Mustafar, in Mando'a / Mustafar, o'r Mando'a

Summary:

The iconic scene from Revenge of the Sith... now in Mando'a.
Or, at least part of it.

Translation notes and pronunciation guide available!

Chapter 1: The Translation / Miite

Notes:

I really had too much fun doing this. You read enough Star Wars fanfiction with random Mando'a tossed in and suddenly you find yourself pulling up three separate dictionaries and looking up synonyms.

Because copyright law is indecipherable, this work is definitely transformative because it takes place in an alternate universe where Mando'a is the common language instead of Basic.

Lines are from Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. Mando'a created by Karen Traviss. Translation by me, of course.

Notes on the hows and whys of translation, as well as pronunciation are found in the following chapters.

Enjoy! Haili cetare!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Side-by-Side

English

Mando'a

I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new empire.

Ni ru'dinui naak, mavar, tor, bal cabu bah ner ori'tom'vhetine evaar'la.

Your new empire?

Tion gar ori'tom'bhetine evaar'la?

Don't make me kill you.

Ke'nu ukoro ni kyr'amu gar.

Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy!

Anakin, ner verbur bah te tsad droten, bah trat'an'gyce!

If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.

Meh ne gar ti ni, gar ner aru'e.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must.

Shi darjetii borari ti mirutrese. Ni ven'vaabi meg ni enteyo.

You will try.

Gar ven'kebbu.

Comments or complaints on the translation? I'd love to hear them. It's not like I'm fluent in Mando'a but I love to talk about it :). This was a fun project for me but i want to make sure I am not mangling the language too much.

Also, if anyone does anything with this, I'd love to see it. Please, if you do, put the link down in the comments.

Thanks and bye! Vor'e bal Ret'!
