When the sun comes down the painted glass

Summary:

Himari was a girl born ready to be a hero.
Raised by her house staff, Himari is a well-civilized girl, morals were set high in her mind as her house only taught her kindness. Although growing up alone, she never blamed her father for never being home, he was a hero in her eyes- a doctor saving the mightiest of japans ranked heroes. In the public eye- he was just another doctor, not a hero.
Giving herself time to shine at U.As entrance exam- Himari would have to rise to the ranks to place herself on top, not only for herself but to give her father's name the glory it deserved.
Unwavering through her trials will she make it to the ranks when her abilities are finally challenged?

[Himari is voiced by Mikako Komatsu, the voice of JJKs Maki Zenin and Avery Smithhart, the voice of Land of the Lustrous' Cinnabar]

Chapter 1: One

Chapter Text

Quirk: [Mana manipulation] Mana is a source of energy that comes from one's body- having the ability to manipulate mana can mean several things;  expansion, making objects or people disappear (invisibility), and the ability to use one's mana to create a physical source of mana that can be makeshift into anything or anyone. Ability to recolor mana once a physical object has been made- mana appears like crystalized watercolor, more glass-like appearance.

Drawbacks will include; when using one's mana there is a select timeframe between objects- each object will last 5 minutes and will have to wait 60 seconds until the next one can be created. Mana can only be stolen by life objects- humans, animals, trees, plants, etc. if stolen by objects such as a rock or item of any use- it will soon disappear into mana particles and be returned to the user. use of one mana and create fatigue, nausea, migraines, and more. Tips of fingers begin to appear translucent which hurts like pins and needles- feels like a ghost limb (when a limb still feels like it hurts although the part of the body has been cut off).

__________

It was a cold, cold morning that Yusei Himari woke up to, she didn’t want to get up from her bed, but who else was going to feed the house cats before her exam? She scurried out of her bed quickly, black sweats clinging onto her hips as she stretched and pulled on her long sleeve. She rubbed her eyes and pulled off the hair tie that was making her wrist itch, to pull her dark brown locks together as she walked down the hallway of her home. House staff warmly welcomed her back to the land of the living- thanks to them, she had finally become a morning person- after 15 years of hard struggling, they were able to convince her that nothing was better than cold crystallizing air in your lungs, blowing on some hot tea, her favorite staff member had brewed for her.

Akira was an older man, nearing his early 40’s- her father's best friend, a man who would give his life for the girl in front of her that shimmied her shoulders as she took another sip of her earl gray tea, a clear sign that she was satisfied. “Akira-san, you really outdo yourself every single day, thank you for this tea.” Although blind- Akira was graced by god to have a quirk that would help him see through this blindness, only a shy outline of everything black and gray. “I am glad to be at your service… Hurry now- I don’t want you yelling at me because you decided to be late.” He lightly scolded, picking up the now-clean saucer that he had given her with a semi-sweet pastry. He could hear her eyes rolling to the back of her head, “Just because you're blind-” Himari sipped her tea quickly, “-doesn’t mean you get to get away with being a bully. I can kick your butt old man.” Although snarky, she spoke truthfully. She had been able to defeat him a couple of times when they spar but it was once every blood moon, but she was starting to pick up the habit- as of last month, she had struck him down twice, a new record for her. “May I remind you that  I have wiped the floor clean with you…” Staring off at a distance she could feel that annoying smirk of his, “Friendly reminder that you have 5 minutes until you must get changed, clothes will be ready on the bed.” He sensed her nod, a sign for him to leave and give her the peace and quiet she's been yearning for since he handed her the tea. He placed a paper note in front of her,  written by her father every morning, stroking the top of her head gently, knowing that although she was happy- she was always lonely. It was a gesture of kindness- one that he's always shown her, never letting her be as lonely as she thought she was. “He tried to be here today, but you know how he is…” His words drifted off sadly, pressing his lips on the crown of her head.

Himari drifted her eyes to the side as she watched him disappear into the hall. She was alone now. She quickly picked up her note, read it, and put it back down on the table. “Another sorry letter…” She sighed in disappointment. Himari clung to herself for a moment, reminding her that it was never his fault- he was a hero… This is what heroes do. She cleared her throat and took the final sip of her tea and swiftly checked the time before rushing back into her room to change into something more flexible.

__________

When Kyota, Yusei’s personal driver dropped her off at her destination- she handed the girl a duffle bag with extra clothes, vitamins, instant tea, bandaids, and more. “If you come back home with broken bones- you’ll be shamed off the grounds, with me doing the shaming.” Himari laughed, snatching the bag of her hands roughly, causing her to bang her head on the roof of the car

“OW!” She yelped

“Idiot…” Kyota giggled, reaching over to hover her hand over her head to perform Reiki- a spiritual form of healing that she excelled at. Himari muttered something under her breath, “Thanks Kyo-san… I’ll text you if I decide to ride the train and stop near home.” The driver nodded, watching the girl gently swing the door close. She rolled the window while moving slightly forward, “-Good luck Himari, kick their lame asses!” Kyota yelled- Himari growing bright red with the stares she began to collect. The world was punishing her, she thought, groaning out loud. Out of all of her staff, which consisted of five- Kyota was the more ballsy and outspoken. The driver made a deal with the girl that she would no longer treat her as a child the day she turned 15- creating a swearing monster under the Yusei household. It took Akira months of pleading and begging for the young Himari girl to stop swearing.

“Fine- it’s not even that fun saying it, I just liked pissing you off… It was funny.” The memory lingered in her mind for a second before a hard shoulder almost bumped her to the side of the road- luckily she held onto the green-looking figure. “I am so sorry!” A boy pleaded- his head bowing down, like a paddle ball. Funny-looking boy , she thought to herself. “P- Please stop bowing you’re just gonna make me feel worse…” The greenette shot up straight, an attempt of murder as he almost knocked his head against hers, she was quick enough to back up and look at him wide-eyed. “I apologize!” He said more quietly, a faint yell maybe. “-my name is Midoriya Izuku, nice to meet you.” Midoriya bowed politely this time, Himari following along. “Midoriya, it is nice to meet you. The name is Yusei Himari.”

The pretty girl in front of him talked more casually than he expected her to, he saw her being dropped off by what looked like a privately tinted vehicle. There was something humbling about her- her wealth didn’t reflect on the way she spoke to people, didn’t reflect who she was as a person. Midoriya found that refreshing. “I’m assuming you’re here for the entrance exam?” He nodded vigorously, a smile creeping onto his lips as well as hers.

He was so proud and nervous at the same time, what a weird combination- she thought.

“Cool- we’ll walk together then… or are you going to try and push me off the road again?” Her question was serious and Midoriya panicked, “-No! Not at all!” He muttered through his words, relief settling in when she blurted out laughing. She patted his shoulder, slowly starting to head ahead of the greenette. “Gods! You’re too easy… Come on now, don’t want you falling behind.”  Midoriya was quick to catch up to her and start a conversation. Himari answered in nods, one-worded answers, and the occasional “I see…” as he boasted about his training- maybe Himari shouldn’t have asked such an encouraging question when he noted that he has been training for the past year-ish. He kept muttering more and more until the words came in one ear and out the other to Himari. “-As much as I love hearing about your training… I’d like to ask a question.” Midoriya finally quieted down as they entered the lard door in front of them that led into an ensemble of chairs. “If you’re struggling so hard with your quirk, why would you even consider becoming a hero?” The question came out rather harshly. Midoriya began to think that this could be an intimidation tactic to make him feel small, but her concerned stare told him otherwise. With a deep breath in, Midoriya was a second away from answering the questions when a pair of bright red eyes met his “-Kacchan! You’re here!''His voice heightening startled Himari, as her brown eyes skimmed the blonde who went by Kacchan . “Beat it, nerd! Move out of the way!” His booming voice made both the greenette and brunette grimace. How rude, she thought.

 “Hey Asshole-”

“What did you just call me?!” The blonde turned around quickly, making Midoriya yelp, jumping behind Yusei. “ Asshole . Are you hard of hearing? Deaf maybe? Watch where you’re going next time.” Young Himari grabbed Midoriya by his bag and dragged him along, her face turning red- she just stood up to someone who she immediately found attractive but was disappointed by his behavior, she felt like she was on top of the world… but having his ruby eyes on her as she matched away, made her skin crawl.

“What’s his problem?” Himari whispered as she forced Midoriya gently into his seat before sitting beside him. “You called him Kacchan, is that his name or-?” He cut her off holding an X up with his arms “Don't call him that or he’ll come to attack us!” He whisper and yelled to her. “His name is Bakugou Katsuki, he used to be my childhood friend… best friend maybe- but now he’s just a bully.” His words softened towards the end, and Himari could tell that their lost friendship had made him upset. “-I’m sorry I brought it up. If he gives you any trouble- let me know.” She handed him a personal card, her name and number were on the card- as well as an email. “T-thanks.” He muttered, cheeks almost blushing, shoving it into his pocket quickly before tensing up again as the same blonde walked an aisle behind them, sitting in the seat directly behind Himari. “Keep looking at me and you’ll die.” The blonde seared through his teeth, his whole body leaning towards lady Yusei. Knowing that quirks weren’t allowed out in public, Himari did what came to her naturally and pressed the palm of her hand on his face- “Get that close to my face again and I’m gonna think you’re gonna wanna kiss me, you pervert.”

“SAY THAT TO ME AGAIN, I DARE YOU!”

Himari was ready to pounce off her chair until Midoriya beat her to it, “Kacchan we’re in public, please! She a stranger she’s just-”

“She’s an extra! That’s what she is!” His ruby eyes darted at her, “You get in my way, and you’re dead.” Somehow- this threat was calmer than his other ones. Himari gulped, facing forward, toward the large auditorium as they announced that they would be starting shortly.

__________

After the rules had been announced, the attendees of the acceptance examination scurried off to change into their more flexible outfits when Himari was already ready- she was the first one waiting for the doors to open until she wasn’t and hundreds of attendees swarmed around her. Her eyes locked on a pair of familiar red ones and she quickly whipped her head back to the dull-looking door. She hated when attractive people had ugly personalities, a waste of a good man. Himari laughed to herself, what in the world was she going to do if she passed and those two were in her class- she wasn't ready for the possibilities that were ahead.

Little did she know that the second those doors opened her whole life was about to change. She had dreamed of this moment and Himari wasn’t gonna let anyone stop her. The boy with the blonde hair she had met early was going to be a clear challenge, should she swallow her pride and team up with him? No- absolutely not, she thought. She was going to win- and win alone, regardless of the new friendship she had just made in the auditorium. Himari eyed the corner where the blonde once stood, but his blonde locks were nowhere to be found. She raised a brow- where must he have gone? With a quick glance around, Himari made sure that no one was looking at her before she triggered her quirk- his mana was more loud and vibrant than most, a loud shade of orange melted all around him. Although his ugly attitude, he was warm- a personality he was obviously hiding.

Himari shot her head up. The clear presence of his mana was inches behind her. She tensed up and he noticed.

Bakugou rose a brow to himself, looking down at her petite figure- she was not taller than 160 centimeters. Before the brunette in front of him tensed up, he noticed that her eyes were no longer the shade of chocolate brown that he notice but pure white and it irked him.

Was her quirk the cause of the sudden change? Was she looking around for him? Why? Did she know he was now lingering quietly behind her? A swarm of questions entered Bakugou’s thoughts, he would have to figure it out on his own- she didn't seem the type to give out her secrets freely. He kept himself steady with the sea of people around him. Bunch of extras , he thought- people he didn't deem strong enough to be near his vicinity. As a larger swarm began to erode into the hall, someone who clearly wasn’t paying attention shoved Bakugou's chest onto her back, “Watch where you’re stepping, loser!”

Himari tensed up. Again with the yelling , she thought. She peered over her shoulder, to catch him already staring.

“What are you looking at?”

“Nothing!”

She almost squealed- although confrontational in the auditorium, it was different when she was defending someone else, not just herself.

“Pathetic. I thought maybe you’d put out more of a fight.”

The word lingered in her thoughts. Pathetic . The word made her blood boil.

As if on cue, Present Mic- the announcer in the auditorium yelled vigorously into his microphone for all kids to hear. “The entrance exam starts now!” The giant doors in front of her began to open, all the attendance rushing to get through in confusion “-Watcha think?! You’d get a countdown?! There’s no countdown for pro heroes in this world! GO! GO! GO!”

Bakugou was jolted back when Hinami stretched out her pair of wings, getting ahead of the competition already she struck the robots flying her way. This was fun, she thought. The hot hair of multiple explosions filled the air- it was thrilling.

She noticed the blonde fly past her on multiple occasions- but she noticed not once did he care about the large debris of his destruction. Unknowingly Hinami had gained several rescue points thanks to the loud blonde.

Although her test scores weren't the best, she wasn't going to lose to some guy with no training background like herself. Hinami wasn't able to get through recommendation although her amazing father was part of the best association of doctors known to japan's heroes. He was one of the few doctors that could repair the body from scratch with some healthy mana donations. Heroes around the world would travel to see him- but in the eyes of the public, he was just a doctor, not a hero.

Himari was many things- but a cheater she was not.

So when the snarky blonde screamed at her for being a “no good cheating extra” she was more than interested in showing him up.

She darted in his direction, laughing as she passed him in a fly.

It was her time to shine, for her father; someone she thought deserved a place in the hero lineup, but if he couldn't do it- she would do it for him. Rushing through the sea of robots trying to hurt her and the blonde screaming menace, she was able to crush a couple of three-pointer robots before he blasted forward, damaging some of her chances of getting a higher score.

More trouble arrived when U.A number zero robot began to chase them. When would she ever catch a break, she thought. With enough mana left in her body- Hinami released a ruby-looking katana, she decided to take her chances and slow it down. From a distance she could hear Bakugou’s now-familiar voice ring in her ear- he had insulted her again. “Yell at me again, I dare you! You’re a selfish asshole who doesn’t pay attention to the safety of others! STAY OUT OF MY WAY!” That tone in her voice would soon start to rot in his brain if he didn't try and one-up her now, he just had to get in the way of a pretty girl because he was the shit here- not her. Watching as the robot swung his arm too close to Himari, she was ready for the heavy attack but with unnoticeable quick speed, Bakugou blasted his way to her. Wrapping his arm around her waist, pulling her behind his body to protect her slightly, and bombed the metal arm of the robot slowing it down but they were quickly falling to their plummet until Himari released her wings from his grasp, he was not impressed in the slightest.

“Oi extra! Put me down!” He yelled, and she did kindly, dropping him closer to the ground- making him thud in the process.

“You’re welcome. Asshole.” She muttered, tip-toeing down on the hard floor before jogging off to the others who were near by- making sure they were okay. The blonde brushed himself and muttered angrily, Himari was way too out of earshot to hear was he was actually muttering about but she didn't care- others needed her help and he didn't deserve it. But she started feeling a little guilty for throwing him so hard on the floor, she side-eyed him, looking up and down for a moment before she got caught by the aggressive male- his mana was strong, he would be fine if she didn’t check up on him. She definitely shouldn't be wanting to help him but her morals were too strong to deny, she looked away quickly at the person in front of her- a boy with bright red hair. “You’ll be alright by yourself now, yeah?” She made sure to make it a question. He shook his head up and down vigorously, “Yes! Thank you again, that was very manly of you.” Himari raised a brow, a small tinge of laughter escaping her lips. Manly - how funny , she thought to herself, patting him on the shoulder for reassurance. “I hope to see you soon.” Himari kindly bowed her head and ran off to the blonde boy who aggravated her only moments ago. She was already out of breath and it became a struggle to jog but Himari caught up to him anyway-

“Hey!”

She called.

No answer.

She sighed- irritated. “Hey, exploding blonde!” His ear perked up, and his shoulders tensed. Maybe she wasn’t smart enough to notice, he continued to stride past other U.A participants.

“Yeah, you blondie! I’m talking to you- don't ignore me, I’d like to apologize!” He muttered something angrily at himself again- why must the universe hate him, he thought. He could hear her shuffling feet as she began to catch up. Bakugou froze in his tracks and turned around to have her standing so close- how did she get here so fast , he thought. His finger was almost touching her nose- “Maybe if you would stop dragging your feet, you'd catch up to me! Leave me alone and die!” He yelled at her, his body looking like it could definitely explode at any minute because of how his scream shook his body. When he turned around and continued to walk away from her she let out a desperate laugh, “Holy crap- I've never seen someone's quirk mirror a person so perfectly! Amazing, really! You could at least accept my apology!”

“How about shut up and get out of my way!”

“I’m behind you?”

He rose his arm, clenching a fist and raising his middle finger. Classy , she thought. Himari let out a sigh and laughed a little, “Wait until Akira-san hears all about this.”

Chapter 2: Two

Notes:

I love hawks- so he has a big part in Himari's life.

Chapter Text

The sun was setting when Himari watched as bright red wings cast onto the garden of her home. Her gardener, Ryota scolded the red-winged hero, almost pummeling him with his garden hose. “That’s enough Ryota-san, we need to keep Japan’s number three hero alive- don’t we now?” She giggled, dropping herself down elegantly with her wings. Himari smacked the red-winged with her iridescent ones and he acted hurt.

“How many times have I said-” Smack. “Not to fly into the garden-” Smack. “Because Ryota-san works hard on his rose bushes.” Another smack, before the hero, rose his arms in defense. “Alright, alright! Ryota-chan, I apologize.” His response almost seemed witty- he bowed his head at the gardener and received another smack with his hose. “Apology accepted.” He declared proudly- knowing full on that his hose left a mark on the pro hero’s head. The younger man groaned in agony, “You’d think because i’m number 3 he’d give me a little respect.” He rubbed the now-forming bruise on the crown of his head. “Respect is earned, Hawks…” She teased, lingering on her words. “Why the visit?” Himari’s tone became more casual as the gardener got lost in the distance.

“I watched your provisional exam- you could have been faster. Looks like that rowdy blonde was ready to beat you.”

Himari scoffed, rolled her eyes, and began to walk away from the pro hero. “If you came here to lecture me- can I at least offer you something? You’re always nicer with a bribe.”

“You know me all too well Himi-chan.”

“I hate that nickname.”

“I know you do.”

“Shut up before I get rid of every coffee machine in this household.”

“My beak is sealed.”

Himari giggled and shook her head, waiting for him at the back entrance of the house.

