, and her family, watching a British Royal's wedding?

Again, the answer was simple, on that day, Germany, and most of the world, were tuned into what was dubbed as the Greatest Royal Wedding of the Century.

Much has been said about how Prince Charles of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer were a perfect match - here we have the dashing Prince of Wales, Heir to the British Throne, and the beautiful aristocratic daughter of the Earl Spencer. For the past few weeks, all the press in Britain and even in Germany could ever talk about besides their respective countries' local issues was the upcoming wedding of Charles and Diana...

...and now, Britain, and the rest of the world, was going to bear witness to this historical wedding.

Laurence watched in awe as Diana walked down the aisle towards her groom. This four year old girl was still starting to make sense of the world and had just learned from the bedtime stories that her mother tells her about Prince Charmings and Happily Ever Afters. What she thought only existed in fiction was actually something that existed in real life - or at least this was what she was seeing from the wedding.

Hours seemed to be moments as she watched the rest of the wedding. At this point, the newlywed Charles and Diana had now been declared Husband and Wife to the cheers of the people in St. Paul's Cathedral. As "God Save The Queen" played after the wedding ceremony, as it is customary in British Royal Weddings, Laurence said to herself...

...Un jour, j'aurai mon bonheur pour toujours.
