Work Text:
callie lay on her bed, on her back with her phone held above her with completely outstretched arms. she was scrolling through a random social media app, bored. she huffed and rolled over onto her side, bringing the phone closer to her face. this was almost certainly the most bored she's ever been. as marie would say, at least she isnt breaking squit with a dynamo roller again. sometimes marie could be pretty boring. at least callie thought so. even so, she loved her cousin. platonically, obviously. this isnt a squidcest fic. callie grumbled something under her breath, dragging her thoughts away from her gray-haired cousin. curse her wandering mind. she continued her endless scrolling, until an article caught her eye. and definitely not in a good way. the title read
"are the squid sisters dating?". callie was absolutely repulsed by this. how could anyone even suggest that!? though, laughing at stupid articles would be a good way to pass the time. sighing, she opened the article. it went on and on about how the duo may be dating. with every word, the black-haired inkling became more and more disturbed. she stopped reading, and snuck a peek at the rest of the website's articles. the rest looked mostly normal. "is off the hook dating?", "are frye and shiver dating?". yeah, it was mostly about celebrities dating. but the rest were logical! to even think callie and marie were dating was utterly disgusting! she did find the nonsense funny, though. she was bored out of her mind, anything to entertain her was enough right now. she hesitantly typed "squid sisters dating" into the search bar. with a deep breath, she hit the search button, awaiting the nonsense. her screen flooded with article after article about the two. but the images tab caught her eye. she quickly switched to images. she nearly gagged from the absolute squit she was looking at. she kept scrolling, however. it was just too entertaining and she was just too bored. suddenly, something absolutely disgusting popped up.
"HOLY SQUIT!" she yelled, completely forgetting marie was home. right across the hall. she definitely heard that yell.
across the hall, marie lay on her own bed. she was trying to relax some. between agent work, deep cut always bothering her, and making music, she was absolutely exhausted. she was listening to one of deep cut's new songs. they kept bugging her to listen to it, so she thought she might as well. suddenly, a loud yell from across the hall caught her attention. callie. she took out her earbuds, hoping it was just more of her cousin's shenanigans and not an actual threat. maybe callie saw a spider again. or eight said something gay about captain again. but still, she fumbled for her hero charger. she quickly charged out of her room, setting the charger down to bust open callie's door.
"WHA-" callie yelped at the noise, looking up to see her cousin in her doorway. "marie? what the shell are you doing busting my door open like that? it's MY job to break stuff!" marie relaxed some, seeing callie was fine.
"well, maybe don't randomly yell 'HOLY SQUIT'. i thought someone broke in or something!" the inkling shot back. "what the shell were you yelling about anyways?" marie leaned against the doorframe, arms crossed.
"well uhh.." callie paused, not knowing how to explain. marie raised an eyebrow. "did you know people think we're dating?" she asked suddenly. marie looked repulsed, mimicking callie's earlier expression.
"what? ew." marie nearly gagged at the thought.
"yeah. i, like, got bored and some random article came up and i kinda went down a rabbit hole.." callie explained.
"that.. makes a bit of sense. just don't yell next time, alright?" callie nodded. "oh, also." marie walked over and grabbed callie's phone. "stay off of this for a while." callie's golden eyes widened.
"hey! give that back!" she yelped.
"nope!" her cousin called as she left the room. she grabbed her charger from next to the door and left after shutting it. callie saw the charger and her eyes widened. marie really did think someone broke in! if she shot her, she probably would've deserved it, though. sure, marie cared about her and would never, but callie did give her permanent scars from hitting her with a bug bet when they were children.. callie sighed, and decided marie was right. she needed to stop scrolling on social media so much. still, she groaned and rolled around, even more bored than before.
