Chapter 1: the sale

Summary:

you meet your new owners and explore your new home

Chapter Text

You woke up to the sound of your mom shouting. “Y/n! Get out of bed! Your new owners are here!”

You blinked a few times as you got out of bed. Your… new owners? What did that mean? Mom was probably just spouting her usual drunk bullshit. It was fine. You were used to it.

You quickly got dressed, wearing a band T-shirt for your favorite band—Void—and some jean shorts. When you were halfway down the stairs, you saw your mother. She slapped you.

“Grab your things, Y/n,” she said. “I’m selling you.”

Now that she was so close, you could tell she wasn’t drunk, or high. The only thing in her mouth was a ciggy. She was serious. Even though she never really loved you, the fact that she was giving you away hurt, almost as bad as the slap on your cheek. You couldn’t cry, though. You didn’t want to show her any weakness.

“Will my new owners be providing clothes?” you asked. She nodded.

“Clothes, deodorant, all the necessities. If you’re sentimental, though, grab whatever doohickeys and thingamabobs you want.”

You ran back up to your room. You grabbed your phone, but not your charger. You shoved it in your pocket before grabbing a bag. It had the logo of your second favorite band, Melody Rhythm, on it. You tossed your Hatsune Miku plush in, but couldn’t think of anything else to grab, until you looked at your dresser.

On your dresser sat the only picture you had of your father, one taken before the accident. It was the toddler you, him, and your mother, back when she was young and not high or drunk all the time. You were sitting on his shoulders, both of you laughing and giggling. Your mother looked at both of you with love in her eyes… Love you couldn’t remember.

Love that hadn’t been there for years.

You took the picture out of its frame, and tore it. Now, only you and your father were in the picture. You put it back in its frame, gently putting it in your bag.

You put in your wallet, too, along with some candy you bought yesterday, and a ciggy you stole from your mom.

What else could you take? What else mattered?

“Y/n! They’re here!” your mother shouted.

It was time to go.

You clomped downstairs, but when you finally arrived in the family room, the people you saw were people you never would have expected.

Six people, all from one band.

“You sold me to Void?!”

It was rather awkward being in the van with them all after your little outburst… Or maybe it was just awkward for you. After all, Emma, Iroha, and Mikado were playing Rock-Paper-Scissors together in the middle row, while Ai and Nikei were bickering in the back. You were in passenger seat, while Hajime drove.

“I’m sorry for freaking out earlier,” you mumbled, hoping Hajime wouldn’t hear you. Unfortunately, he did. He turned to you with concern glinting in his sunglasses.

“Don’t be, L/n-san. Your mom just sold you to one of the most famous bands in Japan for drug money. I don’t blame you for being surprised… In all honesty, you’re taking this really well.”

You blushed. “Ah, you mean that?”

“Yeah, for sure. I mean, when my parents abandoned me, I was a lot less composed,” he said, chuckling. “But here you are, staying so calm, even discussing it calmly. Can’t say I’m not jealous.”

“You? Jealous of me?” you asked. It seemed unbelievable. You mean, this was Makunouchi Hajime! He had it all—boxing talent, singing talent, gorgeous physique… You couldn’t even imagine what his life must be like.

“I mean, not the druggie mom or human trafficking part, but you must be pretty mentally strong to be taking this so well,” he explained. “Besides, you’re totally Nikei’s type.”

Your cheeks heated up hotter than the sun, and your voice cracked as you shouted, “What?!”

Iroha was the one to escort you to your room.

“W-we’ll be sharing a room, actually,” she said, her soft voice echoing through the ginormous halls of the Void mansion. “I hope you don’t mind. Mister Utsuro made sure there’s two beds.”

“Wait, who’s Mister Utsuro?” you asked. Iroha squeaked.

“He’s our manager! He’s the one who decided to buy you, actually,” she explained. “Mister Utsuro is really good at getting people out of bad situations. He saved me, Emma, Nikei, Mikado, and Hajime from our hells… I guess buying you was his way of saving you.”

“Huh,” you said. This Utsuro guy didn’t sound half-bad. “That was nice of him.”

“Mmhm,” Iroha said. She stopped at a door with rainbows painted on it. “This is our room.”

You raised in eyebrow, looking at all the rainbows on it. “I can tell.”

