Medals on the Door

Summary:

A little One Shot set directly after the Finale of the Show

They changed the world but what did that mean for the Unit? What did it mean for Raelle? Would she decide to stay with her sisters or would she decide to leave Fort Salem to start her future with her wife?

Notes:

I needed to get this out of my system in order to process the finale. It took me some time to be able to finish this short One Shot. The pain of my favorite show ending still too fresh.
It's not my best work for sure but after thinking about it for a few weeks now I decided to post it anyway.

Keep in mind that English is not my first language so I am sorry for every mistake you might find!

xx Ashisa

Work Text:

The flight back to Fort Salem was quiet. All three girls were deep in their own thoughts. If they could believe the mother, they had changed the world forever in a drastic way. Nothing would be the same and a lot of work would be coming their way.

Raelle knew that Abigail and Tally would be ready for whatever would happen now but she on the other hand wasn’t so sure about it.
The young fixer was incredibly tired. In a short amount of time a lot had happened to her. Things she still didn’t have the time to process. Between saving the world and trying to keep her loved ones safe there was no time do deal with the trauma she had endured.

She also had to think about her beautiful wife that was waiting for her at Fort Salem.
The amazing woman who almost died just because she didn’t want to leave the blonde’s side.

She knew what Scylla hoped for, they already talked about a possible future multiple times, but the fixer knew that her wife would never pressure her into leaving. If Raelle would decide to stay in the army, then Scylla would be right by her side and that is something Raelle couldn’t fully accept.

She wanted to give the brunette the future they talked about. While being on the run it was just a dream but know that everything was over, they could make their dream a reality.
Raelle wanted it to be real and not just a dream. Deep down she knew that she didn’t want to stay in the army.
She had started that journey with the intention of dying as fast as she possibly could instead, she had found the love of her life and met her sisters. They were her family now and that would never change.

Raelle knew that Tally would understand her decision, but she wasn’t so sure about Abigail. Scylla had told her that Abigail wasn’t happy after she had heard them talking at the docks.
The blonde had no idea what the best way was to tell them that she had made the decision to leave. The only thing she knew for sure was that waiting wasn’t the right way. She had to tell them.

No matter the outcome, nothing would change her decision. The blonde would leave the army.

The moment they landed back on base Tally and Abigail got out of the helicopter quickly. Abigail wanted to check if Adil was ok, and the red head just wanted to get back to Gregorio. Of course, Raelle wanted to get to Scylla and check up on her but before she could do that, she just had to have that talk.

So, she slowly got out of the helicopter as well and started to follow her sisters, trying to find the right words to start this conversation, getting lost in her thoughts once again.
The blonde had a small window of time and with every step they took it became smaller.
Before she could stop herself, she spoke up.
“I’m leaving”
Tally and Abigail immediately stopped walking and turned around to her.
“What do you mean, Rae?” Tally asked confused.
“This is not the future I want for me or my wife. I want to start a life with her where I don’t have to be afraid all the time or where I am on the brink of life and death. I want a normal life, a family but if I stay then I would never get that” answered the fixer.
“Are you sure?” asked the red head.
“Yeah, life is too short, Tal. I know that better than anyone. I already did my fair share of dying and I really don’t want to do that anytime soon again. Not when I have that amazing woman waiting for me to get back to her.” The young fixer said.
“It’s ok, Rae. I understand” the red head replied.

Reluctant, the blonde slowly looked over to Abigail.
“I’m sorry Abigail,” said the young fixer.
“When?” was all that the Bellweather replied after a few minutes of silence.
“What do you mean with when?” Raelle asked confused.
“When are you going to leave?” the Bellweather answered.
“As soon as possible” the blonde witch replied.

Abigail just nodded and didn’t say anything after, she just kept looking at Raelle, her eyes not giving away what she was thinking.
The silence was killing Raelle. She expected that her friend would yell at her and that she would be mad but not this. Being completely silent wasn’t something a Bellweather did.

Just when Raelle thought the quiet would kill her Abigail began to speak, and nothing could have prepared her for what she was about to hear.
“It’s ok. I’m not happy about it but I understand” the tall brunette said silently.
“What?” was all Raelle could get out.
“You heard me Shitbird, I won’t repeat myself” said Abigail, louder this time.

Tears started to build up in Raelle’s eyes.
“I promise that as soon as you need me, I will be there. Scylla as well. We are still a part of this Unit. Nothing will ever change that. You guys are my family.”
“We know that Rae” said Tally, tears in her eyes as well “but it’s not going to be the same without you two.”
“I’m going to miss you” the blonde said, finally letting go of the tears she had been holding back.

Within a second Tally and Abigail were at her side, pulling her into a crushing group hug the young fixer desperately needed right now. A hug all of them needed.

Raelle was the first one to pull away. As much as she wanted to stay in that moment a little bit longer, she couldn’t. They had to get back to base because each one of them had someone waiting. She had kept them back long enough, now it was time to go find her wife.

Just thinking about Scylla brought a smile onto Raelle’s face and let her heart beat faster. After a silent walk back to base the girls split up, each one going in another direction.

Without thinking twice, Raelle started walking.
She couldn’t explain how she knew where she would find her wife, she just did. It almost felt like she was being pulled in one specific direction.