When Hawks was the young age of six, he met Yusei Toru- a single father with a newborn daughter who rushed to his aid when entering the hospital with pro hero Endeavor. Gathering details from the large man in front of him- he squeezed his plushy closer to his chest. Yusei was a kind man, his touch was gentle and his eyes filled with sympathy. “Big fan of Japan’s number 2?” He questioned, Hawks didn’t dare let that plushy leave his arms. The blonde boy nodded, still very timid, watching the doctor who was slowly stripping away mana from himself to release it onto the young boy. “You know- I have a daughter, she was born in October… She's just a baby. I don’t know what I would do if I heard someone treating her the way your parents treated you…” His words drew longer- his hands soothing the small scrapes and bruises on his soft skin. “It must have been hard…” Young Hawks shook his head, it was his life- he knew nothing but. Yusei’s eyes saddened, “I’ll be back.” He notified the young boy- who now grabbed at his white coat. “Please don't leave me alone.” The boy whimpered. It broke Toru’s heart to see a boy so alone. The doctor nodded- picking up the boy in his arms. Hawks grasped at his plushy and looked at the hallway that began to look longer. He paid no mind to the conversation the doctor and the pro hero were having- he enjoyed the feeling of soft caresses and the warm mana that circulated both their bodies. He felt safe, he felt calm for once- like the day he received the plushy.

Although Hawk’s teen life was separated from the Yusei’s he made sure to visit when he could. Leaving lunch at the hospital Toru worked at when he knew he had no time for the teenage boy. He was grateful but he had a daughter of his own blood- Hawks would never compare.

Days like these filled his heart with joy- lady Yusei sat in front of him, her legs crossed as she sat down and handed him a fresh brew of coffee. The smell made his wings quiver in joy, he shimmied his shoulders  (something Himari picked up from him) and clapped his hands together, bowing his head and thanking her. He knew no one better that could make a cup of coffee the way Himari did- it was a dark roast that tasted like a smooth autumn afternoon. Although she had her own staff, in the household- they taught her to take care of herself when the time came. A toothy smile was plastered all over her now-maturing face. She was becoming a beautiful girl and he blamed her father for her good looks- he’d have to fight away all the boys who trial for her heart. “That blonde kid sure did give you a run for your money.” Himari scratched the back of her head, “He was kind of an asshole to be perfectly honest with you…” She seemed disappointed with the memory of his nasty attitude. “His name is Bakugou Katsuki, he attended Aldera… he recently got attacked by the sludge villain, I thought he looked familiar.” The girl took a sip of coffee herself and shook her head, “Must have been scary knowing that you have a powerful quirk and not being able to use it to save yourself.” Although her words were muttered, Hawks was able to pick up on it perfectly due to his quirk. “Don’t worry about it, kiddo. He seemed to pick himself up perfectly fine in the physical test. He did brilliantly in the written test as well.” Himari rose a brow, “How do you know?” She was now very curious. Hawks cursed to himself- he should have kept his big mouth shut. “May have looked into him, clearly he got on your nerves since you dropped him like a rag doll.” Hawks snickered a little- hiding it with a long sip of his coffee.

“He was a jerk!”

“He got under your skin.”

“No, he didn’t!”

“Then why are you yelling at me, Hmm? If I knew any better Himi-chan, I’d think you thought he was pretty.”

“Shut up, birdbrain! You know nothing.” The girl curled into herself trying to hide from the pro hero’s wide eyes. “I- I was joking! You’re not seriously pinning over a boy you met less than 5 hours ago!” Himari was quick to lean over the table and cover his mouth quickly- “You know how gossip spreads around this house, if Akira-san gets ahold of this information he's going to formally invite them over! Now shut up before I spit in your coffee.” She lounged back on her cushion and scowled, “His face is a 10 but when he opens his mouth he automatically becomes a two…”

Hawk's laugh filled the room they shared, Himari shook her head and ignored his burst of laughter- she didn’t know if he was laughing at her or the comment she made about the blonde boy she met just hours ago. Either way, Himi-chan didn’t want to know.

It was a matter of time before Himari would receive her acceptance letter- she was sure she had passed. If that blonde pomeranian was able to pass- she would too. She paced back and forth in her garden. Himari hadn’t been able to sleep since Hawks told her what day she would probably receive her letter. Akira shook his head, damn hero should have shut his beak, he thought. He wasn’t very fond of the red-winged pro hero, there was something behind his glimmering eyes that set Akira-san off. He couldn’t deny that he had the same dreams for Himari, they both wanted her safe, and Hawks always kept a close eye on the girl. Unbeknown to lady Yusei, both Hawks and Akira had tracked her phone, laptop, and various devices, including those cheesy Hawks-decorated headsets he had jokingly gifted her on her most recent birthday.

“Why don’t you let me recommend you Himi-chan? Either way, you’d pass-”

The brunette shook her head, “I told you, I don't need a recommendation to U.A- like you just said, I’d pass either way. As much as I appreciate the brotherly effort, I’d like to do it on my own… Goodnight Keigo-san, please don't let the door hit you on your way out.” He grimaced at the memory, she had been clearly irritated at the fact that he brought up the recommendation again, he just wanted the best for her but he understood the will of wanting to make it on his own- he cursed himself for teaching it to her.

“Honey I’m home~!” The hero jokingly sang as he almost broke down the door, Yamagata hot on his trail. “Himi-chan! Tell your mutt to stand down!”

Yamagata was the protector of the household, a prestigious guard, and anti of pro hero Hawks. Himari was quick to whistle, a sign for Yamagata-san to let go of Hawks wings. “I come through the door as you said but your mutt-”

“Watch your tone with lady Yusei, filthy bird.” The guard seethed through his sharp molars. The pro hero rolled his eyes and shook his wings off his grasp, Yamagata-san being dismissed with young Yusei’s nod. “Like I was saying-” Hawks dug into his pocket and revealed a small boxed envelope. “-I came through the door like you asked, to hand deliver this to you.”

Her brown eyes glistened at the sight, “Give!” Himari lunged at him, but the red-winged hero stepped aside. A loud thud echoed into the empty household, Himari groaning as she picked herself up again just to do the same thing again. “Ah, ah, ah- you need to open this with the rest of the staff. They’ve been waiting for this moment as long as you have. Now go on and call them to the tv room- I’ll be there waiting.” The young girl watched from the floor as he skipped into the tv lounge, she was quick to go and find her staff, knowing exactly where they would be thanks to the aura of their mana.

As all the staff, not including Yamagata, strolled into the tv lounge- Himari whistled a tune to alert her hellhound friend. Every tune was different- this one was just a call for attention. He was quick to walk into the tv lounge and she jumped up and down with excitement. “Come on now- hurry.” Hawks smiled to himself watching as she scurried to have them all sit. “Our dear Hawks has graced us with, not only his presence but-” The red-winged hero handed her the envelope, “my future… this will determine if I actually made it into U.A” The staff smiled and nudged each other in excitement. She slowly began to open the envelope before she froze in place. She was nervous- the small device that she now held would determine who she was going to be in the future. Himari was almost trembling in place, unable to play the holographic recording. “I can’t…” She muttered, crouching down, her forehead on her knees- closing her eyes in the process as she pushed the device away to Hawks.

He nodded quietly, unbeknown to her. Hawks grabbed the device and looked at Akira for reassurance, making sure that they were okay with the fact that her future lay in his hands. Although they butted heads- to them, Takami Kiego was family. He placed his free hand on the crown of Himari's head, pressing play with his other hand. A large, bright image of Japan’s favorite rated-R hero pinned on screen. “Yusei Hamari, may I just say that I am very impressed with your written exam. You excelled up to rank number 6 with a glorious grade of 80 out of 100… Although a perfect written score, U.A does allow students to apply for general studies but it is not enough for our prestigious hero course. In order to be accepted to this course of ours, you had to rank a certain number of villain and rescue points…” Pro hero Midnight cleared her throat, everyone was at the edge of their seats. “With a total of 50 villain points and 26 rescue points, i would like to congratulate you on your hard work- Yusei Himari, welcome to class 1-A hero course! You passed our provisional exam better…”

The words began to drift in Himari’s brain.

I passed, she thought.

An uproar of cheers came from the Yusei household staff as the young girl began to tear up, “Oh no…” Hawks muttered, knowing that the small tear coming from the small girl would cause a flood sooner than he’d like. “I did it!” Himari cried, burying her head into Akira’s shoulder as the staff showered her with gentle caresses, pats on the back and a couple of kisses on the cheek. It was enough to calm her down, Hawks was relieved. He watched as she pulled on her sleeve to clean off the buggers and tears that streamed down her face. “... Come on now, crying causes wrinkles- you’re too pretty for that.” Himari smacked his arm with her salty wet sleeve before indulging him into a hug. “...Thank you.” She whispered, loud enough for only him to hear. “You got nothing to thank me for, kid.” He kissed the crown on her head and gave her a squeeze before she let go and began to cheer along with her staff- with her family.

Hawks slowly crept away from the tv room and out to the hall, shoving his hands in his pockets. He was proud- excited for her even. Negative thoughts whirled the red-winged hero, as much as he enjoyed his job it was full of disappointment and heartbreak… Was she ready for what was ahead? It didn’t matter to Hawks, Himari was his sister- blood related or not, he’d do anything and everything in his power to keep her safe. As he walked out to the garden, Akira was not far behind. “I suggest you leave before it gets any darker.” There was no threat in his tone this time, just a heartfelt suggestion- Hawks was always welcomed at any time.

A young winged hero swooned town into the garden, unable to keep himself awake as he bled out in his hands. He didn’t know why his first destination was here and not the hospital that was minutes away. “Takami? Is that you?” The voice of a younger looking Akira ran jogged into the garden, he heard the flapping of his wings from a mile away but he froze when the smell of copper pennies filled the air.

Blood , he thought.

“Hawks?!” Akira activated his quirk in order to see where his limp body laid on the garden floor. “TORU! I NEED ASSISTANCE!” The red-winged hero was lucky that the doctor was home for the week for his daughter's birthday. Maybe that's why he subconsciously flew straight down into the garden? Yusei Toru's skin ran cold with Akiras' scream for help- it was almost nearing midnight and he was watching Himari sleep. She was out cold, not even the screams of her older friend shook her awake. Yusei stoked the hairs away from her face before quickly running down the hall to see what had caused trouble. “What is it Kei…” His blood ran cold again, the sight of a young Hawks sprawled on the floor bleeding out on his best friend. He began to think that one of his worst nightmares had became a reality, “He’s alive- he’s breathing but he’s not moving!”A wave of relief de-stressed his heart as it still ached, “Kei i'm gonna need you to stay here- this is going to require more mana than my own.” His voice was calm- he had already been in many high stress situations before but never envolving his adoptive child. Yusei knew that the day would come- but never did he think it would be so soon.

Hawks now skimmed the garden floor with his foot, tracing over the replaced pavement that was once covered in his blood many years ago. “You know- I never thanked you for that…” The red-winged hero began but Akira didn’t let him continue. “There’s no need. But I do have a favor to trade in.” Hawks nodded, wings slightly perked as he listened to his elder. “I need you to promise me that you’ll do everything possible to protect Himari from the evil out there. She’s still young, she’s still that girl who cried every night when you disappeared for months on end.” The pro hero chuckled, clearing his throat to hide the action. “You don’t have to trade in a favor for that… I do it for free anyways.”

Akira shook his head. “That's not what I mean.”

Hawks raised a brow, turning towards the man behind him, “What do you mean.”

“You know, exactly , what I mean.”

Takami Kiego froze. For the first time in a long time, he felt like he was too slow. Was his past finally catching up to him? The solid stare Akira had on Hawks was a clear sign that he had done some research. He knew. He knew…but still kept it a secret… Why was that? The pro hero met eyes with his sister's protector- “How long have you known?” His voice was timid, Akira recognized the tone from many years ago- the same tone he used when he got caught with something. “Not long… Promise me…Promise me you won’t let them touch a hair on her head-”

“I can’t.” Hawks almost yelled. He hesitated before taking a few steps closer, fear of abandonment trembling in his steps. “But you have my word, that I will give my life for her…” Akira knew it would be too much to ask for. They had too much power.

He nodded, knowing that it was the only compromise the pro-hero could make.

“Hey!” Himari’s vibrant voice echoed into the garden from the back door. “Heading out already?” She questioned, taking a couple steps into the garden until she felt the tension between the two. “Sorry… were you two talking privately?” About ready to shuffle back into her home, the pro hero in front of her gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s okay Himi-chan, you can come over and say goodbye.” Her lips which were once pressed together crept into a toothy grin. Himari didn’t like when Hawks left unannounced- she was the type of person who buried her loved ones with affection because she knew that maybe one day, it would be the last. Her head turned into the hug, her ear to his chest listening to his heartbeat- he was alive, and that’s all the reassurance she needed for the week.

She remembered how the night her quirk activated, she was unable to touch anyone or anything because a crystal orb formed around her small body. Young Himari was running around the garden and when she was seconds away from breaking her skull open on the cement floor- her quirk activated in defense, she was so, so lucky. “Awesome…” A 10-year old Hawks awed, trying to keep her orb steady as they walked into her father’s office. Himari cried and cried all night due to the fact that she couldn't be held by her father or staff when she needed it most.

In the TV lounge, Hawks watched videos as Himari slept on his lap.

She looks like a hamster , he thought as she slept in fetal position. As he reached to tap the glass looking ball- it somehow began to crack under the pressure of his small hand until it shattered around her. He looked at the broken crystal in awe as it seemed to disappear into what looked like fairy dust to him. The iridescent micas danced back into Himari’s skin. “So cool…” He muttered in awe again, brushing the brunette's hair as she was now on his lap sleeping.

The Yusei household woke up in a worry as they didn’t see the children in their rooms. The door to the tv lounge swung open, Yamagata’s worry washing away as he caught the sign of both sleeping children. He took a quick picture, Himari looked like a soft cat as she slept fetus position on hawks upper body- the boy was sprawled on his back, arms and legs in different directions as drool hung from his mouth down to the now-slobbered couch.

It was recurring for Himari to listen to her family’s heartbeat when saying goodbye- something about it kept her in line, kept her sane. Pro hero Hawks combed her hair with his fingers, “I’ll see you soon, kid. Once you’re all settled in at U.A and have friends, I’ll invite you guys out to dinner… No boys though.” Hamari chuckled. As if , she thought. “Just for that, I’m gonna be friends with all the boys in my class…”

“Including the blonde?”

“Oh no, I have other plans for that one…”

“Excuse me?!” Both Akira and Hawks said in unison, Himari was already too far for any of the boys to hold her back. “NOTHING!” She yelled back- running straight to her room to hide from her over-protective family.

“She’s going to be the death of us…” Akira sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’re telling me…” Hawks muttered, flexing his wings to say his final goodbye and disappeared into the sky.

Although Himari joked with the two protectors- she was quick to grab her phone to check all the text she had missed from Midoriya.

Midoriya: [picture]

Midoriya: UHFBRWIFHIUPHEFUH IT’S HERE!

[1 Missed Call from Midoriya I]

Midoriya: Theres no way you didn’t pass! Please let me know!

There was a large time frame gap between text, about half an hour.

Midoriya: I just realized that I could be showing off if you didnt make it…

Midoriya: NOT THAT I THINK THAT YOU DIDN’T PASS! OFC YOU PASSED!

Midoriya: RIGHT?!

The worried text made Himari giggle

Himari: I passed!

Midoriya: THANK GOD- I thought I would have to apologize. I was thinking of ways to apologized but none of them worked out in my head- not even katsudon.

Himari: I’ll take that katsudon anyday.

Himari: NOW.

Himari: Class 1-A or 1-B

Midoriya: 1-A…

Himari: THANK THE GODS. I’ll know somebody.

Himari: I’ll meet you at the station closest to U.A

Himari: I’d like to sit near someone I know.

In the past  two weeks that the students waited for their letter, they texted every single day and sometimes it included a phone call about All Might’s best fights. She didn’t have the heart to tell him that she may had a personal preference for Hawks but Himari didn’t think it was a good secret to out just yet.

Midoriya: YYEs

Midoriya: Sorry.

Midoriya: I’ll meet you then :)

Himari: …I defenetly know where the station is

Himari: … but just in case my driver doesnt know- u wanna send the area?

Midoriya: [location link]

Himari: I’ve let her know- she totally didn’t know where it was- she says thank you

Midoriya: Yusei-san i know you dont know where the station is

Himari: Shut up :)

Midoriya: Goodnight Yusei-san

Himari: WOW that how it is- oaky

Himari: okay*

Himari: You’re contact name is now Oaky- bc u look like an oak tree with that nest of hair or yours

Himari: Do you even brush it

Midoriya: GOODNIGHT YUSEI-SAN

Himari: you can’t leave now

Himari: we ARE friends

Himari: Right?

Himari: Don’t answer that. I don’t wanna know if its not yes- I have attachment issues.

Midoriya: I couldn’t tell

Himari: YOU KNOWW WHAT, if i knew u sucked this bad i would have let you push me into that busy street

Midoriya: How many times to i have to appologize :/

Himari: That Katsudon

Midoriya: …fine

“HA! Sweet!” Hamari giggled, finally putting her phone down. Her life was going to change next week. Although scared, she was excited. She made a reminder to herself to call her father tomorrow morning- or bring him lunch at the hospital to give him the good news.

As her eyes were close to drifting shut- a sudden reminder of the blonde boy with ruby eyes swirled her thoughts. She was going to make him her friend- like it or not. Himari was curious about that warm feeling she got when trying to locate his mana. Who was he really? Why did that warmth radiate more than his explosive attitude? With the reminder of his warmth, the brunette fell asleep, yearning to feel the excitement he brought onto the entrance exam. This was going to be interesting, she lastly thought to herself before her body sunk deeper into her sleep.

Chapter 3: Three

Chapter Text

Today was the last day of Himaris permanent summer, although she enjoyed being home-schooled and loved being at home 24/7 able to take naps throughout the day as she pleased, something in her life was finally changing- she wasn’t used to feeling so nervous. Unbeknownst to her, her nerves had affected everyone around her. As Aoki, chef of the Yusei household scurried her out of the house, her father's credit card was shoved in her hand. “Why am I being kicked out?!”

