Chapter Text
“She’s top of the class, mummy! I swear, I think she’s cheating.” Scorpius was already frowning at 8 am in the morning on his first day of the school holidays.
“Oh boy,” Hermione murmured, placing her coffee cup on the saucer. “Who is it, honey?” Hermione asked. Draco looked up from his newspaper and started paying attention to his son who was brutally ruining his peaceful morning.
“She’s just some muggle-born girl and there is no way she can be smarter than a half-blood or a pureblood.”
“Hey, hey, hey! Your mother’s a muggle-born and you know what they call her on her first year at Hogwarts?” Draco interrupted.
Scorpius pouted and respond, “The brightest witch of her age.”
Hermione tried to hide a smile but couldn’t.
“And they’re not wrong,” Draco added and winked at his wife before sipping his tea.
“Well, I’ve heard that before,” Narcissa spoke after staying quiet since the minute they sat at the dining table. Everybody’s eyes darted at the former lady of the manor. Gazes filled with unspoken questions, waiting for Narcissa to spill the tea… metaphorically. “Remember when you used to not being able to stop talking about your wife, Draco?” She sipped her tea, not even looking at her son.
Hermione’s eyebrow lurked as her gaze shifted to her husband. “You talked about me with your parents?”
“It’s nothing pleasant, Hermione.” Draco avoided their eye contact and sipped his tea.
Narcissa rolled her eyes, “All the time, Hermione. You have no idea. In fact, I remember it clearly, it was the very sentence Scorpius had just said. Exactly the same.”
“Mother,” Draco felt embarrassed.
“What? You thought I cheated?” Hermione asked.
“I was twelve!”
Hermione and Narcissa chuckled while Scorpius was clueless about where this conversation was going.
“What’s going on?” Scorpius asked.
“Nothing, dear. Just be nice to your friend, alright?”
Scorpius didn’t want to but he knew better than to talk back to his grandmother,
“Okay…”
