~ The Hanahaki Disease ~
“hana” meaning flower, “haki” meaning to throw up
A disease in which the victim starts growing flowers in their lungs due to one-sided love. The victim will start coughing up a few petals at first, and as their condition worsens, the petals will begin to become flowers, until the victim is coughing up multiple, whole flowers at a time.
Symptoms include:
- Coughing up petals, or flowers, depending on which stage the victim is at.
- Hemoptysis (Coughing of blood)
- Lovesickness
- Coughing fits
Possible Cures:
- When the person whom the victim loves kisses them, making it so that the victim’s love is no longer unrequited.
- A complicated medical surgery in which the victim has the flowers surgically removed from their lungs. However, a side effect of this is that the victim’s romantic feelings for their beloved also disappear along with the flowers. The victim may also experience memory loss of their loved one.
- Death.
Due to these methods being the only cure, 91% of people who contract Hanahaki die, due to them rather die than have their romantic feelings taken away from them.
8% of people who contract Hanahaki get surgery, but a common side effect of this is that the victim loses all memory of the person they previously loved, as well as their romantic feelings for them disappearing.
1% of people who contract Hanahaki are able to get their loved one to return their feelings and live perfectly normal lives.