“You’re scaring everyone with your nerves lady Yusei.” Aoki brushed Himari’s hair, her brown locks now cut short to a bob. “Here-” The chef removed his black Okinawa baseball cap and squeezed it on her head. “So you won’t get recognized by the pro heroes.” The young girl rolled her eyes. She waved her off goodbye, a wash of relief finally waving over the Yusei household.

Aoki had sent Himari out to Shizuoka prefecture, only two train stations away from where they lived, to grab a couple of fresh produce. The chef grew up in the area, knowing that the market there was fresher than the ones near home. Luckily, Himari knew how to get there, the cook took her on a stroll several times during the summers.

The warmth of the sun kept her warm enough as she strolled out of the train station. She wore a black pencil skirt that skimmed down a little below mid-thigh, a grey baby top, and some limited-edition sneakers. Something Himari was really proud of, was her sneaker collection. Ranging from vintage to this month's newest drop.  She was never really able to wear them out, but when she did- she always picked out a different pair every time she headed out. In the corner of her room was a wall display of all of them- a table sat next to it with a notebook with the name of every single pair she owned along with the number of times she was worn them. It wasn’t something she had to do but it was something she could look at when she was dying of boredom. She’d have Hawks to blame- once he rose to the ranks and received a sum of money for his heroic display, he bought her into Japan’s exclusive sneaker stores and bought her a pair of her choosing. Ever since she's never worn anything other than sneakers.

Himari strolled into the produce market, grabbing a basket knowing she’d have her hands so full she wouldn’t be able to see in front of her.

The smell of the store brought back memories of Aoki teaching her how to pick the best produce- the touch and feel of something so rich, it didn’t even deserve to be seasoned or cooked because it was perfect on its own. “I may be quirkless but I have an eye out for these things… This is my superpower.” She spoke proudly, picking up a small Himari as she spun her around- making the store full of her giggles.

Although she only went into the store with Aoki, she recognized the market that she passed every sunset during summer, taking her daily stroll. Himari smiled as she picked a couple of things off the rack, filling her baskets with fruits and veggies, her eyes skimmed the store for the silver carts- she was gonna need more space.

As she switched her produce into the metal cart, a familiar warm feeling entered her vicinity “Blondie?” Her actions won the race.  She clapped her mouth shut and coughed- a knotted feeling in her throat. Her cheeks burned red, pulling her cap down- praying to the gods that he didn’t hear her. A quiet moment had gone by, and she felt awkward- she had no proper social skills when it came to people her age.

“Are you just gonna stand there like an idiot?”

Bakugou noticed that the girl’s ears burned fire red under her cap. If he didn’t know any better- by her statue and the way she carried herself, this was the same girl from the entrance exam. She cleared her throat and uncurled herself, her back now straight, exposing the skin she was once confidently walking in.

“You with that dumb Deku during the exam.”

She was quick to regain the attitude he once received weeks ago, “One, although he barely passed the written, he isn’t dumb. Two-” Himari shoved her now, empty basket to his chest, pushing him back “That’s for stealing my villain point- dumbing me down two seconds under your stupid ass.” Bakugou scoffed, “Serves you right- your lame ass couldn’t make it to number one.” The brunette rolled her eyes and gave her hand to the side, signaling to move. “Get out of my way before I ruin your beautiful Retro Maniére Jordans, and roll my cart over her two fat ass feet.” Bakugou stepped aside, almost frozen by the fact that he was impressed. When was she able to look down at him so quickly that he didn’t notice? In reality, it was the first thing she noticed, her ears burned red.

They were matching sneakers.

And she wanted to run away before he noticed.

Himari wondered why he seemed so calm today, was it because they were in public? She rushed to the back of the store, ordering all types of meat and cheeses. Maybe she'd make a charcuterie when she got home, as a monthly thank you from her staff.

“Do you live around here?”

There was that warmth again, goosebumps swarming her back. His arm was over her head as he handed the butcher a ticket. “Young Bakugou, nice to see you again… How’s your mother?”

“The old hag is married to my shitty dad. She wouldn’t trade him for the world, bastard! Shut up and die!”

The butcher's laugh filled the quiet tension Himari and he carried for a second. “Always such a hot head! Never change, boy.” Bakugou rolled his eyes, shoving his hands in his pocket. His eyes drifted down to have her looking up at him. “Are you going to answer my question?” He almost barked at her, teeth basically snapping at her. She giggled slightly, “You’re so much calmer in public, it’s strange… I’m like two train stations away. Aoki- my uh… chef… she was raised here. That house in front of the store belongs to her father.” Himari was slightly embarrassed to admit she was wealthy. She carried herself like she knew she was… she didn’t necessarily need to rub it in people's faces. “I live on the edge of Nagano… One stop to cross the border into Shizuoka and another to get into the city.” Bakugou nodded, his silence was much louder than all his yelling. He already looked completely different from the last time he saw him- Bakugou carried a relaxed energy, not tired, not sleepy but just his natural state. Unbeknown to many, once alone Bakugou was quiet, less temperamental- he had no reason to yell. To him, it was an image he had to keep up, one that he didn’t know how to change. His hot temper has always carried him through the years- it would be impossible to stop now. He didn’t see a need for change, there wasn’t anyone he needed to impress. The wasn’t anyone he had to change for. “I assume you live near, with the butcher recognizing you and all.” He nodded again, still not another word. “You know- I thought I’d love to see the day I had you speechless but this wasn’t what I had in mind.” A vain irked on his forehead, his peaceful stroll now ruined by the girl in front of him who wouldn’t stop talking. “So you’re just gonna ask me questions, have me answer them and you don’t do the same? You’re one weird guy…”

“If you don’t shut up I’m gonna kill you!”

“There he is! Hello, Bakugou!”

The blonde muttered something under his breath, “-How much longer are you gonna take, old man?! This bastard isn’t shutting up!” Himari rolled her eyes, smiling at the butcher as he handed both students their orders. “Here I thought I was being your wing wan for taking so long.” Bakugou’s palms sparked slightly, the butcher giving him a nervous smile, “SHUT IT, MEAT HEAD!” The blonde swapped his orders and shoved his free hand in his pocket. “Don’t mind him, honey. He’s all bark no bite.” Himari scoffed, “Yeah right, he almost blew me up during our hero course entrance exam… but somehow I’m still going to take your word for it.” The butcher nodded and waved goodbye to her as she headed toward the registers. The blonde was no longer to be seen in the store, she sighed, a little disappointed that she wasn’t able to poke at his buttons until the next time she saw him. She knew that her chances to see him again were high, so the thought washed over her quickly. She gave her thanks to the cashier and grabbed her heavy plastic bags. No wonder Aoki has arms for days- these bags are heavy , she thought to herself. She clutched the bags, her arms toning in the process because of how heavy they felt once she flung them off the cashier counter.

“God I’m so dumb…” Himari quickly put her bags down on the sidewalk and she quickly looked around, her eyes flashing to a translucent white. She was quick to make a makeshift travel cart out of her mana and put her bags inside. Five minutes was enough time to make it down to the station before her makeshift cart would soon disappear.

Once home, Yamagata greeted her and swooped the bags from her arms. “Thank you Yama-san, my arms were starting to ache.” He knew it was a tease, although small, Himari could probably carry him to the train station and back- barely breaking a sweat in the process. Sometimes, he forgot that Himari’s abilities were equally as scary as Hawks, not that he was impressed by the hero. “I saw that boy I told you about again…” Himari said quietly, he was the only one she shared this secret with. He was a good listener, and he usually never spoke to anyone but her and the family… Her secret was safe with him. “I think he’d try to blast me off into space if he had the chance, but I’d like to be friends with him.”

“You’d like to be friends with everyone lady Yusei.” Yamagata’s voice was deep, almost demon-like, but he had a heart of gold. “Fair enough… But I blame that on the fact that I never had any friends my age.” He nodded slowly. “Everything I've heard from Midoriya-san… I don’t understand why his warmth is so prominent. It makes me forget everything he’s told me… He isn’t a good person Yamagata-san… Is it wrong to want to be his friend?” The hellhound shook his head, “This is what is so radiant about you lady Yusei. You’re the type of person who wants hands-on experience, so you can calculate your own opinion… Not many people are willing to look over the past.” Himari slowly nodded, not sure she really understood what he meant. “I say give it a go. If he gives you a reason not to be friends- then you don’t dare to look back. Your instinct is the most trustworthy, put them to good use, make good friends that we can all be proud of.” The young brunette nodded, her hands now fiddling behind her back. Her summer was coming to a close. She was sad she wouldn’t be able to see everyone as often- but the change was something she was willing to overcome.

9:00 PM

Himari: Awake?

Midoriya: Very. Why?

Himari: I went to Shizuoka

Midoriya: And? You? Didn’t? Tell? ME?

Himari: It was in a rush. I got kicked out of my house for “unbalancing the peace”

Midoriya: You have no peace

Himari: DO TOO

Himari: you just haven’t seen me at home

Himari: ANyway

Himari: I ran into Bakugou

Himari: He’s so well-behaved in public

Midoriya: No he isn’t?

Himari: …Uh then did I talk to his clone or something- he wasn’t as fucking annoying as he usually was

Himari: Well until the end

Himari: He opened his mouth, 2/10

Midoriya: Did he do anything?

Himari: No, like I said- he was well behaved.

Himari: Thought it was strange

Himari: Probably my good looks

Midoriya: Eh.

Himari: WOW

Midoriya: Now BFFR

Midoriya: wydm well behaved

Himari: I |

Himari paused her typing, beginning to gather her thoughts.

Himari: Forget about it. He was just quieter.

Midoriya raised a brow of concern at his phone. For as long as he has known Bakugou- he has never seen his quiet side. He thought that it was strange that Himari noted that specifically. He sighed, putting his phone down. Was there a chance that maybe Bakugou was different from what he originally thought? He knew him non-other than a bully- and he wanted to make sure Himari understood that from what he gathered all these years, Bakugou was cruel. The girl he met seemed more than capable of protecting herself from him but that was a dangerous endeavor she was treading on. For someone to challenge Bakugou was basically a death sentence. The race of being his friend, Midoriya could never see the finish line- was there a possibility that Himari was going to advance ahead.

A tinge of jealousy pricked his heart.

Midoriya always wanted to be friends with Bakugou again but the wish started to become impossible when he told him to take a swan dive off a building. The greenette shook his head. Friends or not, Midoriya was going to try and be equal with his frienemy.

Midoriya: Just be careful

Himari sighed, maybe she should have kept it to herself. The need to be his friend was probably a sense of betrail to Midoriya. Maybe at some point, she would have to pick sides… It always came to that in the end but hopefully, she would be able to balance both friendships once she finally reels in Bakugou.

Her phone pinged again.

Unknown: You dropped this, idiot.

Unknown: [Image attacked]

“MY KUROMI WALLET!” Himari yelled to herself. She swore to herself.

Be calm , she thought to herself.

Himari: Who is this?

Unknown: See you in class tomorrow.

She raised a brow, then she froze.

Himari: Blondie?

No answer. Himari sighed, screaming into her pillow. What a great way to end her permanent summer.

Chapter Text

Himari rose before the break of dawn. 5:00 AM, her digital clock shining bright pink on her sensitive eyes. The door lightly swung open, and a familiar mana came through the door. “Good morning, Himari. Rise and shine.” Akira walked over to her curtains to spring them open. Although the sun was not up yet, the blue hues of the sky livened her room. “Tea or coffee this morning?” He asked, opening her closet to fetch her new school uniform. “Coffee please.” She rubbed her eyes like she once did as a child, “Right away, my dear.” He patted her head like one did a cat and then went off his mary way. The girl sighed, 5 AM was a usual wakeup for her so she didn’t feel as tired as she thought she would be. She grabbed her robe and towel from her hanger and opened the door to her bathroom. A morning shower would do her well, she thought.

As she let the hot water stream from her hair down to her toes. She trailed her washcloth over her soft skin, broken with some small scars and some larger ones. Many of these scars were accidents in training. Akira called them accidents, and Himari said it was because she was too slow. Akira-san sometimes thought Hawks was a little to rough on the girl when it came down to her training, but they day he decided to secretly watch- he was fascinated by the way how Himari could catch up with him. Her legs trembling from the hours and hours of training, and her shirt was soaked in sweat and blood. “You’re getting slow, Himi-chan.” The red-winged pro hero sang. “Shut up!” She was aggravated, angry that she was letting herself weaken by the minute. She gripped her makeshift katana that was now disappearing. “If you can last these 60 seconds without getting knocked on your ass we’ll stop.”

The training ended up continuing for another hour before she was finally able to not get hit. She dropped her knees to the floor, gasping for air. Moments after the 60 seconds had ended she punched to strike at Hawks but his wings shot out and threw her against the wall. Hawks collected his wings and slowly walked up to her, his villainous demeanor becoming soft and caring. “You’re getting better.” His hand reached out to her. She took it, her body shivering in pain. “You can’t have emotions clouding your judgment, it’ll get you killed in a real fight.” She nodded, her lips pressed together before she gasped for air again. “I think you broke my rib.” She muttered, causing him to chuckle. “I did no such thing, may have sliced your back- but broken ribs you do not have.” Himari chuckled dryly. “You’re a fucking asshole for that.”

“I know…” He muttered, helping her up to her feet. “Let's get you patched up.”

In situations like this, Himari didn’t go to her father. She wanted these scars, a fair reminder that she was still alive after so many tribulations of her training, Himari was proud to bear ugly scars.

Now in her new uniform, Himari walked out to the kitchen table to meet with all her staff sitting around enjoying their company. “What’s all of this?” The table was set with a beautiful arrangement of food and fruits. “We wanted to have breakfast with you for your first day of school!” Aoki gleaned, setting more cut fruit on the table. “Hurry now, before you’re late on your first day.” The brunette almost cried tears of joy. “This is very sweet of all of you, thank you.” She hugged every single one of them individually before she sat down and enjoyed the coffee Akira-san had made for her.  They chatted about the memories of when Hawks and she were children- many were very embarrassing and others were sweet. As the girl waved goodbye to the staff, Kyota opened the door to the back of the car and quickly rushed to the driver’s side before racing to the closes train station where Himari was going to meet her friend.

“Midoriya!” A voice boomed behind him. As he was turning around she was already inches close to him, almost passing him with the makeshift skateboard she had just made- Midoriya grabs her before she was able to roll into the busy street. “Nice watch…” She smiled as they watched the makeshift skateboard disappear as a car rolled over it quickly. Scary , she thought to herself. “You’re gonna get yourself killed one of these days.” Himari rolled her eyes, looking down at his hands, which were still holding her in place. “Ah! Sorry!” The girl was quick to roll her eyes, “I’m not Bakugou- I’m not gonna kill you if you touch me.” She shoved him forward lightly, “Come on, we got a hero course to take!”

In the month they had known each other, Midoriya and Himari became good friends, he was still adjusting to her non-violent behavior. Although they have spared together, Himari wasn’t physically confrontational with him, it was for the best she had thought.

As they strolled together on the long walkway to U.A, Himari caught eyes with another girl with almost the same hair as her own. The girl smiled as the pink cheek girl before continuing to chat with the greenette. Strange , she thought. Maybe she was a friend of Midoriya.

“-Hold please.” The boy froze in place and side-eyed her, “You know a girl with hair like mine? Pink cheeks?” Midoriya’s head tilted to the side and nodded, his cheeks growing slightly pink as well.

“OH! THAT THE GIRL YOU WON'T SHUT UP AB-” Midoriya clapped his hand over her mouth and loudly shushed her. “Be quiet Yusei-san!” The palm of her hand met his nose as she pressed him away from her. “Well, she’s over there looking at us.” She rudely pointed at the other brunette who quickly began to look away and kick her feet. “Oi! You! Pink cheeks!” Himari yelled, dragging Midoriya by the arm, but as much as he pulled her back, she was much stronger than him. “Have him, he’s not mine if you wanna talk to him… Just ask next time.” Her tone was as sweet as she could make it, making the other brunette in front of her feel not as bad for being caught. “Yusei Himari,” She stuck her hand out, “... nice to meet you.” she quickly grabbed the girl's hands in her own and shook it before letting go and facing Midoriya. “I have to do something anyway so we’ll meet up in class.” Himari saluted to her friend and she created another makeshift skateboard before strolling off.

“Sorry about her Uraraka-san, she’s homeschooled.”

“I heard that Midoriya-san!”

Still skating through the falls of the U.A building, looking down at a man that was given the hologram acceptance video. Himari mumbelled to herself, pointing at the map- unknowingly skating straight towards some stairs. She felt something sticky wrap around her waist, flinging her backward. Luckily she was wearing black shorts underneath her skirt. Himari somersaulted backward and landed in a crouching position. “Watch where you’re going, man. That could have ended badly for you.” Two arms reached down to her, she looked up at the tall ravenette in front of her. “Thanks… That’s the second time someone saves me from imminent death today.” The tall boy raised a brow at her. “I’ll rather not explain. But you have my thanks… Yusei Himari, nice to meet you.” Himari gladly took his hands in hers as he picked her up. “You’re a lot heavier than you look.” He said casually, but the brunette was not amused. “SORRY! I mean, muscle-wise... you got some arms on you… Sero Hanta- nice to meet you.”

Himari chuckled, and then flexed her muscles, twisting her arm downwards. “My bicep is almost as big as your head…” Their laughter filled the hall. “I like you, Yusei. You’re funny.”

“Midoriya-san says it’s because I’m homeschooled and I don’t have a filter.” Sero nodded, “That’s gonna do it… What class are you in?” Himari looked around and found the giant door to class 1-A, “That one.” She pointed to the sigh, he took a quick glance back, the same class he was in. “Sweet, me too. You wanna sit together?”

“Very forward of you Sero, but I already made some promises.” He nodded kindly in agreement. “Probably for the best, we’d probably disrupt the class too much.” He teasingly elbowed her, “I’ll see you in there, I’m actually waiting for someone.” Himari nodded, waving before she walked into the classroom. The room already had a couple of students sitting down when, she spotted a familiar blonde, his feet up on the desk in front of him. He seemed to be at peace with his eyes closed.

Now standing in front of him, she patted his legs before sitting down, knowing that if he bother him another way he would probably bite her head off. The blonde opened his eyes, catching familiar brown ones. “My wallet, pretty boy.” A hand was held out on top of his desk. He raised a brow at her. “No one, and I mean no one, is going to text a random number in a wallet and call them dumb.”

