Chapter 1: 1 week later

Chapter Text

Sunny POV

It had been a week since everything happened. A week since the fight with Basil. A week since I went outside. A week since I told them the truth. I repeated the words in my head, "Sunny you're- you're joking. Right?" "You sick bastards kept it to yourselves you- you-" I could hear the words so clearly as if they were speaking now.

I heard a knock at my door and saw Basil walk in. "Hey Sunny," he said to me, "How have you been?" I wanted to say "terrible" or "awful" but instead I responded with, "Alright," "That's good," Basil exclaimed, "I came here to say thank you, for telling them. It's nice to get it off my chest," As much as I hated it Basil was right, it was better to get it off my chest than live in a lie.

"I heard Kel is coming to the hospital after school today," Basil informed me. I was confused as to why, I played the words in my head again, "Sunny you're- you're joking right?" Why would Kel want to see him after that? "Why would he want to come see us?" I asked Basil, he responded with a shrug, "You can ask him later, I have to go back to my room, oh and sorry about the eye," Basil had apologized about the eye several times this week, "Basil it's fine don't worry about it," I had to remind him almost every day. Basil shot him a smile before walking back to his room.

Kel's POV

It had been a week since Sunny had told us the truth. At first I thought it was a joke but when Sunny insisted it was true, I wasn't mad. But Hero and Aubrey were. . . a different story. After Hero realized it was true he left with out another word. He has been holed up in his room every since, Aubrey started yelling at Sunny and Basil but then she broke down crying and ran away. I ran after them leaving Sunny and Basil in Basil's hospital room. I was going to see them sooner but, I think I have been avoiding it. I have finally decided to go visit them today after school. Aubrey doesn't think I should have been so forgiving but I don't think they meant to kill Mari right?

I arrived at the hospital after school and walked towards Basil's room first. He was sitting in his bed reading a book on planting that Polly gave him. "Hey Basil," I said awkwardly as I came inside. "Oh you're here, hello Kel!" Basil smiled placing a bookmark in his book and placing it on the bed. I walked closer to Basil's bed, "hey Basil how ya feeling?" I asked skeptically. "I'm feeling really better the nurse said I could leave the hospital in two days! I can't go back to school til next week though," Basil told me with excitement in his voice. "That's great! When you do come out you might wanna avoid Aubrey. She isn't -" I was cut off by Basil saying "I figured. . ." Then there was this awkward silence. I always seem to forget that Aubrey has known Basil longer than everyone else.

"So what kind of plants are you going to start growing?" I asked hoping to change the topic, "Well since the summer is over and it's September the weather is going to get colder so it's not the best time to have plants. I am considering planting pumpkins though," Basil explained his face beaming.

"Hey Basil my nurse just gave me a cherry Jello cup do you want to trade me your blue raspberry one for my-" I looked over and saw that Sunny was standing in the door way holding a cherry Jello container. I gave him a small wave but he just looked away.
