"Aerial, I don't know how to be a groom!" Suletta's voice bounced back at her inside her Gundam’s cockpit. She grabbed the sides of her head and rustled her hair between her fingers. "It feels like such a big responsibility!"
Suletta curled in closer to herself, face now buried in her knees. She always ran to the comfort of Aerial whenever she had a problem. She knew she could have called her mother, but she didn’t want to make it awkward, or her mother would tease her until she couldn’t stand the embarrassment.
She pressed her face harder into her legs until a soft hum buzzed around her. She slowly looked up to see the display in front of her flare to life. A soft blue light illuminated her face and threw shadows around the cockpit. She stared, dumbfounded, as a strange article opened.
The borders of it felt somewhat tacky and brightly colored. Advertisements screamed for her attention on the one side. Though most importantly, her eyes soon locked onto the title of said article: How to Be the Perfect Groom.
"That's it!" Suletta shot upright. She tried to grab the panel the website was displayed on only to grasp air, completely forgetting it was being shown on Aerial’s monitor. "Thank you, Aerial!"
Suletta began to frantically scan the words written before her. Some felt like they were common sense to her, like treating your bride well, being polite, and so on. Then some of them felt so simple in the grand scheme of things. Ones like showing her small gestures of affection and words of affirmation.
"I can do that…" she whispered. "That's easy."
She clapped the sides of her face to finish off her pep talk. She smiled, closed the window, then lightly placed her hand on the main control panel to Aerial.
"Thank you," Suletta said again. She tapped a few buttons on the touch screen to pop open the cockpit. She stood to jump out with newfound confidence. "I'll be the best groom you've ever seen!"
The smell of soil was strong when Suletta approached the now familiar greenhouse. Thanks to Miorine, she could now recognize most of the plants that grew inside.
She could point out the usual tomatoes, what she believed were spring onions, and the tops of carrots poking out from the dirt. As she scanned the produce, her eyes finally fell onto who she was looking for.
Miorine knelt down in front of the plants with the most gentle look Suletta had ever seen on her face. Suletta noticed that she held a small watering can in her hands. With intense precision, she tilted the can and poured water from it in even increments between each plant.
Suletta, however, couldn't tear her eyes away from Miorine's profile. Something about her silent devotion to caring for her crops made a spark of warmth quickly start to envelop her chest.
A small smile pulled on her lips. Before she could talk herself out of it, Suletta leaned in and pecked Miorine's cheek.
Miorine jolted and dropped the watering can with a loud clatter. Something between shock and anger replaced the calm expression she wore just moments ago.
“What are you doing?” Miorine exclaimed.
“Oh, uh…” Suletta awkwardly scratched at her cheek. She hurriedly looked down towards her feet. Her mouth suddenly felt extremely dry and she struggled to form a single sentence. “I-I heard that this is something a groom is supposed to do.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Miorine frown. For a brief moment, she thought maybe she did something wrong.
Suddenly, Miorine’s hands shot out and grabbed the front of Suletta’s uniform.Suletta stumbled forward, barely able to keep herself from tripping, and instead had Miorine crashing their lips together.
Suletta’s eyes widened in shock. She could feel her face immediately light on fire with a deep blush. Her heart thudded against her ribs and drowned out any other noise that may have been around her.
Part of her wanted to lean into the sudden kiss and savor the strange sweetness, but before she could, Miorine pulled back just as quickly as she had leaned in.
Suletta could only stand in stunned silence, hands over her mouth in pleasant shock. The kiss only lasted a moment, but with how breathless she felt, she would have believed it had been an eternity.
"If you're going to kiss me," Miorine met Suletta’s eyes then hurriedly looked away. "Do it properly."
Suletta could see the beginnings of a blush starting to form on Miorine's cheeks- a stark contrast to how much her own burned.
Despite that, the only thing running around inside her head was how cute she found Miorine in that moment.
Suletta couldn't help herself as she stepped up to Miorine then wrapped her arms around the other's waist. She gave her a nervous smile.
“So does that mean I can k… Kiss you?”
Miorine hummed then lightly placed her hands against Sulleta’s shoulders. Suletta couldn’t help but smile wider when Miorine gripped her jacket again.
“Like I said,” Miorine started while she leaned in a bit closer. “Only if you do it properly.”
Suletta looked back and forth between Miorine’s lips and her eyes. Her heart continued to pound in her chest to the point it felt like it began to hurt. In a way, her chest did ache, but for Miorine. She unwound one of her arms from her waist only to cradle Miorine’s cheek in her palm.
The slight blush from before still lingered and made Miorine’s skin feel warm. She couldn’t help but notice how soft it also felt. Suletta’s thumb barely brushed the corner of Miorine’s mouth before she went in for another kiss.
This time felt far sweeter than the hurried kiss from before. A calm stillness surrounded her. The thudding within her chest slowed to a crawl. All that mattered to her in that moment was the smell of the soil and the taste of Miorine’s lips.
And in that moment, she knew she was where she belonged.
