Work Text:

The last thing I remember is driving on a deserted wooded highway. One second I’m driving my car, the next I’m laying on dirt in a place I can’t recognize. I’m bleeding from my right arm, my car nowhere in sight. I look at my surroundings, noting everything I saw. We were in a wooded area, with red brick houses and stores around. It looked like it was late evening. I saw no one around me. There were wooden boards on the windows, and all the lights were off. I try to get up, and I see a small glass shard in my arm. I pulled it out and threw it on the ground. I saw a small blue flip phone. The screen was cracked and the battery wasn’t in, so I put it down.
I start walking around the town, seeing no one. I start running forward to find someone. The farther I get, The more empty buildings I see. I saw an open door so I walked up to it and walked in. The door was loose, and it almost fell off the hinges.
As I walked further in the house, the weirder it got. The foyer looked like someone smashed the bricks with a hammer. The chandelier was on the ground, smashed to pieces. As I looked around the foyer, I thought it was just abandoned. As soon as I turned around to leave, I heard something move. I froze, locked in place from fear. A few seconds later, I heard a music box turn on. It was the tune of happy birthday. I then looked down, and saw a cake with a message written in icing.
“Good Luck, Tom & Joe!”. I ran out of the house, and started to hear incomprehensible noises. I run in the trees, and keep running. I end up on a short cliff after running up a hill. I look around the town from the top, and I see a light.
It was the brightest thing in the town, and wasn’t that far away. I start running down the hill and run down the streets. The sun had gone down by now, and it was getting cold.
I was getting close to it, and the closer I got the less buildings I was running past. I turned the corner, and saw what the light came from.
I see a blinding sign. It was a Waffle House. I looked through the window, and saw no one inside except one employee. I walk in and she looks at me. I take a look at her and sit down. It was the cleanest Waffle House I’ve been in. It was spotless. I looked around, and there wasn’t anyone. The Waffle House looked fairly normal other than that.
“Hello Ma’am, do you need a menu”
“Sure, but could I ask you where we are.”.After I said that she looked shocked for a split second, and seemed more nervous.
“You know, this time you’re eating here in the house. I’ll get you my favorites.”
“Uh, alright.”.She turned around to cook the food. I looked at the clock, and saw nothing. The clock had no hands. I looked at the door to the bathroom and it said, “Under Construction”.
“And there we go! I doubt anyone else is coming so I’ll eat too.”. I looked at her funny and she sat across from me. The food looked great. I took a bite of the waffle first. I was the best fucking waffle I have ever had in my life. Not undercooked, not burnt, it was just right. She put the perfect amount of syrup on for me and it was amazing. Is this even Waffle House or her recipe? The eggs weren’t rubbery, and the hashbrowns were great. I then noticed her staring at me.
“Who are you and where am I?”. She slid me some car keys and slipped a piece of paper with her phone number.
“Call me when you wake up”. I ran out the door and unlocked her car. I started the car and started driving down the street. I get into a forest and keep driving. I get to a sharp turn and my brakes aren’t working. I try to jump out of the car but I crash down a hill and flip around until I get knocked out.
I am dead. I am dead. I fucking died because of this shit. GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!
