Chapter 1: The Final Battle

Chapter Text

Well that hurt. Thought Severus. Next time I need to bring more pain relieving potions. Although I hope there won’t be a next time, he thought wearily. He worked his way to a standing position. Might as well get on with it, he thought as he chugged another blood replenishing potion. Severus started walking back towards Hogwarts. I need to get to the Hallows, he thought as he cast a disillusionment charm on himself. He walked into the castle and told the Fat Lady the password to the Gryffindor common room. He found Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak and went back down to the courtyard where a battle was raging. He pulled the invisibility cloak out over himself and started drawing runes in a square that would be able to hold everyone in the courtyard. Finally, he walked to the back of the courtyard and took something out of his shirt. Well here goes nothing, he thought as he spun the time turner.

He went back an hour in time, just in time to see the final battle begin. Good thing Potter never saw me in the shack or I’d be in trouble. Let’s hope this works!

”This ends here Tom,” said Harry as he stepped up to face his rival.

”Ahh, but Harry, I hold the Elder Wand and with it I will be unbeatable!”

”That’s Dumbledore’s wand!”

”It is! It is the Elder Wand! And I have mastered it! I killed Snape, the one who held it after Dumbledore!”

The crowd listened to the exchange in shocked silence. No one knew that Dumbledore’s wand was the Elder Wand, nor that Snape had been its master. Suddenly, Voldemort made an order.

”Go my dementors! There are souls to feed on!”

The dementors advanced on the Light and everyone moved closer together. They knew that not a single person there could cast a patronus strong enough to beat back that many dementors. When all of a sudden a bright doe comes bounding over to them. It warded off all of the dementors and those who fought in the first war immediately recognized the patronus. It was Lily’s patronus.

”That’s quite enough Tom.”

”Snape?! But I killed you!”

”No, you sent Nagini on me and then thought I would bleed out.”

”But how?”

”I am a Potions Master and you have given me access to your snake for many years. I developed an anti-venom.”

Suddenly someone gasped.

“You’re the man from the hospital!” exclaimed Arthur Weasley.

”What are you talking about Arthur?” asked his wife.

”When I was in the hospital, a guy wearing a black cloak came in and gave me a potion. He said not to tell anyone he was there. The next morning the healer came in and told me the poison was moving out of my system!”

”Yes, Arthur, that was me.”

”Thank you.”

”You’re welcome. Now, Harry come here for a second.”

Harry was shocked at the use of his first name, but complied. Snape touched his fingers to the scar and when his fingers moved away a tendril of black was coming out of the scar.

“There. Now I can get rid of Tom and he won’t come back! Please move back that way.” Severus sent an almost imperceptible nod to the Malfoys.

”You were my spy Severus!”

”You thought I was your spy, Dumbledore thought I was his. Who was right?”

”Dumbledore,” a voice called from the back. Soon everyone had their wands drawn at the speaker. It was Lucius Malfoy.

”Relax your wands, he’s right. And I would rather you not hurt him as he was responsible for helping me give information to the Order.”

”What?!”

”Oh Tom, you shared information, but not enough on active operations. And you didn’t account for the fact that some were forced by their families to become Death Eaters.”

”Enough! I will kill you and then him! What is the point of this meaningless conversation if you’re going to die anyway?”

”Stalling.” Suddenly a large blue barrier appeared around the crowd. Everyone started shouting and trying to break the barrier.

”It’s no use, it’s blood magic,” said Narcissa, “it won’t break until the caster releases it or dies.”

They all turned around to find all of the Death Eaters battling against Snape. They all marveled at the battle. It was the fastest thing they had ever seen. Snape was taking out enemies left and right. None of them even left a scratch! Soon all the Death Eaters were either knocked out or dead.

”Looks like it’s just you and me left Tom.”

”Indeed. You are impressive Severus, but you have run out of energy.”

”Ahh, but I haven’t.”

Soon the two were firing spells and fighting in the fastest battle ever seen. The one of Snape’s body locking spells got through.

”Accio Elder Wand.”

Severus used the spell again and brought the invisibility cloak to him. Then he fished a black stone out of his pocket. He laid all of the items in front of him and began chanting.

”Puer Mortis matrem vocat mater Mors negotium meum explevi…”

Soon a dark shadow appeared. That shadow materialized into a woman with a large black hat and veil and a pitch black dress and cloak. Her veil seemed to be made of the night itself, and her long black hair looked like it was made of ink.

”Severus.”

”Mother Death.”

“You have completed your task.”

”I have. He is behind you, as are the Hallows.”

”Thank you child. I will collect them and his soul soon.”

“Thank you.”

”You are welcome my child…as a little one you called out so many times and then would fight back right when I thought I would have to come get you.”

Severus smiled.

“You have had many a brush with me over the past few years. I’m glad life has finally gone your way. My end of the bargain will be in the Great Hall in 5 minutes. I have given you a second star below your first if you ever have a need to contact me again. Goodbye my child.”

”Goodbye Mother Death.”

And with that Death collected the soul of Tom Riddle and the Hallows and left.
