It wasn't that the whole demon hunting business was particularly smooth sailing to deal with, but some cases were just a bigger bitch than others. The silver lining now, Raymond supposed, was that he didn't have to deal with it alone anymore. The downside was that he simultaneously had less and yet *more* stress to deal with.
Rebecca was strong, formidable and stubborn as all hell, but even she had her limits. Tonight's demon seemed to hit every single of them.
The demonic being was gone, but Raymond had to deal with the aftermath, which was a very exhausted, very confused, and badly bruised Rebecca Owens. Raymond couldn't take her to a hospital, not with her rambling about kicking the demon's ass like she was currently doing, so he patched her up as best he could in the basement, ignoring Vallery's snarls and threats from the next room, then he hauled Rebecca into his car and drove her home.
Luckily, she knew who Raymond was and never once fought him or made the situation more difficult.
"D' we get 'em, Mr. Delver?" She slurred from the passenger seat, head slumped against the cool glass of the window.
Raymond breathed out a soft laugh. "Yeah, we got 'em. I'm taking you home now."
"S'been a long night."
"Yeah, long night. You deserve some rest."
"We both do," were her last words, followed by a soft snore.
The car ride didn't take too long, and Raymond felt slightly bad for having to wake her up again, but he couldn't just let her sleep in the car. She needed a warm, comfortable bed. She refused to let him pick her up when he managed to wake her a bit, stubbornly insisting she can walk on her own. He merely sighed, of course, and helped her into the apartment building anyway. She gave up arguing after a few minutes, tiredly resting her head against his shoulder as they waited for the elevator to take them up.
Rebecca's apartment was small, but cozy. Neat and clean too, Raymond noticed. It was clear everything had a specific place, even the jacket hanging over the back of the couch. Rebecca seemed slightly more coherent enough and moved away from Raymond to kick her shoes off, and opened the door to their right. It lead to her bedroom.
"Will you be alright now?" She didn't answer him, instead opting to fall down onto the bed and crawl under the covers. He took that as a yes, and reached out to close the door, when her voice stopped him. "What was that?"
She mumbled something again, and Raymond sighed, stepping into the room and making his way over to her. When he got there, leaning slightly down to hear her better, she reached out and took one of his hands into her own. "You should stay."
"Rebecca, I..." He sighed again. "I'll stay on the couch, alright?"
"Raymond," she murmured, big blue-green eyes meeting his own. "stay here."
They stared at each other for another moment, and because Raymond Delver never claimed to be a good man, he sat down on the edge of the bed, took his shoes off, and climbed into the bed next to Rebecca.
Her arms immediately circled around his shoulders, pulling him closer against her until she could guide his head to rest against her shoulder. Raymond let her, not having the strength or will to deny affection of any kind. Her fingers tangled in his hair, and she gave one contented sigh before she was out like a light. He followed soon after.