“I actually called you an idiot.” He grabbed into his pocket and threw it underhand gently, the wallet tumped on top of her head, falling right onto her lap. “You getter not have stolen my money.”

“I don’t need your bad money, extra!”

“Oh so now I’m an extra- I thought I was your main love interest.”

“SHUT UP BEFORE I BLOW YOUR FACE OFF!” The class around them quiet down as they watched the two interact. Himari giggled, watching his mana grow as he threatened her. “DON’T ALL OF YOU HAVE SOMETHING ELSE TO LOOK AT!” Himari shoved her wallet in her bag and threw her backpack in front of the empty desk in front of him. She turned back to look at him again, he was already looking at the back of her hair so they locked eyes again. “Midoriya is sitting in front of me, so if you have a problem with it-”

“I have a problem with it.”

“Beautiful. I don’t care. So if you have a problem- suck it up, you baby. Midoriya’s been working really hard-”

“I don't care what that bastard has been up to, her a quirkless nobody!”

“He’s not-”

A booming, mechanical-like voice uproared in front of Bakugou, whoever he was, he was quick. “Did you’re mother not teach you any manners, young man?! Don’t disrespect the classroom and put your feet down!” Both the brunette looked at him and then at each other. “What’s up your ass?” Himari asked bluntly. The room becomes quiet.

Midoriya froze at the door, recognizing his friends' blunt tone. “Oh no…” He whispered beside Uraraka. The girl beside him looked over his shoulder and recognized his friend. The room slowly began to fill with stifling laughter. Bakugou on the other hand let out a loud chuckle before covering his mouth and quickly darting his face away from the tall dark blue-haired student who Midoriya recognized as Iida Tenya. “Excuse me? I’ve never heard such foul language come from such a dignified-looking student!”

“Oh? Who are you to judge me?”

“Yeah four-eyes, no one really asked for your opinion.” Bakugou backed her up, looking more stern than he was moments ago. “My name is Iida Tenya, former student of Soumei Acadamie, a prestigious-”

“So you’re a rich kid like me?” Himari asked, raising a brow, making eye contact with the boy standing in front of Bakugou. He gave her a questionable look, “Yusei Himari, my father-”

“Is the number one doctor in Japan! My apologies, your father has cared for my family for years!”

Himari waved her hand, asking him to lean in a little forward and he did so, “Not many know my father unless they’re heroes, so let's keep it that way…” He nodded in agreement before she continued “And because you’re doing me that favor, I’ll try and keep this one in line for you.”

“I HEARD THAT!”

“Shut up! I doubt you did. Will all that screaming and exploding you must be deaf.”

“I’LL KILL YOU!”

Himari winked at the dark blue-haired boy in reassurance and walked confidently back to whatever he was doing when the bell rang. Uraraka found her seat and Midoriya timidly walked towards Himari, not wanting to be recognized by Iida or caught by Bakugou. The brunette girl noticed the greenette and swiftly moved her backpack beside her, smacking the blonde's legs down in the process. Himari, glared at Bakugou as he almost growled at her, then smiled sweetly at Midoriya- patting the seat in front of her. “Don’t worry, he won’t bother you while I’m here.” She reassured, patting his back once he sat down. Bakugou scoffed and rolled his eyes, chin in his palm, as they waited for their instructor.

Himari was stuck with a small ball of tape from her right, raising her brow she inspected the ball before glazing towards the direction it was thrown. “It must be fate,” Sero whispered, making Himari’s eyes roll. “You wish…” She teased, playing with the ball of tape he had thrown at her.

The door slammed open, and a yellow sleeping back fell flat on the floor before it wormed up onto the stage. A quiet zip came from the bag, a long-haired, tired-looking man removed himself from the small yellow cocoon and sipped the rest of his jelly packet. “Welcome to class 1-A, I am your homeroom teacher. I go by Aizawa, and Aizawa only- please refrain from calling me anything casual.” The quiet classroom slowly began to fill with whispers, he pulled a large bag from under the podium. “Each and one of you will be receiving your P.E clothes, please come up and get one, head to the locker rooms to change, and meet me outside on the field.” The students quickly headed forward to grab a uniform, each one had a note with their name on it.

Himari followed the other girls in her class into the locker room, quickly grabbing the locker furthest from the door. A girl about her size, with headphone jacks falling from her ears placed her things in a locker near hers. “Not a people person?” Himari asked her, not looking her way but casually removing her clothes to change into her new ones. “Ah… that obvious?” She whispered, making Himari chuckle lightly. “It’s okay, sometimes I’m not either.” The brunette waited until she was fully clothed before she put a hand out to her, “Yusei Himari, nice to meet you.” The girl shook her hand “Yeah I overhead, you were talking to that engine guy, Jirou Kyouka- pleasure.”

“Walk with me?” Himari asked, the girl nodded.

They chatted up a conversation, mostly about how she knew the explosive blonde and the scars that she exposed in the locker room. Once at the field, he could hear how they giggled at each other and Himari side-eyed him- whispering at Jirou then laughing again. The brunette smiled and waved before she made her way over to the blonde, who scoffed and turned his head as she made her way over to him. “You know, it’s not polite to stare and listen to other people's conversation.”

“Leave me alone!” He barked at her, his neck reaching toward her direction. “Not a chance blondie. I’m head of the Midoriya protection squad- I’m keeping my eyes on you.” He scoffed again, crossing his arms together and muttering something under his breath. “Whatever you say, your highness.”

“If I didn’t know any better, sounds like I’m growing on you.” She lightly nudged him. “LIKE HELL YOU ARE! SHUT UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE, EXTRA!”  The students of class 1-A grimaced at the way he yelled at her, but her smile didn’t falter. “Your wish is my command, your highness .” She mimicked, before jogging away and huddling up with Sero, introducing herself to the people he surrounded himself with.

“I recognize you!” The red-haired boy noted, “You saved me and another couple of people from that gigantic robot- so manly!” The imaginary lightbulb on top of Himari’s head popped with a glow. “You’re so right! I did do that! What a small world we live in, don’t we?” The students kept chatting to themselves until everyone was together at the field.

“Alright. Listen up.” The class fell quiet, the wind dancing through the trees could be heard perfectly. “Welcome to the hero course. You’re all here for a reason, you all have a chance to be heroes, don’t ruin that chance. As your homeroom teacher, I personally believe that a formal introduction and going over simple things such as an itinerary if useless. So today you will be challenged in 8 different trials, starting with…” Aizawa reached into his pocket, pulling out a baseball. “Throwing this.” He threw the ball underhand to the blonde who once had his arms crossed. “Bakugou, you’re up first… This is something you probably all did in school-”

Himari glanced over at Sero, a questioning look plastered on her face. He nodded at her, confirming that this was a thing public and private schools did. Himari pressed her lips together, a little embarrassed that she just had to confirm with someone due to her high privilege. “But I’d like you to use your quirks this time.” The students of class 1-A began to whisper to themself excitingly as Bakugou walked up to the home base. “Whenever you’re ready.”

Himari watched him attentively. Midoriya eyed the way she watched him. Something about him, immediately always caught her attention, he was curious as to why but he didn’t think id be an appropriate thing to ask. The brunette watched as he prepared himself to throw the ball, a sideways stance- his fingers twirling the ball on his skin before he launched the ball, a loud explosion eroding from the palm of his hands. “DIE!” He yelled. Himari cupped her hand over her hand, stifling a laugh, as the others praised his 700-meter throw. “Quiet down! All of you will have your time to shine- or not. With that said, the student with the lowest score will be expelled .”

The brunette raised her brow, “What? That’s totally unfair!” a female voice rose from next to Midoriya. Himari- turned to look, it was the girl who watched her carefully when she walked with the greenette. “Natural disasters are unfair.” Aizawa began, “Losing a loved one in a disaster is unfair. The destruction of villains is unfair. No one deserves to be in this course if they don’t work for it. Now, let’s continue.” Himari knew she’d have to wait due to the fact that her teacher was going in alphabetical order. The redhead now known to be Kirishima began to chat with Kaminari about the blonde who stood by himself now. “I’ll be right back.”

“Did she just ignore me?” Kaminari asked, his reach to her left hanging. “Dude- I don’t even think she realized you were talking to her. She’s a little strange, super manly, but otherwise a strange girl. The yellow-haired boy gave him a look that spoke ‘who cares’. “The weird ones are always the hottest, man! She fits the agenda.” The red-haired student bonked his head lightly. “Not manly dude, stop objectifying her. From watching her at the entrance exam, she’d kick your ass faster than you could say sorry.” Kaminari rubbed the sore spot caused by his newly found friend. “That’s hot.” He whispered to himself, earning another bonk but from this time Sero. “It’s pretty obvious she’s taken, man. She keeps going back to that blonde kid.” Kaminari groaned, “What? No way!” he whined to the ground. “What does a girl like her see in the likes of him?!” The yellow-haired student pointed at the two. Bakugou stayed in his place, his head snapping at her- clearly yelling at her but she just giggled and continued to speak to him. Himari’s arms were linked behind her, turning side to side as she continued to converse with the blonde who seemed like he wanted nothing to do with her. Bakugou rolled his eyes, “Why don’t you just go bother those extras you were talking too, and leave me alone!” She quickly rose her brows and stifled a laugh by clearing her throat. “Sound to me like you’re jealous Bakugou-san~” She leaned towards him as she sang. Maybe it was a mistake to tease him but Himari honestly knew the difference. Her life alone with no friends has caused her to be a very open and friendly person to anyone who cared to speak with her, which scared most people away. Himari ducked under his swing, but his hand reached behind the collar of her jacket and began dragging her towards Midoriya, who now looked horrified. The girl crossed her arms like an angry toddler, she didn’t resist him at all when Bakugou dropped her at Midoriyas feet, making a thump when her butt reached the dusty floor.  “KEEP HER AWAY FROM ME OR I’LL KILL BOTH OF YOU!” He yelled threateningly, before stomping away to stand alone. With his arms crossed over his body, Midoriya nodded vigorously. The two students watched him walk away, “I’ll break through him, just watch…” Himari reached up to Midoriya, taking his hands in hers as she jumped up to stand. She dusted herself of as the boy in front of her looked at her like she was insane. “Sorry… I know you too don’t see eye to eye.” The brunette felt a little guilty for trying to build a friendship that her friend once yearned for years ago. “You don’t have to apologize to me Yusei-san…” He dusted off some dirt from her jacket and gave her a sentimental, soft smile. “It’s not like I can be your only friend in class… just be careful, please. I wouldn’t like to see you hurt.” She dusted off her pants and side-eyed him before giving him the same smile he gave her. “Don’t worry Midoriya-san, I know how to protect myself. The greenette shook his head, “That’s not really what I mean… just don’t get your hopes up.” She gave him a questionable look, which he completely ignored.

“Midoriya Izuku. To home base!” Their teacher yelled, his voice carrying all the way back to them. The greenette tensed. Himari patted his back proudly, “You got this, just don’t underestimate yourself. If you can almost knock me out with a polearm, anything should be possible for you.” The memory poured back into Midoriya, slightly embarrassed.

It was one of the last times they spared together, Himaris' quick wit started to irritate Midoriya. “You’re too slow!” The brunette yelled, her polearm striking his knee again, watching him kneel to the floor. “If you can’t keep up with me, how do you think you’re going to keep up with villains?” Her words were harsh, but she was right, and he knew that. She struck the back of his head as he was catching his breath, “Quit it Yusei-san.” Midoriya was seconds away from picking himself up again before her polearm threw him back, she had struck him under the chin. “You don’t get to catch your breath mid-fight!”

“We’re training!” He yelled at her almost desperately as he lunged at her, completely missing as she covered herself with a shield and compressed him to the floor. “It’s life or death! You can’t hesitate Midoriya! Not once have you been able to put your hands on me! I’m starting to grow a little bored- I thought you’d be able to catch up.” She struck down on the shield that covered Midoriya, breaking it and adding sharp pressure to his chest, close to his heart. “If I were a villain you’d be dead.”

That pissed Midoriya off.

Midoriya’s usual sweet green eyes turned slightly dark, and grabbing her polearm quickly began to strike, missing as she either ducked or blocked. “Now we're getting somewhere!” Himari said joyously, moments before her polearm struck her cheek.

Time froze for Midoriya before he realized what he had just done. Himari clutched her cheek, a rush of blood falling from her nose. “YUSEI-SAN! I’M SO, SO SORRY! ARE YOU ALRIGHT!” A stifled laugh began to come from the brunette, “That tickled…” Midoriya turned whiter than a ghost, he was friends with a monster. “I think I’m about to pass out…” He mumbled, crouching down to sit, head in between his knees.

“I’m still sorry about that.” He apologized as he quickly headed to home base, head low as he felt Bakugou's piercing stare.

The students of class 1-A watched Midoriya attentively, excited as he was moments from throwing the ball. Some of the students' eyes widened as Midoriya’s arm glowed with red streaks. Himari stood there, now unimpressed as the ball only landed a couple of feet from him.

“I stopped your quirk.” Aizawa started his scarf down defying gravity along with his hair. Himari tensed up, she knew exactly who he was now. The words they exchanged were inaudible to her as she stood in the back, her feet moved without thinking as she watched Aizawa pull him close with his capture weapon, but an arm reached her direction- stopping her in her tracks. “That’s probably not a good idea.” The girl with the pink cheeks told her. The two of them watched as their teacher let go of the greenette boy, sighing in relief simultaneously. Uraraka side-eyed Himari as she watched Midoriya. Her eyes were full of worry. She knew the power Midoriya held, he has explained it to her on their last day of sparing together during the break. Her lips were pressed together as Midoriya threw the ball for the second time, worried that he might be chewing more than he could swallow. A sigh of relief escaped her lips as only his finger bruised up, and not his whole arm. “705.3 meters”

Himari distracted by relief, Bakugou began to rush towards Midoriya. Luckily, their homeroom teacher wrapped Bakugou in his binding cloth. “I warn all of you to not make me use my quirk again! It gives me serious dry eye.”

Himari made sure Midoriya returned to his spot with his friends safely, secretly glancing over at Bakugou as he stood frozen in his spot. In class, she tried explaining to him what Midoriya has explained to her months prior. She was worried slightly, what caused him to lunge at him like that, quirk activated and all? She made sure her friend was okay before creating a makeshift finger brace. “It’ll only last about 5 minutes before it disappears, let me know when that happens and I’ll make another one.” Midoriya nodded at his friend, “Thank you, Yusei-san.” She nodded in response and smiled softly at her friend. “I was worried you’d end up with a broken arm,” Himari stated, a heavy sigh leaving her body, shaking her head in the process with disapproval. “I thought I would too!” Midoriya seemed more bright after his confrontation with Bekugou. He quickly apologized to the other two classmates who waited for him patiently. Midoriya dragged Himari further back from the group. “Before he erased my quirk, that was exactly what I was going to do, but knowing that I probably wouldn’t get a second chance if that happened- I focused my power on the tip of my finger, I didn’t think it would work so efficiently but I’m glad that it did!” His excitement was unable to be tamed when he spoke. Himari smiled unconsciously, she was happy her friend was making progress.

The brunette and greenette drowned themself in conversation as they headed back to Iida and Uraraka. Bakugou watched them cautiously, Himari knew something he didn’t, but his pride was too much for him to kindly as her. Not that she would tell me , he thought.

She had something Bakugou was missing. She had a type of confidence he lacked. He grew angry, envious.

He was going to challenge her. Bakugou convinced himself at that moment that he would try to make training for her a living hell is he was ever near her.

“Yusei Himari!” The brunette snapped her head towards the front, “You’re up!” Aizawa called from home base. The class quiet down and watched her, walk towards the white block. Although her walk was confident, Himari’s palms began to sweat with all eyes on her. The attention and quietness gave her an eerie feeling. “Use your quirk as you please, refrain from hurting yourself and me in the process, please, and thank you.” He spoke to her dryly. What’s his problem , she asked to herself but the look she gave her teacher was more than enough for him to understand. “We don’t have all day.” He rushed her, making her more nervous. “ We don’t have all day .” She mocked quietly to herself. Sounds like something Hawks would say, she thought to herself. “You sound like my brother.” She told him bluntly. Unknown to her, he looked a little shocked to be talked back to. Her hand glowed with a range of colors as she activated her quirk, her eyes turning a shade of ivory white in the process. “Let’s get this over with.”  Himari twirled the bat she created from her mana, catching the baseball Aizawa had tossed her. “Can I get someone to throw the ball at me or do I have to do this on my own?”

“Sometimes you don’t have someone to help you in battle, Yusei.”

“Whatever teach…” Himari mumbled, throwing the ball high up in the air, giving her enough time to back up and take a stance. For a moment it looked like the ball had frozen mid-air perfectly to hit. She arched her shoulders back, striking the ball- causing wind to blow through the students, dust now filling the air. Once her mana created a material, it gave her 20% more strength than she had before, something she activated only just months ago. Himari covered her eyes from the sun as she watched the ball disappear into thin air.“585.2 meters.” Called out Aizawa, the students unbracing themselves from the wind that roughly blew on them. Kirishima nudged Kaminari, “What did I tell ya? Super manly.” He said impressed, watching as she walked back to the greenette who stood towards the back. Kaminari had his mouth hung open, Sero rolled his eyes. The ravenette closed his jaw, “You’ll catch flies man.” he said in disgust.

As the kids continued their trials, Aizawa confessed in the end that no one would be expelled. The kids sighed in relief as Himari quickly fanned Midoriya before he passed out from stress.

The students chatted to themselves as they all slowly returned from the locker room, they had been dismissed moments prior but Aizawa gave them free will to leave when they like. Himari was sat on the desk casually chatting to Jirou as she waited for Midoriya to come out of the lockers, she didn’t forget that she owed him lunch. The classroom grew quiet again, along with the girls' conversation, as Jirou stopped mid-sentence. Himari looked at her curiously, wondering why she had fallen silent, but the familiar feel of warmth filled her vicinity. “That was some throw Bakugou, you gotta teach me your technique next time.” The brunette spoke as Jirou tensed up at her words. “Don’t mock me!” He snapped at her, reaching for his backpack.

“I’m not?”  She hopped off her desk, blocking the blonde's exit. “Get out of my way.” He seethed, looking down at her- His ruby eyes darting down at her coffee ones. She sighed, turning her body to the side, willingly giving him the opportunity to leave. As he made his way out, his shoulder collide with hers, knocking her lower back onto the desk.

