Chapter Text
Being born into a muggle family, Hyunjin knew that life in Hogwarts wouldn't be as honey-sweet as it is to others. Especially when he as a muggle-born was sorted into Slytherin.
When he found out that he is not what he believed he is his whole life, Hyunjin had to find out, what were wizards? How do they do magic? What is the magical school he is about to get enrolled in and what values does each of the houses carry?
Reading about the Slytherin house made his insides churn. A whole muggle-hating house, that must be just lovely.
However what he did not expect, was his biggest struggle being not a muggle-born, not even sorted into Slytherin, but his three dorm mates he ought to live with for the next 7 years.
Even as a 12-year-old first-year, Hyunjin was a very neat, precise, and quiet person. He very much appreciated his time alone, perhaps while reading a book or drawing. His parents called him the little artist, even though as a young teenager he had outgrown his mother in height.
So imagine his great disappointment when he is met with the three very messy, loud, and overall chaotic dorm mates.
Each year on the first of September as he walks towards the door to his room, he always hopes that maybe this year he won't have the three as his roommates.
But his hopes are crushed as he opens the door and is met with the three guys, Chan, Jisung, and Changbin.
Yet this year is no different. Hyunjin is already in his seventh year at Hogwarts. He walks up the stairs muttering 'please please please’ and almost trips on his way. As always he slowly opens the door.
"Jinnie!" Jisung yells as Hyunjin reveals himself.
Now Hyunjin doesn't hate his roommates; he is pretty fond of them, but that doesn't change the fact that they are impossible to live with.
"Hello, Jisung." He says with a small smile, trying to ignore the candy wrappers on Jisung's bed.
"We got short on snacks so Binnie and Channie went to grab some more." Jisung explains as Hyunjin examines the room.
"But we just had a feast in the great hall?" Hyunjin says confused.
"There can never be too many sweets!" Jisung says with a grin and Hyunjin sighs. You can't argue with that logic.
Hyunjin plops on his bed and smiles as his body is engulfed by the soft mattress. He missed this place, maybe not the mess, but it's alright he can live with that.
Hyunjin hears the door opening and is about to turn around, but is too late as a body crashes on top of him.
Nevermind. Maybe he can not live with that.
"Hyunjinnie!" Changbin cries out as he hugs the other tightly. "Our little artist is back!"
"I am a head taller than you." Hyunjin muffles out.
"Good thing I can't hear you!" Changbin exclaims and Chan giggles in the background. Hyunjin is almost sure that Changbin heard him.
“How was your summer Hyunjin?” Chan asks and Changbin lets Hyunjin out of his grasp, but only for Hyunjin to sit up and be engulfed in a hug once again.
“It was nice, I spent a lot of time with Seungmin, he got his driver's license so we had many road trips, I also spent time with my family, we went on a trip around Europe," Hyunjin tells shortly reliving his summer activities.
Seungmin is Hyunjin's childhood friend, he's also a muggle. When Hyunjin had to leave for Hogwarts, it was hard to explain why they couldn't communicate by phone, as well as why he had an owl or a whole cauldron in the middle of his room, so eventually he had to come out, both as gay and a wizard.
Thankfully Seungmin has always been supportive of Hyunjin and the fact that he's a wizard doesn't change it one bit.
"Ah I wish to go on a road trip, those sound like so much fun!" Jisung says, pouting a bit.
Jisung is a pureblood and while his parents are not against muggle-borns, they never understood why they would need muggle things.
"Maybe one day you'll be able to Sungie, you have your whole lifetime to experience muggle things, I must say, driving is not as exciting as it may seem," Hyunjin says and gives a small smile to the other.
"Maybe we could all go on a road trip!" Changbin exclaims and Jisung widens his eyes in excitement.
"That would be so much fun!"
Hyunjin wonders to himself if it really would be fun. It definitely would not be boring, but it would also be very loud and Hyunjin is not the biggest fan of loudness.
