Kakashi holds onto her, tightly, like if grabbing her strong enough would make their fate change, would make her stay with him, together.
His shoulder gets watery, something it's wetting him, but he doesn't dare open his eyes or lose his grip.
One of his hands is trapped between her locks, and his face is tucked in between her neck and shoulder. Being there he can't avoid smelling her, to feel her exposed skin touching his cheek, it's so soft he could sleep there. Kakashi would give everything he owns to lower his mask and kiss her, there, in the crook of her neck, because even though he has never kissed her he knows that the feeling of her skin on his lips is going to drive him mad and wouldn't be able to stop.
His other hand rests on the bottom of her back, keeping her in place, his hand is extended and he can't help to draw little circles with his thumb, caressing her.
When he suddenly embraced her, it took her a while to place her hands somewhere, at first she was so shocked she just froze in position. But when he wouldn't let go, she melted into him, one of her hands rested on his shoulder, tight. Her other hand found his face and neck, being this close to him couldn't keep the urge to touch him, anywhere.
Sakura's breathing troubles, she can't hold her emotions anymore. The hold he has on her it's almost as if his feelings are going through her. She doesn't need words, the fact that his hug is almost hurting her tells her everything.
She lets the tears go, out of her, out of her control. It just hurts too much.
They were so focused on the battle they didn’t have the time to process.
Everything is gone. Everyone is gone.
They just found themselves alone, in the middle of nowhere, in a desert- like dimension, and when Kakashi took in what happened and how they were out of options, he hugged her. Like if she was the only real thing he could hang on to, and she was.
Sakura slowly took in the realization and then was when she started crying, the desperation crawling through her and wanting to get out.
Slowly, very slowly, Kakashi began to pull away, but not entirely. Just enough to look at each other's faces.
Sakura can’t stop crying, she lets her head down letting the tears drop to the ground. Kakashi can’t help to soften his gaze, he reaches for her chin, cleans a tear and encourages her to lift her head to look at him.
Sakura doesn’t want to, she thinks she looks pathetic, crying like always. But he insists kindly so she raises her head a little bit just enough to look into his eyes, when she perceives the kindness of his gaze she feels better, the tears stop. She’s not alone. Kakashi is with her.