Jirou reached her hand towards her shoulder, keeping her steady, feeling her demeanor change. “I don’t get why you’re trying so hard to be friends with him.” She spoke quietly, her hands now off Himari, a large mistake on her part when she watched her dart out of the classroom to chase after Bakugou.

“Yusei-san, where are you-”

“I’ll be back to take you to lunch. I’m gonna teach that fucking prick a lesson in respect!” Midoriya’s eyes widened in surprise, he had never heard her speak words so vulgar.

One of the many things Himari hated was disrespect to those who didn’t deserve it. Unknowingly Bakugou had crossed a serious line with the brunette who chanced him down the halls of U.A.  All the moments she had with Bakugou were understandable, he had explosive behavior and Himari didn’t mind, it was refreshing to find someone so different. Himari was acquainted really well with harsh words that didn’t faze her anymore, six years ago maybe Himari wouldn't have tolerated him but she was changed now. She was taught patience and respect- something Bakugou was missing.

“Hey, blondie! You forgot something!” Himari called cherrie-like behind the classmate she was once chasing. Groaning to himself in annoyance, the boy kept walking towards the exit. “Don’t ignore me, prick!” Bakugou froze in place, “What the hell do-”

His words caught in his throat.

Himari had a makeshift katana straight at his neck at a perfect distance. “Cat caught your tongue? Good.” Her white eyes shifted slowly to her brown ones that stared up at him. “You have some fucking nerve being so cruel. Where does it get you? Hmm?” Himari crossed her arms and sighed, irritated more than he was. “I don’t need a lecture from some damn extra!” He yelled at her, taking a step towards her but Himari put her feet down and she wasn’t going anywhere as he inched closer to her. They stared at each other, daring the other to look away. “Not even a couple of minutes ago I thought you were kinda cool…” The brunette paused, quickly choosing her words wisely. “The sad truth about you is that you’re a lowlife with no self-respect. You make everyone deal with your shit because you can’t even handle it yourself. Grow a fucking spine and learn to respect yourself and the people around you.” With a clenched jaw, Bakugou watched as Himari walked back towards the U.A building.

As she returned to the floor of her class, the students of 1-A quickly scurried back into the classroom as Sero pushed Jirou to distract her. “Sorry for storming off like that. I wouldn’t be able to sleep if I didn’t get that off my chest.” Jirou nodded to the girl as they walked into the classroom, everyone now whistling a tune as they weren’t just listening to her and Bakugous conversation thanks to Jirou.

“Midoriya let’s go. I’m hungry.” Himari grabbed him by the arm as he began to apologize to his classmates vigorously for her bluntness as he was being dragged away by his friend. “Stop apologizing, they’re gonna think we're together or something you weirdo.”

“Sorry, Yusei-san! T-That’s not my intention at all!”

“Shut up, Midoriya-san.” She grumbled before he continued to mutter apologies and explanations behind his reasonings

“Yes ma’am.” Midoriya tensed.

“Don’t call me that, you make me feel old!”

“I’M SORRY”

“STOP APOLOGIZING!”

“S-”

“I’m literally going to throw you away…”

“Please don’t.”

“I’ll think about it.”

Notes:

Himari is MAD. bro like she hates disrespect. When she learned that his parents like beat him and disrespected him she wasn't having any of it. she just doesn't like bullys but because she's never had friends she liked his behavior- it was different that's why shes so fascinated with breaking into him. anyway- I don't know when the next chapter will be up <3

Chapter 5: Five

Summary:

PLEASE READ "PREVIOUSLY ON" SECTION
I have made a small change in Himari's wording that really affects how she sees Bakugou!

Notes:

Hello! So I know its been about a month or so since I posted, and this is over 5k words- (I'm typing this before I finish the actual chapter so future me please inset word count here)

WORD COUNT: 7245 (1HR reading time... I'm so sorry)

wow awesome, anyway. I had to revisit all of my chapters and I see a lot of spelling errors- My bad guys, I'm raw dogging this shit bc I'm too embarrassed to ask anyone I know to proofread but it's fine.

Anyway- I'm changing a small detail in the "Previously" section because I don't like how I worded some of the things Himari said- and now I'm changing them slightly to fit the storyline. I don't want her to hate him so bad off the bat- as much as I wanted to I don't think it would fit her behavior because she actually really wants to be friends with him but she def doesn't like how he disrespects people- so now she's going to keep HIM in check.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Previously on: When The Sun Comes Down The Painted Glass

Himari had a makeshift katana straight at his neck at a perfect distance. “Cat caught your tongue? Good.” Her white eyes shifted slowly to her brown ones that stared up at him. “You have some fucking nerve being so cruel. Where does it get you? Hmm?” Bakugou crossed his arms and sighed, irritated more than she was. “I don’t need a lecture from some damn extra!” He yelled at her, taking a step towards her but Himari put her feet down and she wasn’t going anywhere as he inched closer to her. Their gaze blazed a fire in their chest- something neither of them have felt before. The heat of the challenge. Two of the best students in their class were darting their eyes at each other, from the top floor- the class of 1-A watched. Neither of them dared to look away “I'm gonna be honest with you Bakugou…” The brunette paused, quickly choosing her words wisely. “I want to be your friend, and I want to end that respect but I can't help but believe that your sad truth, is that you're a bully... An asshole with no self-respect. You make everyone deal with your shit because you can’t even handle it yourself. Grow a fucking spine and learn to respect yourself and the people around you. You can't make it to number one by yourself. I don't wanna steal that chance from anyone- not even you, but I'd like to be worthy of helping you make it to the top. So please, give me a chance.”

With a clenched jaw, Bakugou watched as Himari bowed to him. He was once again speechless because of her behavior.

No one has ever spoken to him with so much respect.

He almost felt guilty.

Almost.

_____

Akira's morning consisted of waking up every morning at 4 AM. A shower is first needed to wake up. He kissed the photograph of his sister before standing and stretching.

He was ready for the day ahead now.

"Get dressed and wake up lady Yusei."

“5 more minutes…” Himari yawned, covering herself in blankets. It was a bit strange that she asked for extra time. For the past 5 years, she has been waking up at the same time with no complaints. “Are you feverish?” Akira asked, removing the blankets that no longer covered her face. Himari rubbed her eyes as the light-colored walls spread the morning light, the back of his palm on her forehead. “You seem alright to me.”

“Can a girl not ask for 5 more minutes of sleep?” She questioned, gently pushing Akira’s cold hand away from her face. “I had to be confrontational yesterday… I couldn’t really sleep because it kept replaying in my head… I was a jerk and I said things I shouldn’t have … But I tried to make it better and now I’m nervous for today…” The man in front of her raised a brow, surprised with the sudden confession. “Confrontation on your first day, don’t you think that’s a little too soon?” The brunette shook her head. “It’s a bunch of kids fighting for the spot to be the best hero, confrontation is expected Akira-san… I also might have threatened him on school grounds and he's in my class and I sit behind him because I wanted to be his friend but I picked a fight and now I don’t know how they’ll respond because I left him in the dust.”

“Him? Would you like-”

“No Akira-san!” Himari blurted- cursing herself for not watching her words so carefully. “Last time you confronted a boy he got sent off to a different district.”

“Because his father decided not to be your father's pupil anymore, not because I confronted him.”

Himari climbed out of bed, stretching the second her bare feet pressed on the cold wooden floors. “Either way, I haven't seen him in years and the last time he came over, you embarrassed me because you thought he was my boyfriend… I was twelve!” Akira handed her a pressed ironed uniform, “Either twelve, Sixteen, or Thirty, they will have to get through me first. Not your father, not Hawks- but me.” He pressed his hands against her cheeks, squeezing roughly as he kissed her forehead. “Now, shower, get dressed-  long day ahead. Maybe you can ask Yama-san for a talk.”

Himari nodded in agreement making a mental note that she would go find him before she fed the stray cats that always wandered into their open abode.

He always knew the right thing to say.

She quickly rushed to get ready, more than usual. She had felt guilty for the words she had exchanged- well more like spoken to Bakugou. Himari knew that with someone like him, her words wouldn’t be able to be taken back too easily. She let out a frustrated sigh, her words were truthful but harsh in the end.

“Should I ask for forgiveness Yamagata-san?”

In the open cold air of the house garden, Yamagata and Himari sat beside each other, watching the stray cats rummage into the food that had been served to them. The large man hummed, petting a brow cat that followed him around for his warmth.

Her hellhound guard thought to himself. “May I ask if you like this boy as well?” Himari almost choked on her tea, quickly placing it back on the saucer before she spilled it all over her uniform. “No. Nothing like that.” Yamagata smiled, he knew this girl well, it was a rare occasion to see her flustered this way about a boy. He was glad that she was accustomed to her new life so quickly.

“I think this might be something you’ll have to figure out yourself, my Lady… This boy reminds me a lot of myself to be truthful- I would give him space. If he is any of what you’ve informed me of, he’ll appreciate your honesty- just give him time.”

Himari nodded, reaching her hand to hold on to his. “Thank you Yama-san. For now, let’s just keep this between us again.” The hellhound nodded. “I hope that one day you two get to be friends.” The girl smiled, squeezing his hand. “How is that friend of yours? Midoriya, was it?” Himari hummed into her sip of tea, “He’s well, Kyota san drops me off at his last stop so we can walk to school together… He’s a good friend.”

“I’m very happy you’ve found a friend.”

“I am too… He doesn’t pretend to like me for money… I think I can trust him the way I trust you.” Himari smiled at her hound friend softly as he focused on the cat on his lap. “I don’t think I’ll be able to stand anytime soon…” The girl chuckled, standing up in the process.

Hovering over him, she dropped her arms and picked up the cat from under its arms, and placed it on her pillow. The cat stretched and purred into the pillow which was left warm for them. “There. Problem solved… Kyota must be waiting for me now- enjoy the rest of your day Yama-san.”

The hound stood, bowing to the girl before she left. “Have a lovely day, Lady Yusei.”

__________

“Goodbye Himi-chan! Have a good day at school!”

Himari could hear Midoriya’s stifled laugh as she waved to her driver, a lipstick mark now plastered on her cheek thanks to her driver Kyota. Midoriya quickly waved to her driver goodbye as she sped off, “Sometimes I swear she wants to literally eat me… Do you have a tissue or anything?” The greenette began to rummage through his backpack until he found a pouch of tissues- Himari swooped it out of his hands before he noticed. “You’re welcome.” Midoriya teased. The girl beside him scoffed, rubbing off the remainder of Kyota-san’s black lipstick. “I thank you with my presence Midoriya-san, stop being so ungrateful.”

“You’re so funny Yusei-san.”

You’re so funny Yusei-san .” Himari mocked him, earning a nudge from the greenette. “You’ve been moody since your talk with Kacchan, are you sure everything is alright?” The girl sighed, trying to collect her thoughts. “I just don’t want to deal with him hating me.”

The two students walked quietly beside each other before Midoriya chimed his thoughts, “I thought it was impressive the way you stood up to him.” Himari shook her head, still disappointed with herself. “Well Midoriya-san, I am rarely mean like that… Something about him…” Her words drifted off as if she regretted the sentence she was going to start. “He pushed buttons I thought I got rid of years ago.”

Midoriya hummed in understanding, quietly collecting his thoughts, “I don’t think he hates you… You would know if he did.” Midoriya said casually, strolling beside Himari as she raised a brow, not knowing how she felt. She knew that he was secretly pointing at the behavior Bakugou showed her closest friend. “Well, I’ll beat his ass if he tries anything with you again.” Her comment was light-hearted, making Midoriya chuckle, their shoulders brushing as they walked towards the large building of U.A.

_____

His ruby eyes watched the door. Surprisingly Himari wasn’t the only one who wasn’t able to sleep well last night. Bakugou tossed and turned last night, thinking about her words. He had decided that he didn’t feel any guilt towards the girl who smiled at the three boys who gathered around the door to greet her. He watched as Kaminari tried putting an arm over her shoulder but she pushed him with a makeshift wall, “Kaminari we aren’t that close- keep your hands to yourself for now.”

“For now? Does that mean soon because-”

He watched as Himari ignored his yapping, calmly removing a strip of tape from Sero’s elbow and smacking Kaminari’s mouth with it, bringing tears to his eyes. She patted his head, a soft smile plastered on her lips, toying with him. “See- you’re more good-looking with your mouth taped closed.” Bakugou stifled a laugh as Sero, Kirishima and Jirou’s loud laughter hid his own. She spoke with Jirou for a second before glancing over at him- his blonde hair quickly shuffling. A small blush crept on her ears, “You’re so obvious.” Jirou poked Himari’s waist with her headphone jack, making the girl jump in place. “Quiet.” Himari whispered, scolding her friend.

The night prior, Jirou called Himari about what the class had peer-pressured her to do, they exchanged giggles over the phone as the brunette girl admitted to what she had told Bakugou. “Jirou- come on I can’t help it. I’m not mean…”

“You were pretty scary Yusei-san… You really meant what you said didn’t you?”

Himari took a second to think, “Yeah… I- I did…”

Himari now sat on her chair, rummaging through her bag and taking out her class necessities. She cursed at herself noticing that she had probably dropped her phone in Kyotas car while she was too busy worrying about the black lipstick that almost stained her cheeks. Hand reaching into her bag again, she noticed that her stationery bag was missing too. “Damn it…” She muttered to herself, pushing herself up slightly from her desk, her hand was meters away from sneaking into Midoriyas when she felt something ricochet off the back of her head.

Frozen in place, she rose a brow, slowly sitting herself back down before looking around the floor to see a pencil by her feet. “You’re quirk is useless if you can’t even makeshift yourself a damn pencil.” Himari whipped her head back to look at Bakugou. She gave him an, are you serious, expression. “I’d have to re-make one every six minutes, it’s not useless, it’s a drawback… Anyway, I don’t have to explain my quirk to you- thanks for the pencil but do you have a pen?” Bakugou rolled his eyes, a hand now reaching out for the pencil. “I’ll give you the pen-” He spoke, pen raised with his other hand. “If you explain.” He continued, teasing the pen in front of Himari. She tried snatching it from his hand but she was a little too slow. The brunette girl sighed, grabbing the pencil from his other hand. Bakugou thought she had given up quickly but her body turned to face him, his pencil still in her hand

“My quirk is mana manipulation, right?” Bakugou hummed in agreement, not sure if he really knew what she meant, “Mana, is unique to every individual…” Himari looked around the classroom quickly before her palm began to glisten the color of the pencil he had just given her, “I’m prohibited by law not to remove mana from anything other than living because with physical objects-” Himari paused, the pencil on her palms slowly disappeared into her skin, “They disappear…”

“You’re eyes are white.” Sero blurted, his attention now fully on her instead of the conversation he was just having with Kirishima. The brunette and the blonde quickly darted their eyes at him- as if he had interrupted an intimate moment between them. “Right… My eyes, it’s another drawback…” Her eyes faded from Ivory white back to chocolate brown, she had only explained to Midoriya why her eyes turned white and it made her curl into her body uncomfortably. She knew that the drawback to her quirk made most people doubt her abilities, it made people worry about her and it made her feel small. “You owe me a pencil.” Bakugou said bluntly, cutting off Himari as she was going to explain her white eyes. He leaned back into his chair looking uninterested, watching as she slowly uncurled herself. Himari mouthed thanks to him, gently grabbing the pen from his hand before she turned back to the front slowly.

 __________

“Can anyone tell me which sentence is correct in grammar?! Come on, kiddos! Anyone?! No? OKAY! Yusei, what’s the correct sentence.” The brunette girl looked up at their English teacher, Present Mic, who they recognize as the announcer at the entrance exam when he walked in yelling. Himari squinted at the chalkboard, maybe she was a little blind. “It’s B.” She answered apathetically, leaning back against her chair. “Correct! Thank you for paying attention!” Himari hummed back, continuing to doodle in her notebook.

Most of the school work she got at home was strictly to improve writing and speech in the English language, as well as the history of Japanese literature and all its alphabets. Math was second to most important, she excelled with a 'B' average and was a quick learner about any science and anatomy thanks to her father. Although like it didn’t seem like Himari was paying attention, her paper was perfectly annotated. Subjects on the left and notes on the right, her writing was perfect. “Pst…Yusei.” Sero threw a ball of tape to her table, catching her attention. “Send us the notes after class.” He pointed at the ball of tape that was actually a bunched-up piece of paper. “Us?” She questioned quietly, unraveling the paper to reveal three series of numbers. Sero, Kirishima then Kaminari, a little heart written next to the last boy's name. The girl rolled her eyes, glancing over to them as they exaggeratedly pleaded to her quietly. “All three of you are stupid…” She said bluntly, shoving the paper with numbers in her wallet. “I’ll send them when I get home. I forgot my phone today.”

The bell rings for lunch and the student sigh in relief. Himari turned her body to hand over Bakugou back his pen. “Let me buy you lunch.”

“Like I said woman, I don’t want your shitty money!” He was ready to swat the pen away from her hand, but her grasp held it tight. His hand was on top of hers as he gripped the other half, “Let me rephrase. I’m buying you lunch because you saved my limited edition Kuromi wallet from being stolen by some weirdo.” Himari let go of his pen, watching as her white knuckles regained color. “You said I owed you- so I’m owing you.” She continued, reaching into her backpack to retrieve the wallet she was just talking about. “Come on, the boys are waiting.”

Kirishima, Sero, and Kaminari waited patiently by the door as they watched Himari drag Jirou out of her spot, “Bakugou, nice to hear you're joining.” Sero spoke, earning a cold stare from him, “Shut it, flat face.”

“Or not… Himari! Good, you’re here! Stand between me and Bakugou! I’ll keep Jirou company!” The ravenette wrapped his hand around her wrist, pulling her away from the conversation she was just having with her friend, forcing her to walk beside Bakugou now. “Oh! Okay, I guess I’ll finish my talk with her later…” Himari gave Bakugou a questioning look and he shrugged, annoyed with the group of people who walked beside them.

The two of them walked quietly beside each other as their group kept themselves deep in conversation, “We’ll stay behind to find a table, you guys go ahead.” Himari spoke, standing still in her spot as the rest waved and agreed. She gave them a soft smile before she tilted her head at Bakugou and stared at him, annoyed with his behavior. “Do you have a problem with everyone that’s nice to you?” She asked him, “It’s quite unattractive.” The mutter slipped loudly from her lips, walking ahead of the blonde who now followed her to an empty table. “I’m not making friends with some shitty extras.” He spoke, now sitting across the table from her. “Yet you’re sitting in front of me. Having a conversation with me. Why?”