After a while she started to recognize her surroundings. Of course, she would find her wife there. A soft smile appeared on Rae’s face. It has been far to long since she was at their spot but if she thought about it then now was the perfect time to go back there.
Together with her wife, the woman who made this spot so special in the first place.

After a few more steps Raelle could finally see their tree in the distance which only intensified the soft smile on her face but as soon as she saw the person who was sitting under the tree her heart began to race.

She would probably never get used to that feeling, that effect Scylla had on her. If she was being honest with herself then she really didn’t want to get used to it. She loved how her wife made her feel.

Raelle slowed down a little so she could take in the beauty that was her wife. Scylla had her eyes closed, a small smile visible on her face. The brunette looked so peaceful in that moment. The blonde couldn’t remember seeing her wife like that ever before, but she would do everything in her powers to make sure that Scylla would get the peaceful life they had dreamed about.

Up to this moment Scylla still hadn’t seemed to notice the blonde. So, careful not to raddle the brunette Raelle slowed down before she softly began to speak
“Hello beautiful”
Almost instantly the smile on Scylla’s face got bigger and her eyes shot open.
“I began to think that you would keep staring at me” the brunette said followed by a short laugh.
Raelle looked at her surprised.
“You knew I was there? How did you know that? Your eyes were closed, and I was super silent” the blonde fixer replied.
“I always know when you are near me, Rae. I feel you in my entire body when you are close” Scylla answered with that sheepish grin of hers that drove Raelle crazy.

All Raelle could do was shake her head in disbelieve while she closed the last bit of distance between them.
Scylla immediately moved forward a little so that Raelle was able to sit down behind her. Now the blonde was leaning against the tree with the brunette in between her arms.

She took a deep breath. She didn’t know exactly when it changed but the Cession was no longer the place where she needed to go to feel safe and at home.
The only times she felt like that now was when Scylla was in her arms. The brunette had become her home, her safe heaven and the young witch would never trade it for anything in the world. Nothing could beat the feeling she had when she held her wife in her arms.

The two young witches stayed quiet for a while, just enjoying that they were finally alone and together.
Without being able to stop it an image of a dying Scylla came into her head. She had almost lost the brunette. That she couldn’t help her was worse but knowing that she was the reason that they had been in that situation was even worse. The blonde almost had killed her wife. She would have never been able to forgive herself for that.

Once again, Scylla surprised Raelle with her following words.
“Stop thinking about it. It wasn’t your fault, besides I am here with you because you did what you do best and fixed me.”
“If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t even have been in that position Scyl…” Raelle whispered while wiping away a tear.
“Stop it!” said the brunette and turned around in Raelle’s arms so she could look the fixer in the eyes.
“You didn’t want to release that. Hearst forced you to. You had no choice, so stop blaming yourself.”
“I almost lost you today…” more tears escaped Rae’s eyes.
“Hey, I’m here with you and I’m ok. We are ok. I’m not going anywhere baby. I told you, I’m not going to leave you again. It takes much more for me to leave your side again, the ring on my finger is prove for it” said the brunette while lifting her hand and wiggling with her finger to show of her ring.

This made Raelle laugh a little bit.
Proud of herself for managing to make her wife laugh Scylla smiled, whipping away the tears on the blonde’s face. If there was one thing the necro hated, then it was seeing her wife cry.

The brunette turned around, snuggling into Rae’s arms again.
“So, are you going to tell me what Alder wanted from you guys?” the brunette asked curiously.
“I will but not now. There is something else we have to talk about” replied the blonde.
“There is?” asked the brunette confused, turning her head so she was able to look at her wife again.
“While we were on our way back to base, I had time to think about a few things and I realized something.” The blonde said.
“You know you can just tell me Rae. There is nothing we can’t overcome as long as we’re together.” The necro tried to reassure the woman she loved.

Raelle looked into Scylla’s eyes for a moment before she nodded her head and spoke up again.
“I will leave the army…”

Scylla’s eyes grew wide. Never in a million years she would have thought to hear those words out of her wife’s mouth.
“What?” she asked disbelievingly.
“I’m done, Scyl. I did my job. I gave them more than enough and sacrificed more than enough for them. I died for them and the cause, multiple times.”
“What about Abigail and Tally? I know you Rae, you would never do this to them.”
“They already know. We will always be a unit and I will always be there for them no matter what but it’s no longer just me and my future. It’s ours Scyl and I know that if I wanted to stay you would stay with me, but I don’t want that. I want us both to be happy. I know how you pictured our future together, how we pictured it, and I am more then ready to finally start it. I’m done just dreaming about it Scylla.” The blonde said.

Now it was Scylla’s turn to have tears in her eyes.
“Are you really sure you want to do this?” the brunette asked, voice weak.
“Yes, I’m sure. I’m more than ready to close that chapter of my life and finally start a new one, with you by my side if that is what you want as well.”

Instead of answering Scylla pulled Raelle into a kiss, finally letting her tears escape.
She never would have thought that she could love someone as much as she loved the woman who held her in her arms.

“I love you” Scylla whispered once they broke the kiss.
“I love you too beautiful” Raelle replied without hesitation
“And I can’t wait for us to finally hang our medals on the door and for the birds to sing our goodbyes.”
“Just like we imagined it” Scylla said with a wide smile.
“It’s going to be even better than that because it’s not just a dream anymore. It’s real now” Raelle answered her wife with a matching smile.
