Harry dives for the snitch, his arms and legs tucked tightly, making himself as aerodynamic as possible, his arm darting out at the last minute to grab the snitch…
But he's missed it. Draco Malfoy is on top of him and for a moment they are a flurry of limbs, grabbing and shoving, Draco's lean body pressed against Harry's. Harry can tell that Draco isn't even trying to catch the snitch; he's trying to keep Harry from catching it. Which is a valid enough strategy since Harry was closer to the snitch, but he can't suppress a groan of frustration.
And then they are snitch is nowhere to be seen. Harry sighs and starts looking for the thing again. Gryffindor is up by twenty points which from a Seeker's perspective means they're effectively tied.
Draco Malfoy has always played rough for a Seeker. He's always played the game very physically, not afraid to get in the other players' personal space, not even afraid to grab Harry or to elbow him in the ribs when the referee isn't looking. Git. And yet Harry has to confess to himself that he's always preferred playing against people with a more aggressive play style. It makes the game more thrilling, a dive to the death for the snitch.
It's their last game of eighth year, so they probably won't be playing against one another again. Harry's gaze goes back to Draco and for some reason, he's reminded of their flight from the fiendfyre, of Draco clinging desperately to his back.
Harry's eyes are drawn suddenly to movement near Draco's head. The snitch. It's fluttering next to Draco, less than a foot to his right. Harry hesitates, wanting to go for the snitch, but also afraid of alerting Draco to its presence. Draco locks eyes with him and a moment later, his face scrunches up. Harry realizes that he's noticed the snitch. His head hasn't turned in the least, but the movement, the flutter of little gold wings, must have tipped him off.
Draco's hand darts out, lightning-quick, and closes around the snitch. His eyes never leave Harry's as the Slytherin side of the field erupts in cheers.
