Chapter 1
Time and time again Kate had told her family that she did not wish to partake in the London Season. That she did not wish nor want to marry. But do they listen. No.
Her family insisted that they knew best. That taking part in the London Season and finding a husband to marry would make her happy.
And now because of their machinations she now had a rake of a Viscount trailing her heels. All Season Kate was forced to bear witness at Viscount Bridgerton’s attempts to court her. To convince her to marry him.
And each time she refuted his attempts. Refused his offers of marriage. But he did not deter. He kept trying to convince her to marry him. And now his latest stunt.
An invitation for her entire family to his family’s country estate, Aubrey Hall.
Kate scowled at the sight outside the carriage window.
Lady Mary frowned at the sight of her stepdaughter.
“Now Kate I wish you wouldn’t scowl so,”admonished Mary.
“What do you expect Mama?”deadpanned Kate in a flat tone. “We are about to arrive at the country estate of a man who doesn’t know how to take no for an answer.”
“Didi please?”admonished her younger brother Edwin. “Lord Bridgerton is a good man and he wants to marry you. He will give you a good and loving life. Why must you treat him so?”
”Because while he might want to marry me I on the other hand don’t wish, nor want, to marry him,” answered Kate in an angry tone.
Mary frowned, “Is there any man you do wish to marry? Tell us now dearest and I promise we will give our full support.”
“No I don’t. In fact like I told you countless times before. I have no wish to marry anyone.”
“Why?!?!”
“Because I don’t want to. Marriage is not for me!”
“I just don’t understand Kate. Why are you so against marriage?”
“What I don’t understand is why you would think that marriage is for me? Especially at my age,” huffed Kate as she rolled her eyes slightly. “ I agreed,quite reluctantly I might add, to take part in the London season. But I never said I would actually get married. Much less to a Rake like Viscount Bridgerton.”
”But Didi!”whined Edwin.
“No Edwin!”scolded Kate roughly. “For the last time no. I will not marry him or any man! And that is final!!”
Edwin and Mary could only share a despondent look. For the longest time they have tried to understand why Kate kept refusing to marry but alas.
Meanwhile at Aubrey Hall Anthony was pacing back and forth in out front awaiting the arrival of the Sharma family. More to the point the arrival of a certain young lady, Miss.Kathani Sharma.
For the longest time he had been trying to court the young lady. He even tried to propose marriage to her but she kept refusing. And each time he had kept trying to change her mind. But to no avail she still refused to consent to his proposal.And he couldn’t understand why.
Which was why he invited her and her stepmother and brother to Aubrey Hall. He had high hopes that after spending time with him here she would finally consent to his proposal.
If not then his hopes of ever marrying would be for nought. For amongst all the young ladies he had met only Miss. Sharma was the perfect candidate to be his wife. With her intelligence, beauty and talents she would make the perfect life partner for him.
Not to mention he is madly in love with her.
If only he could get her to agree to be his wife.
But he had plan. For if all else fails. If she won’t willingly say yes to proposal, he might just take things in hand and cause a scandal which would ensure either way that she would marry him.
Not very gentlemanly he knew but….
Finally after what seemed like ages the Sharma carriage had arrived…