Bakugou kept quiet for a moment, “Why do your eyes turn white?” He asked bluntly, making Himari tense.

A chime echoed through the intercom speaker, quieting everyone who was swarming inside the cafeteria “Yusei Himari, please head to the teacher's administrative office. Yusei Himari, please head to the teacher's administrative office.” The girl tensed up harder as she heard her name.  Saved by the bell, she thought to herself.

“What do you think that was about?” Kirishima asked behind Himari, startling her in the process. “Um… I don’t know but I’ll see you guys in class if I’m not back.” Jirou nodded, and sat beside Sero as he sat in front of Kaminari who sat beside Kirishima who blocked Bakugou away from the rest of the table, “She did say she forgot her phone, maybe someone came to drop it off.” Jirou spoke, shrugging her shoulders in the process as the students decided to dig in.

_____

Himari skated around the long halls of U.A until she finally found a map that directed her to the administrative office. She picked up her transparent board, watching it as it sparkled back into her skin. The girl took a deep breath in before her palm touched the cold handle. She knocked prior to opening the door and spoke when the door inched open slowly, “Excuse me, I was called-”

“Himi-chan! You forgot your phone at home! You almost gave me a heart attack.”

The brunette froze at the door— her brothers' voice echoing into her ears. Oh god, she thought to herself. The girl took a breath in before pushing the door wide open, staring her brother down, who had a childish grin plastered all over his face. She quietly apologized to the teachers who quietly watched her tip-toe in embarrassment.

“Is this why I was publicly humiliated over the intercom?” Himari asked, armed crossed in front of her brother who stood a couple of feet taller. “Because I forgot my phone? How’d you even know I forgot my phone, you’re never home.” The red-winged hero tensed up, quickly washing it away with a nervous laugh. “Akira-san called me you twerp…” Hawks waved her phone in his hand before she snatched it out of his grasp. “Next time, why don’t you just fly towards the window again you damn, chicken.” His sister scolded loudly, purposefully trying to embarrass her brother- but he laughed loudly before pinching her skin, “Oi! That was a secret between siblings! No outside sources!” He scolded her, earning an eye-roll from the brunette and she continued to bicker with the hero in front of her.

A clearing of the throat made the two bickerings siblings whip their heads around.

Aizawa stood quietly behind his desk, irritated that the two were being loud. “The office please, Yusei… You to Hawks.” He spoke, walking past them to open the door into a more private area. Himari tensed, knowing that her teacher was probably going to scold both of them.

The two siblings sat awkwardly beside each other before Aizawa gathered his words. “Would you two like to explain- what this is?” He asked, leaning against the desk in front of the siblings.

“Adopted siblings.” They stated in unison, Himari pointing at her brother and he pointed at himself. Hawks hooked Himari closer to him, her cheeks squeezing between his forearm and bicep. “Her father took me in years ago.” The top-ranked hero let go of his sister, handing the teacher a card with information. A phone number and the name Yusei Toruu. “I’d like to keep my family safe, Eraserhead. There's only a small group of heroes like us who know.”

The teacher hummed, nodding in agreement. “She mentioned a brother, but this was the last person I was expecting.” Aizawa muttered, shoving the card into his pocket. Making a mental note that he would have to keep the card in young Yusei’s profile folder.

“Awe, Himi-chan, you mentioned me to your Sensei already?~” Hawks teased, pouncing to hug his sister, rocking her side to side. “I’m going to physically hurt you the second I get you to myself, bird brain.” The brunette threatened, ducking underneath his arm and fixing her hair. “I’d like to apologize Aizawa sensei- I didn’t know if I should have shared this information with you or not.” The longe-haired teacher shook his head. “No need. But if it’s alright with you- I’d like to inform principal Nezu about this.” He was no longer talking to Himari but to the pro hero beside her. “Yusei, you’re dismissed.” Himari quickly nodded, giving her brother a side hug before she waved him goodbye.

The two adults quietly watched the door close, “It was dangerous not to tell us about this, Hawks.” Aizawa stated, giving the pro hero a cold stare, but he only shrugged. “She wanted nothing to do with me when she applied here, Himari thought that it would create an opinion with whoever picked the students… She wanted to make it on her own.” Hawks sighed to himself, pinching the bridge of his nose. “I know she can take care of herself… But she’s the only family I got, I trust that her safety is secure under your watch, Eraserhead.” His comment spoke more like a question, but the teacher was more taken aback by his formal bow.

“We will do our best.” He spoke truthfully.

_____

As Himari muttered through the halls, she jotted down the phone numbers Sero had given her earlier today. “Stupid bird, he couldn’t have just left my phone at home. It’s not like it’s the end of the world or anything.”  As lunch was not over yet, she skated down the halls into the cafeteria.

Quickly, she strolled over to the table and continued to look down at her phone, stopping inches away from the bench, and picking up her board again as it disappeared into her skin. Her eyes came back to their original color.

She momentarily stood behind Bakugou, almost startling him when he felt her presence. “You’re breathing down my neck, you poltergeist!” The brunette girl froze, raising a brow before she looked down at the sitting blonde, “Did you just call me poltergeist? Why on earth-”

“You got your phone back!” Jirou exclaimed, her earphone jack pulling her arm to sit beside her.

The second she sat down, the bell rang. Himari whined in defeat “Awe man, I wanted some pork buns… I really wanted those…” She frowned at Jirou who only patted her head awkwardly. “There, there, no need to be sad… You have all the time and money to buy pork buns tomorrow…” Himari sighed and leaned her head on Jirou's shoulders. “But my pork buns…” her words were quiet and sad, making Jirou giggle.

The brunette’s head shot up when the table shook vigorously, Bakugou had quickly gotten up, snatching his backpack in the process before he left. The table quietly watched as he marched away. “What’s his problem now?” Himari asked, quickly stealing some of Kaminari’s fries before he tried swatting her hand away but she was too fast. “He seemed fine before I got here.”

“I think that is his problem. You sit here, I mean.” Kaminari spoke truthfully, trying to steal back his fries before getting swatted on the head by Sero. “No, don’t smack him for being truthful.  Thank you Kaminari, you get a hug now.” Kaminari was quick to lunge at Himari with open arms. “Feel me up and I will murder you.” The girl said, patting the boys back a little rough for his liking. “Noted.” He said immediately, his squeeze on her slowly softening as the bell rang. Himari had her palms against the yellow-haired boy's forehead, somehow unable to pull him off, she chuckled knowing that this was one of the outcomes she expected. “Guys, help me.” The girl pleaded, watching her friends pry Kaminari off her body.

The first thing the darker brunette noticed when she strolled into class with the rest of her friends was that the desk behind hers was empty. She had thought that when Bakugou rushed to leave, was so he could be sitting in his seat before everyone. Himari looked at Midoriya as he shrugged, “Weird~” Himari sang quietly to her friend as she quickly recapped what had happened at lunch. “It was so bad Midoriya-san, he’s so embarrassing! I was just lucky it wasn’t Akira-san, he would have been worse… He called me Himi-chan in front of Eraserhead!” She yelled to him in a whisper, earning a laugh from her friend. “Don’t laugh at me! You’re supposed to console me…” Himari whined, dropping her head into her hands. “Like, I couldn’t even fangirl if I wanted to because he was right in front of me and I froze at the door! How lame of me! I know he’s our teacher but being alone with him and my brother- I wanted to die!” Midoriya patted her head, retracting his touch when she leaned her head against the palm of her hand for support. Himari didn’t know the whole secret between him and All Might and she was fine keeping it that way, but when she caught him glancing over at him during their trials yesterday out in the fields- she confronted him during the time together at lunch yesterday.

Midoriya enjoyed his bowl of katsudon as Himari picked at her curry udon. “You haven’t touched your food.” He noted, his hand covering his lips as he decided to talk with a full mouth. “Is everything okay?” He asked, swallowing beforehand, a cup of water now in hand.

“Are you like, All Might’s illegitimate child or something?”

The boy choked on his water, slamming the cup on the table, almost gasping for air as he coughed. Himari looked at him wide-eyed, a little uninterested that her closest friend was feeling like he was dying. “Midoriya-san, I know we haven’t known each other for a long time, but you’re my best friend… One of the first friends I’ve had in a while so I’d like you to be truthful with me… and I will tell you who my brother is…” The greenette froze in his spot. Himari had mentioned it once that he was a pro hero, but no one he knew had a similar quirk to her or even had a slight appearance to the brunette. “During the trials, he kept looking at you the same way I do…” The boy raised a brow, “Afraid that you’re going to break your arm or something worse…” Himari confessed, finally taking a bite of her food. “A concern for someone we care about.” Midoriya’s cheeks slightly burned at her friendly confession. “Can you stop staring at me like that?” She snapped at him, “I feel like you’re eyes are gonna pop out of your skull any second now.” A quiet pause filled their booth before they burst out laughing at how weirdly nervous they both were.

For a moment Midoriya felt a warmth that he missed. A warmth he recognized when he was still friends with Bakugou when he didn’t need to chase after him when the blonde would reach out for him to play. He was afraid that the feeling was romantic, not wanting to ruin the friendship that had blossomed during the early winter of January. He missed this feeling. Being able to trust someone that it just came easily. The jealousy that once bubbled in his chest faded, if Himari wanted to be friends with Bakugou, he knew he wouldn’t lose her to him.

The warmth was reassuring.

“All Might has been training me since last year, we started a little after I graduated junior high. My quirk developed really late, and we had an encounter… As much as I’d like to explain Yusei-san, it’s a secret between me and All Might, the other details I mean.” Himari nodded, knowing what it was like to not be able to disclose close relationships with pro heroes. The girl took a sip of water before clearing her throat and adjusting herself. “My mom passed away giving birth to me…” She started off, “My dad was overseas in America at the time saving a hero who was number one, from what I still hear she’s still number one in the charts…” Himari could feel her friend who began to sulk in his seat as he listened attentively. “When he came back Akira-san was in the delivery room with her trying to call my father… ever since then my father has drowned himself in work- he basically lives in the hospital now… Akira-san says it’s because he can’t bear to be in a house my mother built from the ground up but I think it’s because he feels guilty… I think I was only a couple of months old when he took in my brother, a pro hero had brought him to the hospital and he wouldn’t even dare to let go of my father… Years later I talked to my brother about it and asked him why he thought he brought him in when he couldn’t even bother to stay with his own daughter…” Himari dryly laughed, “He said that he was my personal fallen angel… At the time I didn’t know what it meant but now I think I do.” Midoriya watched as she leaned back in her seat, taking a deep breath in before leaning over the table and whispering in his ear. “The boy who was brought into the hospital is Japan’s prestigious number 3.” She leaned back, her brown ones catching his green ones. Knowing he was seconds away from yelling, Himari stuffed his mouth with rice. “Say one word and you die.”

Midoriya could see multiple similarities between Himari and Bakugou, but she would never tell her that.

He quickly nodded, her hand moving with his head as he also chewed the rice that she had shoved in his mouth. “You’ll get to formally meet him one of these days but probably not soon. You know, he’s a pro hero and all.” Himari’s mood changed with the mention of her brother, calmer, and more relaxed. Midoriya swallowed his food, “So he was adopted into your family?” The girl nodded in response, reaching for her noodles, feeling more relieved that they finally knew each other's secrets. “Yeah, we grew up together. So everything you could think of siblings doing, we’ve probably done it… maybe a little differently since he did train me pretty harshly.” Midoriya raised a brow in concern. “Don’t worry, it was all agreed upon. My training as a kid was pretty easy but then as I got older he asked if I wanted to train like a hero- he always made sure like every hour if I wanted to back out or not… I never had the urge to say no…”

“It all makes more sense now.”

“What does?”

“Why you’re insane!”

“I’m not insane?”

“Yusei-san, you laughed when I smacked your face with a polearm!”

Himari rolled her eyes, a giggle escaping her lips, “Maybe…” She smiled, enjoying the rest of her curry udon.

“You’re my best friend too Yusei-san.”

“Ew… Eat the rest of your Katsudon before I steal it.”

Bakugou walked into the class seconds before the bell rang, an irritated look plastered on his face like always. Himari glanced his way, making the mistake of her eyes catching his. Her eyes quickly darted down to her desk, embarrassed that she was caught, especially because he had left Bakugou hanging with the rest of her friends. The students around them could feel her uneasiness, it was something she couldn’t control with her quirk. Sero poked her with a pen, tipping his head up, “You good?” He asked, Kirishima, Kaminari, and Jirou now looking at her. It was like Sero was their own personal messenger. She nodded, her lips pursed together as she drifted again to looking down at her desk.

The students sat quietly for a moment before the door slammed open, boys and girls darting their heads toward the door. “I AM HERE!” Midoriya, Himari, and Bakugou all froze in the process. “Oh god…” Himari mumbled, dropping her head down onto her desk. She could hear Kaminari and Kirishima in excitement as he marched to the podium. “Welcome to the most important class at U.A High, think of it as hero-ing 101! We will be observing your own abilities as groups of two’s! But first, to fight like a hero, you must look like a hero!” The side walls of their classroom hissed as they slowly began to open. Himari raised a brow, thinking it was a little concerning that they hid stuff in the walls. “I will begin to go down the list of names and the numbers that correlate to you. Once you have grabbed your case please make your way to the locker rooms and then to Ground Beta!” Himari leaned back in her seat knowing that she would be last to grab her suitcase.

When Jirous’ name was called she grabbed her suitcase and sat on Himari’s desk, “I’m excited to see your suit from that sketch you showed me, it looks sick.” The brunette raised a brow, “Is that a good thing or a bad thing?” she asked bluntly, trying to peak inside Jirou’s case, the purple-haired girl smacked her hand away. “One of these days I’m going to teach you all the poor people's slang.” Himari giggled, rolling her eyes at the girl before her name was called.

As they made their way to the locker room, Himari quickly removed her clothes, her matching undergarments being the only thing left. “That’s a nasty scar you got there.” A voice perked behind her as a finger crossed the length of her scar, making her back arch. Himari’s cheeks burned bright pink, shivers growing down her back. “Ah! Y-yeah, I got it during training…” Himari almost squealed while glancing beside her, the pink-skinned girl who sat beside Kaminari stood fairly close, her grin plastered on her face before she reached her hand out. “Mina Ashido, nice to meet you!”

“Mina, don’t you think it would be more appropriate if you two were clothed?” Uraraka asked, slipping on her chunky boots. “Don’t be a perv, Mina.” A girl with green hair croaked beside the lighter brunette student. “Let’s all be civil…” The girl who sat behind Bakugou’s empty seat started, “We are the only girls in the class so let us all get along. Mina, apologize to Yusei-san.” Himari recognized the girl, her family was equally prestigious as her own. Being dragged along to formal events by Akira-san was something she was embarrassed about because she was always caught dancing with him in a separate room- making a fool of the prestigious families who surrounded them. Himari remembers catching eyes with her one day after she and Akira-san got caught, she thought it was strange because all she remembered feeling from her was jealousy.

“Oh no, please, there’s no need. It’s not like I’m hiding my scars…” Himari did a slow 360 turn to show the girls around her each and every scar she had. “These are from my training. I’ve worked hard to get where I am so I don’t think much of it.” She knew her body was ruined in the eyes of Japan's beauty standards but Himari didn’t want to be a glam hero, like the way her brother showcased himself at times. “You’re so cute! We’re going to be good friends!” Mina hooked her arm around the girl, who still stood in her underwear. “Please don’t call me that…”  The darker brunette grimaced, politely shoving Mina away so she could change.

Himari's costume consisted of a full-body suit that camouflage down into her boots, a low neckline that exposed nothing more than her collarbone, and a bit of cleavage. One of her sleeves missing and the other was wrapped around her arm completely down to her middle finger, wrapped securely around like a ring. Her back was exposed slightly as it was cut out with the symbol that embarked Hawk’s torso, the logo on his headphones also marked from the bottom of her left breast down to her hipbone. It was subtle enough that people wouldn’t really notice unless they really paid attention.

Her suit was the only thing Hawks begged her to make, his agency was well known to make top-class materials and all he did was beg for months on end until she agreed… She was happy with the results.

[A/N: if the description is a little weird, her suit is very similar to MCU Natasha in Avengers Endgame obvi missing a sleeve]

Once the students gathered in front of Ground Beta, Himari caught up with Uraraka, “Have you seen Midoriya?” She asked, but the girl shook her head. The dark brunette sighed, “You look great by the way! The pink compliments your cheeks!”

“Ah! How embarrassing, I feel like I should have asked for something darker, I feel like I stand out too much!” Himari shook her head, her arms reaching out in front of chest, creating an X. “No, no, no! You look cute! Don’t think otherwise, it fits you really well.”

“Thank you Yusei-san, it means a lot. You look so beautifully mysterious!”

“Uraraka-san, you’re making me blush…” The two girls giggled to themselves, Himari sensing her friend's courageous mana behind her. She whipped her head towards the feeling, raising a brow. “Midoriya-san why are you in a bunny suit? Is this an homage to Miruko?” Uraraka elbowed the girl, making her lean towards her to whisper into her ear. Himari stifled a laugh. “Oh… that definitely makes more sense.”

The greenette waved to his classmates. “Take the mask off Midoriya-san you’re scaring me.” Himari began wrestling with him to take his mask off but he swatted her hands, “St-Stop, stop it Yusei-san. Leave me alone, Yusei-san!” His hands held onto hers as she put her weight into her lunge. “Yu-chan! Get away from me!” Himari froze, her weight decreasing in the process.

“I haven’t heard that name in years!” she giggled, hooking her arm behind Midoriya’s neck. “You should call me that more often, it’s nice to hear.” Midoriya hummed in agreement, Himari following the rest of the students in front of them. She let go of her friend once they entered the building, catching up with the three boys. Sero and Kirishima smacked Kaminari, who seemed to be gawking at her but Bakugou scoffed and turned away. “Bodysuit bros.” Sero elbowed her bicep, catching her attention. “You all look very cool. I like the abs, Kirishima.” She said bluntly, earning an annoyed groan from Bakugou. Himari looked his way, a blush spreading through her cheeks. She had forgotten for a minute that Bakugou was naturally attractive when his mouth didn’t make any noise and his suit was making him look a lot better than he usually did. “You know, there's a saying that say’s the quieter you are, the prettier you are- you should probably abide by those words Bakugou.” The words that came out of her lips were as apathetic as ever, making his head snap toward her. “What did you say to me?!”  His gauntlets almost knocked her over as he whirled to face her.

