Work Text:
You stirred awake when you heard the soft pitter patter of rain hitting your bedroom window. Your eyes fluttered open, dark lashes brushing against your cheeks as your mind was slowly dragged into the waking world. You stifled a loud yawn behind your hand before your fingers rubbed at your tired eyes, flicking out the sleep that clung to the corners of your vision. You watched the rain falling from the warm confines of your bed, tucked beneath layers of blankets that kept you safe as you stared at the dark clouds swirling outside. The rain was heavy, thunder rumbling in the distance as lightning flashed across the skies. The sudden early morning chill the rain brought with it made you shrink into your warm nest as it tried to sink its icy teeth into your skin.
With great effort you forced yourself to roll over and scoot closer to your partner’s side of the bed. Beelzemon stirred awake as you snuggled closer to him, seeking the heat that his body provided as your arms snaked around his waist. His eyes cracked open but refused to stay open for long as they slid close only a mere moment later.
"What are you up to?" Beelzemon questioned, his warm breath ruffling wisps of your hair.
You huddled close, wriggling around as you tried to find a comfy position next to him. You breathed in his familiar scent, the bite of gunpowder scratching your nose. Warmth settled in your chest, making the tips of your fingers tingle as you kneaded your hands against his chest.
"Nothing, just want to cuddle" you replied.
He grunted in response but let you do as you pleased, legs tangling with yours as you pressed your head against his chest. You sighed in content as you settled against him, a small smile playing at your lips as he relaxed against you. You closed your eyes and listened to the rain pouring and the wind howling. After a long moment, you spoke.
"It's raining pretty hard out there" you said.
Beelzemon hummed in agreement as he slung an arm over your waist, feeling your warm skin quiver as he rested his hand against the small dip in your back. Your own hands found their way around his back, fingers dancing along the ridges of his spine as you slowly rubbed his back. A pleased purr rumbled in his chest and you had to stifle the small giggle that threatened to break free.
"Do you think-"
Your sentence was cut off by a loud crack of thunder, the sound grating against your ears and reverberating through your bones. A small shriek was wrenched from your lips as you ducked your head, eyes flying open in surprise as you pressed yourself against Beelzemon. He grunted loudly when you latched yourself onto him, your small hands trembling as you held onto him for dear life. He secured his arms around you, eyes snapping open as they darted around the room. When his defrosting brain registered that there was no immediate danger to you, he relaxed, hunched shoulders easing as he lowered his hackles.
"It was just thunder. What, ya scared of a little storm?" he teased.
His jest did little to calm your nerves. You breathed a shaky sigh, trying to calm the frantic beating of your heart as it pounded incessantly in your ears. You hadn't been expecting it and you could still hear it ringing in your ears, just barely over the rain still stirring up a racket.
"That scared me shitless" you breathed.
You trembled like a leaf in his arms and Beelzemon held his tongue from setting your nerves further on edge. You almost jumped out of your skin when you felt his large hand resting against your hip, fingers rubbing against your skin to try and help you relax.
"It's okay, I'm here to protect you."
His sincere words put your mind at ease as you slowly started to relax. A smile tugged at your lips as you hugged him tightly, burying your head against his chest as you listened to the steady beat of his heart.
"Thank you" you said, voice muffled into his skin.
He pat your thigh, careful to not let his talons scratch you. "Don't mention it."
He rested his chin on top of your head, body curling protectively around you as you relaxed in his embrace. His tail coiled around your leg as you were pressed impossibly close to each other, barely an inch left between you. Once it felt like your nerves had started to settle, you spoke up, voice so quiet that Beelzemon almost didn't catch what you were saying.
"I hope it rains like this all day."
"Why is that?" Beelzemon asked as he curled a lock of your hair around his finger.
You rubbed your head against Beelzemon's chest, hiding the heat that burned your face and made the tips of your ears feel hot.
"So you can hold me like this for a little longer."
