Work Text:
“It didn’t have to be like this, but now you’ve ruined everything.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That day, it was relatively peaceful and unassuming. Children played in the streets, the birds chirped, the sun shone.
Akane wouldn't have thought something as awful as this would've happened today; yet here she was, staring at her boyfriend's phone, tears blurring her eyesight as she scrolled angrily through the blue and white texts.
How long?
You see, Nekomaru had been acting weird lately. He'd been staying out late at work more than usual, canceling all of their plans together, and worst of all, had been ignoring her in favor of his phone. He used to shower her with love; while Akane had told him to have some time for himself, this.. this was all too much.
Hell, he'd even changed his password!
The thing that really tipped her off, however, was the way he'd react when she came close to him while he was on his phone. If she even so much as passed by him, he would tilt his phone to the side, as if he was hiding something.
So, on this day, she waited until he had gone down in the basement to organize his in-house gym or whatever- she couldn't give a lesser crap. He, luckily for her, had left his phone open, and that was how she had discovered these texts.
She brimmed with a mixture of rage and complete despondence.
Akane wanted to scream, to punch something, to do anything to relieve her feelings. But, she knew nothing would help with this large, open hole in her heart. It felt like everything was being sucked out of her, everything that made her.. her.
She sobbed, throwing the phone down on their- NO, his -bed.
Those texts said things she never wanted to see again. Dirty, nasty things, that he had once said to *her* in their most intimate moments. And, now, he was saying to another woman.
Oh, and the pictures.
Those pictures Nekomaru had sent to that young lady, they were most certainly reciprocated.
Akane had never wanted to vomit so badly than this moment.
This woman he was messaging was several years younger than her, and just happened to be one of his clients at his job. She didn't know how it started, but she most certainly knew how it was going.
She heard familiar steps thundering up the stairs.
At any moment, he would throw open the door, smile across his face and arms wide open for a hug.
He better prepare his ass, she thought.
And, sure enough..
"HEY KAN-KAN!!" He shouted enthusiastically, door banging off the wall loudly.
His arms dropped to his sides when he realized she wasn't coming up to him.
His smile also dropped when he noticed the phone on the bed, and her teary eyes.
She could see him piecing it all together.
"Kan-Kan, I-"
She stomped up to him. "SHUT IT! DON'T TRY TO EXPLAIN YA'SELF- I'VE SEEN IT ALL!"
He stepped back, obviously not expecting this. He decided to play dumb. "Whaddya mean?"
He questioned, scratching the back of his head nervously.
"..."
Suddenly, he felt a great force on his chest, pushing him back and causing him to stumble, almost falling over a chest of drawers.
She had pushed him.
"DON'T ACT STUPID, NIDAI! YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!"
His face paled.
She had called him by his last name.
"Akane, I.. we were just jokin' around! We're friends, you know? Hehehehe.."
"FRIENDS SEND *NUDES* TO EACH OTHER?!"
Wow, he was doing a bad job trying to cover this all up.
She wailed. "THREE YEARS, NIDAI! THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE, I WASTED ON YOUR ASS. I HAVE PROVIDED FOR YOU TIME AND TIME AGAIN, AND THIS IS WHAT YOU DO TO ME?"
"It's not what i-"
All of a sudden, a sharp pain stung his cheek. Nekomaru raised a hand to it, feeling the hot mark his girlfriend had left a moment before.
She became quiet.
He looked down upon her, shocked.
Akane averted her eyes. “It didn’t have to be like this, but now you’ve ruined everything.”
"What do ya mean by that-?"
But, she probably hadn't heard his words, as she ran down the stairs.
"WHAT DO YA MEAN?!" He shouted down there, quickly following suit.
"I'M BREAKING UP WITH YOU! MY BROTHER WILL COME TO PICK UP MY STUFF!"
And, before he could even reach a hand out to her, maybe to stroke her hair, to caress her cheek and tell her he wouldn't do that again- she was gone. The front door slammed behind her.
This was the worst mistake Nekomaru could've ever made.