“May I have all of your attention please!” All Might announced, saving Himari and Bakugous' fight for another day. They looked at each other, simultaneously crossing their arms and scoffing as they darted their eyes away. “We will split you up into groups of two, because we are short of a student, someone will have the advantage of being in a group of three. When I call your names, please find your partners.” All Might raffle their names and begin calling out groups, “Team F will be Sero Hanta and Yusei Himari.” Himari high-fived the friend who stood beside her. “We’re gonna kick ass.” Sero noted, a grin plastered on their faces.

“Who the hell is Iida?!” Bakugou barked out loud, earning a chuckle from their group. “Engine with the glasses.” Himari pointed, speaking exactly his language. He swatted her hand away but nodded at her in thanks. He earned an eye-roll from her as she shuffled back to Sero. “Surprised he hasn’t scared you away.” He whispered down to her ear. Himari looked up at the slim boy beside her and shrugged. She had her reasoning behind her actions, but she wasn’t very willing to tell, although she knew that he overheard Jirou why she wanted to be friends with him. “Don’t pretend you didn’t harass poor Jirou into overhearing my conversation yesterday.” The tall boy tensed, “I have my reasons, Sero…” She whispered loudly enough for him to hear. He just hummed, her face was too blank for him to tell what she was thinking.

“Now that I have you all paired up, I will explain the rules.”

With all students paired up and broken into teams of twelve, two pairs will fight against each other, half villains and half heroes. Villains will walk upstairs to the higher level to guard a (fake) nuclear weapon they intend to use on the heroes and they will have to stop their scheme. If the heroes are able to stop them before time runs out, or able to be in the vicinity of the core weapon, they win. If the villain keeps their weapon in place and has the heroes caught in time, they win.

The teams are dropped into a lot, their names being shuffled through the computer screen All Might stood behind. All the children stood tense until their names finally popped up.

Sero Hanta & Yusei Himari VS Todoroki Shoto & Shoji Mezo

Midoriya Izuku & Uraraka Ochako VS Bakugou Katsuki & Iida Tenya

Himari tensed up at the screen.

Had she not recognized Endeavor's own son in her class? She whipped her head around the room, looking for the bi-colored-haired boy. “You okay dude?” Sero asked, looking down at her in concern. “Do you know what Todoroki looks like?” She asked, glancing up at him before looking behind him once more. “Uh yeah, he’s in that weird ice suit with the red eye. Why? Do you know him?”

“Something like that.”

Himari tensed, she knew the boy when she was much, much younger. He showed up to events with his father, mother, and three other siblings. They were well-behaved children who always asked her to join their game when they noticed how bored she was. But one day, the youngest Todoroki stop showing up, then the eldest, and then all of them together.

The Todoroki family stopped showing up to events, just Endeavor.

She remembers the day she grew the courage to ask, but the hero brushed her off, taking her back to Akira-san and scolding him in the process. Himari missed the eldest son the most, although he teased her continuously at these parties he never really left her side. She recalled that he said something like, “you’re just like me…” but never knowing what he meant and she never would. The last time she ever heard of him again was when Akira-san had to explain to her months later that one of his children had passed away, a boy named Touya, the boy who played and teased her about being smaller than his baby brother.

“I knew his brother better...” Himari informed Sero, as he hummed, his eyes drifting towards the student who he once pointed at. “I’m also not okay, by the way, Midoriya has to fight Bakugou. This isn’t gonna end well…”

Notes:

I LIED, I DIDN'T PUT THE FIGHTING SCENE IM SORRY THIS GOT SO LONG I DIDN'T WANT IT TO BE OVER 7K IM SORRY

It will be in the next chapter tho.

not edited clearly

A further explanation of how Himari didn't recognize Todoroki, in the beginning, might be in future chapters or even the next one, not sure but I will explain. It 100% ties in as to why her eyes go white while her quirk is activated.

Chapter 6: Six

Notes:

Okay so if anyone is confused about what Himari's quirk is supposed to be like- It's exactly kinda like Steven's from Steven universe... just iridescent mana and when it disappears it's like a bubble popping but it has more sparkle and goes back into her skin.

this is about 6k words btw

Chapter Text

Himari stood on edge watching her best friend on the screen in front of them. So many thoughts whirled through her mind. She wanted her friend to be safe, but knowing Bakugou, this fake challenge was going to turn into a war zone. She was more worried about All Might, a freshly retired hero, teaching students— he knew no boundaries when it came to a battle, someone who went all out during a fight. As excited as she was to be taught by a pro, she knew it was going to be as familiar as her training with Hawks— until blood is shed.

The first time the pro hero had swung at her so hard it made her nose bleed, it took her a moment to realize what had just happened. Not once had he struck her so violently, “What. The. Fuck!” Himari yelled, her hands cupped under her chin, spitting the blood that trickled down her lips. “Are you fucking insane?!” Her eyes were bloodshot— her small body filling up with rage. “You were slow—”

He never realized that she had a makeshift polearm on hand— he was ready to scold her until it struck his jaw. “You. Were. Slow.” Himari’s words were spitting venom. “We’re done for the day.” She declared, the polearm dazzling back into her skin, leaving her brother stranded alone in the training room as she rushed off to Akira, knowing he would console her.

After that day Hawks swore that he would warn her if he would be as harsh as that day— but her training now consisted of that only.

“I'll be fine, Yu-san.” Midoriya's voice echoed in her thoughts— she shook them away, she knew he wouldn’t be fine by the end of the challenge. His hand squeezed her shoulder in reassurance.

Bakugou could feel her darting eyes when he walked out of the building with Iida, nor did he care— he was set on prying everything Deku picked up with his newly found power. Figuring out that he had a quirk all this time, he was left feeling deceived. He was no longer the ‘special’ one between the two— they were now equals, but Bakugou was going to show him who really came out on top.

“Bakugou’s one scary-looking guy.” Kaminari’s voice perked into Himari’s thoughts. She turned her head to notice that they were no longer looking at her in worry but at the screen. They watched as he and Iida traveled up the stairs, a conversation starting between the two as they made it to the top floor. Unable to hear, Himari squinted at the screen, reading the movement of Bakugou's lips as they moved. “I’ll be right back…” The dark brunette muttered over to her partner Sero, and he nodded once in agreement.

She moved through the small crowd of students, still watching the screen, Himari caught eyes with All Might for a second— he smiled. “Lady Yusei, how is your father?” His voice was quiet, afraid the students around would hear although so close.

“Absent.” Himari blurted, earning an awkward laugh from the pro hero. She eyed him, knowing that she had made him feel awkward, “But he’s fine… You don’t need to worry, we still know nothing of your issues .” All Might tensed up beside the girl, her speech and her demeanor were always so artificial to him. She reminded him much of her brother— he had met them multiple times in his other form many years ago.

Himari knows All Might and Toshinori as two different people— he would have never guessed that his little secret would continue for so long.

When All Might was struck by One for All, Yusei Torū was the first man they called for help. The doctor's delicate hands pressed lightly against the broken skin unable to heal the wound. “Strange…” He muttered, “It looks to be… implemented into your body somehow.” Torū hovered his hands over the wound, trying to remove the mana from the slight darkness that was forming around the broken skin. “That feels like it’s doing something.” Toshinori winced, his thinner body jolting away from his hand. The doctor nodded, quickly writing a note of that on his tablet. “I’d like you to come for monthly visits… Your frequent visits will create an uproar here at the hospital, so please visit me in my office.” The brunette doctor handed him a note with his address. “I’d like to further investigate what we can do.”

Once a month Yusei Torū would be home.

Once a month he would be home for work.

Once a month he ate lunch with his daughter and adoptive son awkwardly. Himari sipped on her tea before stealing her brother's food to try for herself, moments before he did the same. Torū watched his kids quietly as they conversed with themselves. He had realized over time that his children had distanced themselves from him and his work. Himari was now 13 and Hawks was 18 and quickly climbing up the ranks as a pro hero— He missed so much, and he had no one to blame but himself. Torū drowned himself in work after the loss of his wife, his partner, the one person in his life he never wanted to lose. He didn’t scold his children for making the choice to save themselves, he would have done the same. His heart ached, watching his children.

“Dad?” Himari called, his two children now staring at him curiously. “You okay?” She didn’t sound worried when she asked this time, today— the worry she had for her father when she was a little girl was gone.  “You two have grown. I’ve missed so much.” He spoke truthfully, not expecting the taken-back looks on their faces. Hawks cleared his throat, side-eyeing his sister as she was frozen in place— eyes turning white, staring at her father in disbelief. She bit the inside of her cheek, her jaw clenching, her expression turning more sour as she let her thoughts linger.

“Your client is here.” She spoke toughly, the utensil she once had in hand evaporating into dust, her jaw unclenching when her brother's warm hand pressed against her shoulder.

As her eyes turned back to their original color, she glanced at the pro hero who slowly approached the table. “Please don’t allow their negative tension to ruin your dinner All Might, you’re our guest tonight,” Akira spoke behind him, giving Himari a glare.

Dinners like this happened frequently.

Himari slowly began to realize over the years after so many dinners that her father would not change, but she could never allow herself to blame him, she allowed herself to be angry— but never towards her father.

“I came up here because I wanted to try and lip-read their conversation,” Himari told All Might, pointing at the blonde bomb threat on the screen. “I don’t know how much Midoriya-san has told you about our friendship, but if you don’t keep an eye on him— I will.” The teacher looked down at his student, taken back at the confidence in her voice. “He’s the first friend I’ve had in a while… so no matter where he goes, I’ll follow to make sure he’s okay.”

This was a side the pro hero had not met before. “I know we probably didn’t get off on the right foot before but I’d like to start over… for Midoriya-san of course.” It made him chuckle as her confident demeanor change back into something shyer, more like the girl he heard stories about. She tucked a hairpiece behind her ear, clearing her throat as she waited for a response.

His heavy hand fell lightly on her shoulder, squeezing lightly as he looked down, a spark of hope in her dark eyes, “For Midoriya.” he spoke softly. She nodded, excusing herself to walk back to her friends.

“What was that?” Jirou asked, pulling her wrist with her headphone jacks, holding her steady as she almost tripped over her own two feet. “Pull me any harder and I'm gonna land on my face…” Himari scolded lightly, brushing off the scuff on her shoes. “He knows my family…Rich people have secrets too.”  Jirou scoffed, a laugh escaping her lips.

“Oh! They’re heading into the building!” A student called.

The two girls snapped their heads to the screen. Midoriya, with the mask still on, walked into the building slowly. Himaris' eyes darted to the other screens, scanning for the blonde when she saw a bright flash on the screen she was looking at previously.

The class watches as Bakugou’s blast sears off half of Midoriya's mask as he saves Uraraka.

Bakugou reaches out to attack once more, keeping the students at the edge of their seats as Midoriya grabs his arm— tossing him over his shoulder and straight to the floor.

The classroom gasped, winced, and cheered.

A laugh escapes Himaris' lips before she quickly slapped her mouth shut. “There’s no way he just did that…” She said in disbelief, a smile hiding behind her hand. They watched as the two ran away, Bakugou was down on the floor, taken aback by what just happened. “I think Uraraka is going off on her own” Sero says nearby, elbowing his fellow classmates but Himari kept her eyes on Bakugou as he continued to chase down Midoriya.

Himari watches as her friend hides to catch his breath. He’s thinking of a plan, and it’s written all over his face that he’s worried. He knows that Bakugou went rogue and went against Iida to pursue his own plan. She watched as her best friend decide to continue to run until Bakugou was inches away, ready to attack. He’s yelling something at Midoriya as he causes the building they're in to shake. All Might’s voice echoes through the room as he warns him to not use his power at its full potential– but not even knowing Bakugou well, the whole class knew this was going to end well.

Himari quickly turned to face Jirou, “How likely would you be able to hear their conversation if you plugged these into the floor?” Yusei grabbed her headphone jacks but her friend stopped her, shaking her head, “There's too much in between for me to hear anything…” The brunette sighed, feeling slightly defeated. They faced the cameras again, feeling the area shake due to Bakugou’s blast, giving Uraraka the chance to float toward the weapon.

All Might warns Bakugou once more as the students wince, watching as he dominates Midoriya in close-quarter combat.

Himari bit at her nails, she was right. Although a hero, All Might was just as stubborn as the rest.

Bakugou yelled at Midoriya again, the screen muting their rage as they fought. It was clear that Midoriya was weaker than Bakugou when it came to close-quarter combat, he was smaller and weaker but he was equally as smart. He could keep up with him just enough. He reminded himself that this wasn’t as bad as training with Himari. She was equally, or if not more, relentless as Bakugou— they had a fire in their eyes that wouldn’t burn out, no matter what.

Himari could tell Midoriya was becoming irritated, she's seen that look before. The day he snapped and knocked her nose with her own polearm, whatever was going to happen next— worried Himari deeply.

She winced again as he slammed her best friend into the ground after using his explosions from his free hand to build speed and strength. “You gotta admit Yusei— he’s kinda good.” Sero regretted his words immediately when she had no quirky response— if looks could kill.

Bakugou demanded Midoriya once again to use his quirk against him.

Knowing that he couldn't defeat his old friend at close range, he used his quirk to ricochet a blast of air to smash the ceilings from every floor, Bakugou’s blast throwing them to opposite sides of the building.

The students watched as All Might hesitated to stop the boys, “Oh my god…” Himari gasped, keeping herself grounded as the ground shook. Luckily the cameras were still functioning as the smoke faded away from the screen, Jirou reached out for Himari as she ran out of the building, eyes casted white. She could hear the warning from All Might but she ignored it, dashing towards the demolished building her friend was in.

Himari focused on Midoriyas’ mana as she walked through the smoky building. Waving her arm to spread away the smoke as she walked towards the person who stood in front of Midoriya's unconscious body.

Bakugou leaned forward, holding himself up before he felt like he was going to fall, but his body never collapsed. “I’ve got you…” Her voice was apathetic, her hand squeezing around his arm. The blonde fell quiet, still looking at his opponent. He was left in disbelief as he had really injured his old friend— his rival now. “You’ve gotta relax, you’re hyperventilating.” Her voice seemed distant as he flung her arm off him, “Watch it, psychopath! I’m trying to help you…” He could feel her arms wrap against his own as she kept him steady. “I shouldn’t even be helping you…” She muttered.

Himari quickly helped him out of the building, basically handing him off to All Might as she rushed back in to grab her best friend as the pro hero didn’t call out for her— knowing it wouldn’t stop her.

Midoriya could faintly see the outline of his best friend in front of him. “Wakey, wakey. I need to know if you’re dead or not…” Her voice was full of worry as Himari’s hand glowed over his eyes to gain a reaction.

The greenette groaned and Himari’s cold hands touched his face, “Thank gods…” She muttered in relief, “Let’s get you out of here…”

The brunette watched as the school’s robot assistants picked up her best friend. She glanced over at the pro hero, asking for permission to follow her friend— he nodded, and Himari caught up quickly, her fingers pressing over Midoriya's pulse point to feel his heart slowly beat— she sighed in relief.

Himari sat quietly inside Midoriya’s curtained space. Recovery Girl introduced herself to the girl moments before and gave her a lollipop, telling her that she needed to calm her nerves. Her legs crossed, hands on her lap as she fiddles with them, “It’ll do you no good to stay here and worry, dear.” Himari turned to face the small woman with a sad smile. The brunette sat quietly as she thought to herself, “I will call you in once he wakes, would that make you feel better?” Recovery girl watched as her eyes drifted over to her best friend, hesitating before she spoke. “That would be great, thank you.” Himari quickly bounced back on her feet and bowed to the woman before her, “Thank you for taking care of him.”

The young girl quickly dashed out of the room. She ran and jumped through flights of stairs before reaching the exit door and pushing herself into the air, she didn’t hesitate to create her wings mid-jump. Himari enjoyed the wind in her hair as she dashed back into ground beta, finding a familiar face still outside.

He squinted his eyes as he felt the harsh wind blow right at him, “Sorry, can never really control the wind!” a voice above him called. He glanced above him to stare at nothing but the sky, his head tilted to the side, wondering if the blast had really damaged his head that bad. “I’m literally beside you—” Startled, he swung at Himari. She breathed a laugh, backing up from the blonde. “Is that why you called me, poltergeist? Because I show up out of nowhere?” Bakugou scoffed, his head darting away from her as he crossed his arms.

They stood beside each other quietly.

“He’s fine by the way—”

“You should probably go inside… Soy sauce face was worried that you’d left him.” Bakugou had interrupted her mid-sentence, a breath caught in her chest before she exhaled and nodded, hesitantly walking into the building before she looked back at him one more time.

“You made it back! Good! We’re up next!” Sero wasted no time in pulling her beside him as she took one step into the building. His tape unraveled from her waist as their friends watched Bakugou slowly walk back into the building, looking less guilty than he actually felt, and Himari could feel the change in his mana.

He watched Himari and Sero walk out together as they headed toward the other building. On the cameras the students watched quietly as she began to explain her quirk, her eyes turning white in the process. “Does anybody know what her power really is?” Kaminari asked his group of friends.

Bakugou and Jirou caught eyes for only a second before he scoffed and she rolled her eyes. “Okay, you two, spill.” Kirishima announced, his body turning to look at the both of them. “I don’t know anything about that extra!” The blonde barked at the redhead. Jirou just shrugged, side-eyeing Bakugou— wondering why he wouldn’t explain her powers.

“5 minutes are up! Heroes, you may enter the building!”

Todoroki warned his partner not to follow him in, the air turning crisp as he walked inside, causing Shoji to shiver.

The announcement startled Himari and Sero. “Remember what I told you okay?” The tall boy nodded quickly, now dangling above the weapon. The girl's eyes flashed pearly white again, feeling the building suddenly get colder as she walked down a hall. She snickered, “Oh Todoroki~” She began to sing down the hall. “How about we play tag like old times?” The Bi-colored haired boy raised a brow, quickly making his ice advance towards her— engulfing the building in ice. Todoroki tip-toed, walking slowly towards the ice he sealed his classmate in, it started glistening.

