Work Text:
The aura was just right. Warm lighting. Huge chandeliers decorating the ceiling of the ballroom. White walls elegantly dressed in flecks of gold paint. Rays of sunshine made their grand entrance through the windows splayed all across one side of the room. Cinderella couldn’t have wished for something more charming.
And in came my prince.
“I see you found the room.”
As Beomgyu made his way towards me with his soft, blonde hair catching the light, I couldn’t help the beaming smile on my face. Not because of the breathtaking room, but because I had it all to myself with him and him alone. I was nearly moved to tears before I noticed his attire. A broad blue coat layered in beige with black and gold embroidery draped over his delicate shoulders. Tufts of lace softly enwrapped all across his chest and at the ends of his sleeves. Seeing my taken aback expression, he finally reaches me, slightly bends his knees into a curtsy and offers up his hand.
“Shall we?” he softly proposes, looking at me with the most heartwarming gaze. His eyes sparkled into mine as I mindlessly let him take my hand into his.
Immediately, I fell into a trance. The vast room felt like it could fit the whole world, but here I was with mine.
Right when I didn’t think the room could feel any bigger, a melody fills the space. I look at Beomgyu surprised and he looks back at me with a reassuring look. He takes me into his embrace, never breaking eye contact. I sense our fingers interlocking, his hand guiding mine onto his shoulder, and his finally being softly placed on the small of my back. His thumb soothingly rubs up and down my back.
Relax into the music. Trust me.
He didn’t have to say the words for me to follow his steps along the dance floor. The clicks of our shoes syncing up, our movements becoming one. Our feet braided patterns across the floor, our footprints painting our path to the music.
No other magic
Could ever compare
They say some days feel like straight out the movies, but not even a Disney production could capture what I felt at that moment. The sensation of being small relative to the gargantuan venue, only being able to take up a few tiles worth of space. I would never be able to take enough steps to cover all the polished ground. My small feet partnered by his were incomparable to this stadium of a room. But feeling small didn’t equate to feeling irrelevant. Because here I was, my lover in my arms, me in his. We could just be specks of dust on this floating rock, but looking into his eyes I felt like something more. Way more. I was his everything. He wanted to give me everything he could. He would only want me to be comfortable and happy. His only wish was to give me the best life I could have. But little did he know just him being in my life was more than enough.
His grasp tightened ever so slightly and my attention immediately came back to reality. I looked up at him in concern.
“Is everything okay?”
He sighed then chuckled. “Haha yeah, I just wanted to give you a little squeeze to make sure you’re still real. My daydreams these days have been feeling a little too realistic, ya know?”
“Maybe the script writer is just that good. Have you ever thought about that?” I poked fun at him, quirking up my eyebrow.
He responded with a tighter hold, enough to squeeze a giggle out of me.
“You’re so beautiful,” he said softly with a more dreamy look on his face. Now he was the one who seemed to be in a trance. He continued at a whisper I wouldn’t be able to make out if I wasn’t inches away from his perfectly sculpted face.
“I couldn’t bring myself to say these words but I found a song that would help me recite them to you.”
I noticed the music that had been playing, but now a familiar deep voice sang along.
For as long as I live
And as long as I love
I will never not think about you
Beomgyu’s gravelly singing voice filled the air around me. The lyrics sung in his specific tone scratched the right part of my brain. My ears twitched at the heavenly sound. I would only ever want to hear this for the rest of my life. His lower register were now paired with his fingers tapping to the piano down my spine. All my senses were focused on him.
From the moment I loved
I knew you were the one
I was right about Walt Disney never being able to recreate this night in a million years. But he did get one thing right. Having Choi Beomgyu with me that night in all his royal, magical glory provided me with one thing and one thing only:
Happy ever after.