She blushed. “If you want me to repaint it, I can!”

“No, no, it’s cute!” you said, desperately waving your arms as a sign of surrender. “I like it, I swear!”

She breathed a sigh of relief. “Phew… Mister Utsuro’s friend, Otori Teruya, helped me paint it. Teruya-kun’s my best friend, besides the other members of Void, of course.”

You nodded. “Well, can you unlock it, Nijue-san?”

She let out a shriek, fumbling around in her pockets for the key. “Y-y-yes!” For some reason, her face looked weird… Kinda like hiragana? When you blinked, it went back to normal. “U-um, you can unpack, I’ll go get Mister Utsuro.”

“Okay,” you replied, and quickly got to work.

“You’re L/n Y/n?” asked a tall redhead man.

“Ah, y-yes, sir,” you said, quickly turning off your phone. “Are you Utsuro-san?”

He nodded. “Yeah, that’s me. Are you settling in okay?”

“I mean, I feel kind of awkward, but I’m fine otherwise, I guess…,” you said. “Void is my favorite band, so it’s kind of weird to be interacting with them all in person.”

Utsuro nodded again. “I see. Dinner is in ten minutes. I made macaroni and cheese. Come down whenever you’re ready.”

“Okay, Utsuro-san.”

I came down about thirty minutes later. By then, the only people left at the table were Utsuro and Nikei.

“Oh, hey, L/n,” Nikei said, looking up at you before getting back to… whatever he was writing in that notebook of his.

“Hey, Yomiuri-kun,” you replied. “What are you writing?”

“A fanfic where Ai gets eaten by a shark,” he grumbled. Utsuro made a sound that might have been a laugh, but just as easily might have been choking on his macaroni.

“You got into another fight?” he asked. Nikei nodded glumly.

“He was teasing me about my relationship with Mikado. I don’t get it, we’re not even dating! We’re just really close friends!”

Utsuro made the choke-laugh sound again.

“Geez, I’m sorry,” you said, offering sympathy since Utsuro clearly wouldn’t. “That sucks ass.”

He chuckled. “Sure does. Eh, no biggie, we fight all the time, but still… It’s annoying, I hate that bitch.”

“Damn,” you replied. He seemed to take that as his cue to leave.

You finished my mac’n’cheese in record time, but Utsuro stopped you before you could leave the dining room. “Y/n, you’re on dishes tonight with Emma.”

“Okay,” you said.

Emma would not stop telling puns.

Seriously, where was she getting all of them?! It was crazy! No wonder Hajime always seemed so frustrated with her pn livestreams!

“Why do zombies prefer to eat Italian?” Emma asked. You groaned.

“Please, Magorobi-san,” you begged.

“They prefer to eat a fresh noodle!” she said, and then broke out in laughter.

Luckily, that was when Mikado came in.

“Emma, are you torturing L/n-san with puns?” he asked. Emma giggled.

“Maaaybe~”

“Alright, get out, I’m doing your dishes tonight,” he said. Emma grinned.

“Yippee!”

Mikado rolled up his sleeves and pushed his glasses up his nose.

“Sorry about Emma,” he said. “She really is kind-hearted, she just doesn’t know when to stop.”

“No, no, it’s fine,” you said. “I shouldn’t have complained so much.”

“Believe me, after ten minutes with Emma’s puns, you have a right to pull a trigger,” Mikado deadpanned. You laughed.

“I don’t think the authorities will see it that way.”

Finally, right before you went to bed, Ai stopped me in the halls. His mask was carved in an angry expression.

“Listen to me,” he said. “Void is my family, you got that? If you ever do anything to hurt them, well… You won’t like it.”

You shivered at the protective tone in his voice. “Believe me, I would never do anything to hurt them.”

“Hmph. You may have them all fooled, but I know you’re not as carefree as you seem,” he said. “Someday, you’ll snap, and make them take care of you.”

“Wh-what?!”

“You’ll crack under the stress, and guilt them into becoming your adoring servants, losing all their own free will to take care of you,” he elaborated. “But mark my words, L/n Y/n… When that happens, I won’t hesitate to get rid of you.”

I gulped. “C-can I just go to bed now?”

He made a growl-y sound, his mask’s eye narrowing. “Fine.”