A blast of ice debris infested his sight, a bright light coming through as he kept his ground. The ice slowly disappeared, revealing to the students that Himari seemed unbothered by the ice that surrounded her. They watched as the ice particles danced on her skin, absorbing the material as she cracked her neck from how tense she was for a moment.

Her white eyes caught his Bi-colored ones. “That wasn’t really nice…” She spoke calmly, stepping out of the ice seal she was in. “I thought you would remember me too…” Todoroki watched the brunette girl in front of him slowly disappear and become transparent, “Now, Sero!”

The tape student heard her voice in his earpiece and broke the crystal orb he had around him, without it, he would have been frozen.

Todoroki grew frustrated as Himari struck him when she was transparent. She would suddenly appear in front of him and disappear a second before he could trap her in ice. “Come out and fight!” He yelled, turning his head in every direction as her feet made noise once it was in contact with ice. With a lucky shot, Todoroki’s ice grazed her shoulder, causing her to tumble slightly and lose her focus.

“Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.” Kirishima winced, his friends nodding in agreement. Bakugou looked at the screen cautiously- looking at the palm of her hand glow over the ice she landed on. “She’s got him.” He spoke quietly to himself— Jirous's ear twitched slightly as he heard him, watching the screen even closer.

Todoroki reached out his hand towards Himari, his palm facing her ready to freeze her once again. He watched as she pathetically tried to get up, not realizing that from the palm of her hand, her polearm was forming. She began to laugh “Took you long enough…” a figure swung through the ceiling, quickly giving her a high five as she reached her arm up quickly, the figure slowly disappearing like she once did. The invisible figure, who was Sero, quickly wrapped Todoroki in tape— causing him to drop to the floor.

“Sorry dude, I got lost.” Sero’s voice spoke beside her, as she grabbed at the mana that surrounded him and he slowly appeared. “So what do we do about his partner?” Sero asked the girl beside him who stretched her shoulders. “Hold that thought…” Himari disappeared again for a couple of seconds before Shoji slowly walked into the building, his arms raised in defeat— Himari pointing her katana at his back as she followed him in.

The students who watched them chatted among themselves about their teamwork. “Team villain wins!” All Might announced, startling Himari once again.

She tip goes around Todoroki who glared up at her as she cut him out of the tape. “I know you probably don’t remember me but I used to be friends with you and your siblings… I kinda just remembered myself…”

“I’m not here to make friends.” He spoke bluntly, pushing away the hand she held towards him as he picked himself up. Himari pursed her lips together and nodded, letting him leave the building.

The brunette girl headed over back to her partner who now chatted with Shoji, “Sorry for threatening you back there.” Himari interrupted, smiling softly at the masked student in front of her, katana dispersing back into her palm.

“It looks like you guys got some awesome chemistry!” Kaminari teased, watching as the two students came back to their group. Himari rolled her eyes, quickly disappearing to smack him beside the head. She reappeared next to Bakugou as he turned his head towards her as he laughed, unknown to him.

She watched as he hid his laugh, a smile slowly appearing on her lips.  Himari appeared again as he cleared his throat and composed himself, she was going to keep that moment to herself. “You’ve got a nice laugh Bakugou.”

“Shut it, poltergeist!

They stood close together, quietly, as they watched more students fight against one another.

“You should get that checked out.” He suggested, breaking the silence, looking at her grazed shoulder that once ached. Himari looked up at him as he looked at the screen, “And while you’re at it, check up on that damn Deku, you’ve been tense the second you left him… That’s why half and half got you.”

Himari was slightly taken aback by his sudden behavior, still looking up at him, “You’re not a bad person… you just need to figure that out for yourself.”

“Shut up before I kick your ass and send you to Recovery Girl myself.”

She laughed before making her way over to All Might— his ruby eyes followed her as she headed out of the building, her hand gently holding her injured shoulder.

“Oh good, you’re here— I was about to call you.” Recovery girl informed, walking the girl over to her friend, noticing the burn on her shoulder. “Hold on there little lady! Sit down.” Himari was pulled into a chair by the older woman “Ice burn?” She questioned, the brunette nodded. “I don’t need you coming in injured when I have this one to worry about.” The woman spoke, nodding her head towards Midoriya's closed curtains.

“I'm still awake, Recovery Girl.” He whined, scratching his cheek over the bandaids. Himari chuckled, wincing as the woman before her, pressed a bandaid over the broken skin. “Use this every night until there’s no more scabbing… You can see him now.” The young girl quickly dashed to the other side of the room to spread the curtains open.

“Should I prepare for this to be usual?” Himari asked, grabbing a seat to make herself comfortable. Midoriya laughed nervously at her question and rolled her eyes, “I’ll take that as a yes…” she muttered to herself, fixing Midoriya’s nest of hair before she sat down.

“Oh! How was your fright?! I missed it!” As he was about ready to jump out of his bed. Himari quickly rushed to stop him— a small shield that kept him from hurting himself as he tried snapping up.“Slow down tiger… I’ll tell you all about it but I need you to relax, yeah?” She got up from her seat, putting her hands underneath Midoriya’s armpits to lift him up slowly so he could sit upright comfortably. “H-How are you able to do that so easily?” He’s flustered at the action, easily forgetting that although she was small but could easily carry two times her weight. “I absorbed a lot of mana during my fight with Todoroki, his ice had a lot of energy so it keeps me stronger for a couple of hours before it burns of course.” Midoriya nodded away as she continuously babbled about her teamwork with Sero.

Although she was worried from the second she knew he had to fight Bakugou, somehow she could feel something changed with the both of them.

Midoriya immediately seemed more eager, more unstoppable.

Bakugou seemed like he was ready to listen, maybe not take anything you say under consideration, but he might be ready to take some constructive criticism.

Himari slowly smiled as she continuously spoke to her best friend— a smile growing on his lips as well.

__________

“Alright, kittens—” Recovery girl spoke, causing Himari and Midoriya to look at each other with questionable faces. “It is towards the end of the day, you may run back to your class and get your things to go home.” The little woman gave them a slip and a lollipop before they bowed to her.

“Thank you for taking care of us.” The students said in unison, trading lollipop flavors with each other as they walked out together.

Once Himari’s foot reached the door frame, she was bombarded by a hug from Jirou, pulling her away from Midoriya as she apologized. He exhaled from the fright the girl gave her, releasing the squeeze he had on his chest. The greenette strolled to his seat, wondering why there was a tray of pork buns on Himari’s table— he immediately noticed the empty seat behind hers. “Does anyone know where Kacchan went?” Midoriya asked out loud, quickly picking up his things and throwing them in his bag, the class was confused as to who he was referring to.

“He means Bakugou.” Himari quickly informed before a wave of clarity hit the students.

“He just left, man!” Kirishima informed, “If you leave now you might just catch up to him.”

Midoriya's eyes quickly caught Himari’s, “I’ll take your stuff and  meet you down there, go!” She reassured, waving him off as he ran out of the classroom before yelling, “You left the pork buns on your desk!”

Sero, Kirishima, Kaminari, Jirou, and Himari all looked at each other strangely, “Did he say pork buns?” The blonde lightning head asked, asking for clarification. “Did your brother bring you lunch or something?” Sero asked, earring a shrug from Kirishima and Jirou.

Himari turned to face her desk, a small tray of pork buns sitting on top. Her head tilted, confused.

“Awe man, I wanted some pork buns… I really wanted those…” She frowned at Jirou who only patted her head awkwardly.

A smile crept on her lips slightly, “I bet it was probably my brother! I did tell him he wasted my lunch… he must have felt bad.” She turned around to smile softly at her friend and they nodded in response, commenting that it was so obvious.

Himari distanced herself to slowly make her way over to her desk, eyeing the pork buns. Reading the label, she smiled. “Spicy pork buns… hot.” She recollected the time Midoriya informed her that Bakugou liked his food extra spicy and for some reason, Himari took it upon herself to eat her udon extra spicy that day— she deeply regretted it later. It was easy to rule out who was the culprit when she was the only person who saw a good side to Bakugou, she smiled to herself.

With her belongings and Midoriyas in hand, she waved off her friends quickly before she exited the classroom to chance down Midoriya.

She saw that he was frozen in place, standing in front of Bakugou. Himari leaned in closer to the class, “Is Bakugou crying?” She muttered to herself, quickly making her way down the building, dodging any students that were in her way by sliding down the handles.

As she reached outside, she froze. Himari watched as Bakugou swatted All Might's hand away, yelling something that sounded incoherent to her. Bakugou's eyes glanced her way as he turned to face the detection he was once heading.

What awkward timing she had.

Himari sulked as she tiptoed behind Midoriya, “What was that all about?” she asked, startling him to the point he jumped away from her, his arms held up in defense. “Sorry…” She apologized softly, handing him his bag. “I think Kyota has been waiting for me, did you want a ride home?” The greenette shook its head, taking his backpack from her shoulder. “I think I need some time to myself if that's okay…” Himari nodded, “Just text me when you get home safely.” Her best friend nodded before watching her skate towards the main road, waving awkwardly at All Might as she passed him.

Kyota quickly left her seat as she saw Himari approaching on her makeshift skateboard. Moments before she reached the car, the young student jumped off her board to wrap her driver in a big hug. “I’m tired…” Himari whined, snuggling her head onto the woman’s chest. “You look tired, Himi-chan… How about we get Akira to prepare some tea before you get home?”

“He’s probably already making some as we speak… we should get home before he yells at us for being late.” Kyota kissed the girl's forehead before squeezing her tightly, letting her go moments later to open the passenger door. The young brunette threw her bag towards the back and plopped herself down into the seat.

She was happy to be heading home for the day.

Although Himari enjoyed school so far, it took a toll on her more than she would have liked. This was a new type of lifestyle she had to get used to after being homeschooled for years. She felt lucky to have found a good friend like Midoriya, even Sero and Jirou. Her head leaned into the window, the road was smooth, she could rest a little and enjoy the view.

As they inched closer to home, Himari rolled down the window to catch the breeze, her short hair dancing with the wind. The sun hit her face and she sighed in relief, she was happy again. As they came to a red light, Himari glanced to the sidewalk to watch the pedestrian pass, catching a glimpse of fiery carnelian eyes.

They froze momentarily.

“Hey.” Himari greeted abruptly, actually almost scaring Bakugou. He ignored her, “Thank you for the pork buns.” she swallowed momentarily knowing the light would change soon. “Don’t know what you’re talking about poltergeist.” He shrugged, shoving his hands into his pockets as he looked at her apathetically, she squinted at him— questioning his demeanor.

Himari remembered that she saw him cry. Her heart ached just a bit. She smiled softly.

The light changed, “I owe you big time.” The car slowly rolled forward, “Damn right shitty extra!” He yelled, loud enough for her to hear as they drove off.

She giggled, leaning back into her seat, rubbing her cheeks to feel the blush— but then she suddenly realized who was in the car with her. “WHO WAS THAT?!” Kyota yelled, her head switching between looking at Himari quickly and then at the road. Her high-pitched scream startled Himari back into reality. “No one! That was no one! No one important!” The young girl her body, facing away from the driver made her look even more guilty. Himari was lucky that Kyota never pried into her life, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t freak out about it. “Oh my god, my baby has a boyfriend—”

“NO! No! Nothing like that.” Himari cut her off, “Focus on the road, woman… Can you please keep that between us? I don’t need Akira-san to worry, or Keigo…”  Kyota quickly glanced at Himari, she looked more happy than worried, and she thought it was funny. The driver smiled, nodding, “Of course Himi-chan.”

“Thank you, he really is just… a friend. Complicated, but not the way you think.”

As the two girls arrived home, Akira was waiting at the door. A smile on his face as his favorite girl came back home. “The cats have been crying relentlessly for your return home.” The girl giggled and lunged into a hug with her caretaker. “Come on, I've been dying for some homemade tea… I got some pork buns from school that I forgot to eat.”

Himari sat in her room by herself, steaming hot pork buns and tea on the side. She took out her notebook and took pictures of the notes that she jotted down earlier today.

Typing all of the numbers into a group chat, she sent the pictures to the newly named chat of ‘dumb, dumb, and dumber’.

Sero: Lord and savior

Kirishima: Thank you! ^^

Kaminari: She’s pretty and smart.

Himari: obviously.

Sero: So! Did you do the homework :D

Himari: We got homework? || Kaminari: We go homework??

Kirishima: Oh dear

Himari: Give me an hour. Kaminari, I got you.

Kaminari: Is it too early to say I love you yet?

Himari: No one would find your body Kaminari… just letting you know

*Kirishima added Blondie to the group chat*

Kirishima: Stop her from killing Kaminari

Himari: He’d literally help me wdym

Blondie: Who’s grand idea was this

Kirishima: Yusei || Sero: Yus || Kaminari: Yusei

Himari: TRAITORS! I gave you guys my notes :(

Himari: To be fair, I didn’t invite Blondie

Himari: Kiri did

Himari: Not me.

Himari sighed, ignoring the pinging that was coming from her phone, and stared at her meal, it would get cold if she didn’t eat it soon. She reached and picked up a pork bun before taking a bite, sighing in relief. “That’s really spicy…” She mumbled to herself, picking up the bun for one more bite.

Savory and spicy was a perfect combination according to Himari, although she liked her sweets– this was a perfect meal that melted into her mouth.

She ignored the constant pinging that she unfortunately caused by making that group chat. Dotting down the questions of her homework and answering seconds late after analyzing her textbooks. She was fast with her studies but sometimes, just like everyone else– a certain question would stump her, but instead of going to Akira-san now, she could text her friend. Himari sent a quick text to Midoriya, who responded with a quick picture of him training instead of doing his homework, responding with something in between the lines of “I’ll do it tonight, I swear.” The girl rolled her eyes and hovered her figure over the contact named ‘Blondie’ she sighed, pressing her finger down on the name before typing.

Himari: You’re smart

Himari: Help me with the homework

Blondie: And why would I do that?

Himari: Because I’ll owe you again?

She quickly put her phone down, waiting for a response, the bubbles on her screen loading.

The text never came, but her phone started singing the chorus of Shinunoga E-Wa by Fuji Kaze. She quickly lunged to reach for the phone, Bakugou’s caller ID on her screen. “Hello?” She spoke into her phone, grabbing her headphones to connect to her phone. “What question are you working on?” Himari snapped her headphones on her ears, “I’m on question four, Math. I just looked at the key sheet and I go the wrong answer but I can’t figure out how.”

From the door frame, Akira leaned his weight against it, listening to how softly Himari spoke into her headphones. He didn’t want to barge in and question who she was speaking to– or as to why. She seemed happy. “Those pork buns you got me are really good by the way.” She spoke, writing down more notes on her sheet of paper. Akira rose a brow, “You might be able to fool the rest of the group but I see right through you, Blondie.” She chuckled into her phone, rubbing her cheek– she was blushing. “Yeah, yeah, you said that earlier today– now explain to me why the hell I got the wrong answer.”

Bakugou quickly explained how she got to her wrong answer, doodling the equation as he explained why it was wrong. His mom knocked at the door, “Dinner is ready twerp.” He swatted his hand quickly, signaling to go away, “Is that your mom?” A soft voice spoke from the phone, “Parents love me.” Bakugou could hear a smirk forming on Himaris’ side, “Shut it, Poltergeist.”

His mother laughed, “I’ll save you a plate, be fucking nice to that girl.” She sternly pointed at him, then at her eyes, then at him– making a ‘watching you’ movement. Bakugou tched at his mother as she closed back the door, “Masaru! Katsuki’s talking to a girl!”

“Oh my god…” Bakugou cursed under his breath, grumbling more incoherent words that Himari couldn’t hear through the phone, “Come on blasty, I need to finish this up before you decide to explode the whole world for having a hilariously funny mother.”

“Shut it or I’ll stop helping you!”

“Fine, fine,” Himari rose her arms in defense, knowing that he couldn’t see it anyway “I surrender.” Bakugou rolled his eyes and explained to her how to do the formula the correct way, giving her the same answer as the textbook. “I definitely owe you…” Himari muttered, “How about I bring you breakfast tomorrow morning, my treat.”

“I’m not eating anything you make.” Bakugou paused, “Meet me at the cafe a couple blocks away from school, I’ll send you the location– if you’re late, I’m leaving your ass!” He quickly hung up the phone, sending the text momentarily after.

Blondie: Be there at 7

Himari rolled her eyes, flipping her phone screen down before removing her headphones and rubbing her cheeks, “Long day?” The young girl joined in her seat, earning a laugh from Akira-san, who was now standing at the door with a fresh cup of tea. Himari sighed in relief, holding her hands out for the tea, “It was… Interesting.”  He had left earlier as he left guilty for eavesdropping earlier, “Would you like me to prepare a bath?” The girl shook her head, “I got it, you can rest now Akira-san. You’ve done enough, Aoki will set up dinner as she always does.”

“If you need me, you call.”

“I’ll call.”

Himari smiled at Akira-san as he ruffled up her hair. “You’re starting to look like her a little more every day.” He pinched her chin, softly caressing her face before he gave her a sad smile. “Never apologize for something you can't control, remember that okay?” Himari nodded, understanding what he meant.

She watched him close the door behind him and she sighed. Scratching her head she stood up and looked at herself in the mirror. Himari had many similar features to her mother but she never could tell what was so special about them, she only knew her by pictures, by stories she was told.

Her chest ached a little.

She knew missing someone she never knew was something silly– but something inside her felt lonely with the thought of not knowing her own mother. Himari sighed, deciding that it would be a good time to start her bath now.

Tomorrow was a new day, and she needed to relax before she confronted the day head-on.

Himari would spend the rest of the day enjoying her evening dinner with her family staff, chatting up a conversation before calling her pro-hero brother and striking up a short chat before he left abruptly to save another life.

She lays in bed, staring at the ceiling as she momentarily activated her quirk.

A spring of iridescent light fluttered over Himari, it reminded her of the milky way. The tension of mana that build within her body released as she created a storm of soft light that fluttered like stars. She reached her hand out to feel the light, it was warm– familiar almost. She closed her eyes, breathing in before the iridescent light descended back into her skin, sighing in relief.

Notes:

I feel like I'm progressing too fast with bakugou and himari- or am I going crazy? plz, tell me.
i feel like I'm progressing fine.
I think in my head, that after Himari tried helping Bakugou before Deku was like a large revelation for him.
I will elaborate in the next chapter.