They spend the rest of the evening discussing their summers and what fun activities they should try together.
Hyunjin finds out that Chan spent his summer in quidditch practices and camps while Changbin who's also really into quidditch, actually took a break from it and instead spent time with his family. Jisung is the only one from the trio who does not like quidditch because of his fear of heights and during the summer he created new prank ideas and items, which scares the shit out of Hyunjin.
The next morning it takes Hyunjin three alarms to wake up and when he finally does wake up, he sees only one bed unpreoccupied.
The room is still dark, because of the curtains, but the light peeking out of them is enough for him to see the robes thrown on the floor and Changbin's bed being unmade, the rest of the beds are covered by canopies.
He lazily gets out of bed, careful to not wake up the two sleeping boys, quickly grabs a towel from his chest, and heads to the dorm bathroom.
He walks into a room that looks exactly like it looked 50 years ago, white tiles everywhere, water dispensers that wouldn't work now if it wasn't for magic, and a row of five sinks that all have engraved snakes on the sides.
He hears water get turned off in one of the showers stalls and soon a figure appears in front of his view. It's Changbin with a towel wrapped around his waist and water dripping from his hair.
Hyunjin isn't sure when Changbin started to gain muscles, he never really paid that much attention to it, but suddenly now that the guy stood right in front of him with his body on full display, he couldn't help the red that appeared on his cheeks.
"Oh, good morning!" Changbin greets him with a smile.
"Morning." Hyunjin squeaks.
"You're up early." He continues after regaining his dignity.
"Oh yeah, I did a bit of work out," Changbin says and goes to the sink to brush his teeth.
"Oh, that makes sense," Hyunjin says and with a last glance at Changbin's figure jumps into one of the stalls.
While Hyunjin is on his way to their room after washing up, he meets Chan who is on his way to the showers and they exchange a quick "morning".
As he enters the room he sees a now-dressed Changbin shaking poor Jisung.
Jisung has to be the soundest sleeper of them all because even with all that shaking Jisung is barely awake.
He blinks slowly and looks at the other two figures in the room.
"What time is it?" Jisung says almost in a whisper. Hyunjin glances at the clock on the bedside table before answering.
"It's 8:30 am, we have to go eat breakfast," Hyunjin answers.
"I don't want to eat breakfast, I'll sleep," Jisung says already hiding his head under his blanket.
"But you'll be starving during the lessons, come on Sungie get up," Changbin says and takes the blanket away from Jisung.
"Nooo! My blanket! So cold!" Jisung cries out and Hyunjin lets out a laugh.
"Like Changbin said, you'll be starving, so get up you big baby, go clean up and have breakfast!" Hyunjin commands and Jisung grunts.
Unwillingly the smaller boy gets up and heads to the bathroom.
"Let's go eat?" Changbin asks and Hyunjin nods.
The great hall is filled with chatter and clinking of utensils. The air is filled with the warmth and smell of freshly cooked eggs, bacon, oatmeal, and tea.
Hyunjin sits down and feels his tummy grumble at the emptiness in it, so he quickly puts food on his dish and sees Changbin do the same.
"What's the first class?" Changbin asks with a mouth stuffed with eggs and toast. Hyunjin makes a face before answering.
"Potions."
"My favourite lesson!" Changbin exclaims and almost chokes. Hyunjin slides the cup of water closer to him and Changbin gladly drinks it.
"It is?" Hyunjin asks surprised, Changbin wasn't exceptionally good at positions, in fact, Hyunjin had to always help him out.
"Yes! You always help me with it! I could never fail it with you by my side!" Changbin says with a charming smile.
"Right, that's why I hate potions," Hyunjin says with a poker face and laughs when Changbin's smile drops.
"I'm joking! Don't worry, it's only second on my worst class list."
"You're so cruel," Changbin says with no real bite, and Hyunjin smiles.
"Only for you baby."
