Chapter Text
“Good job.” Isobel fist bumped Remy Scott as they left the JOC and walked back to her office together. Ever since Jubal was seconded to the Crisis Negotiation Unit, Remy had been filling in as acting ASAC. And Kristin was filling in for Remy back at the Fugitive Task Force.
They reached Isobel’s office and she sat at her desk. Remy took the chair opposite.
“Haven’t done that since we were at Quantico together.” Remy said referring to the drill they’d just participated in.
“You should come down to the New York field office more often. We do them twice a year.” Isobel said with a smirk.
“I like my neck of the woods actually, but thank you.” Remy said. The FTF where Remy normally served as SSA often worked in rural New York where there were no yellow cabs and you could smell the misty forests on a cold morning and he liked it that way. Not that Manhattan didn’t have it charms…and good bagels.
“How is your mom by the way? Tell her hi from me next time you see her.”
“I could, but I don’t know if she would remember who you were. She sometimes doesn’t remember who I am.”
“I’m sorry, that’s really sad Remy.” Isobel remembered Mrs. Scott from her childhood, when her and Remy were growing up together in Fieldston.
“Have you heard anything from CNU?” Remy asked.
Isobel shook her head and looked down at her desk busying herself with the paperwork in front of her. “It was only supposed to be two weeks. They keep extending him. It’s going on three months now.”
“He must really like it.”
Isobel shrugged. She had no idea but with every phone call from the CNU boss, she expected to hear that Jubal was on his way back to the NY Field Office and every time she didn’t receive that news, she was disappointed.
“It’s a good opportunity for him for sure.” She kept telling herself that over and over.
“Do you think he’s considering a transfer?”
Isobel’s head snapped up. “I wasn’t.” She looked at Remy, her mouth open. “Until now.”
Remy watched the play of emotions on Isobel’s face. “What if he is?” He asked, curious to see her reaction.
“I…don’t know what I would do without him.” Isobel said honestly. “Do you want to be ASAC?” Isobel asked Remy knowing what the answer would be.
“No.” Remy held up his hands. “Not that you and your team haven’t been wonderful of course.” It was the truth but he was itching to get back to the task force.
“Of course.” Isobel agreed. “And not that it hasn’t been wonderful working with you too,” Isobel meant what she’d said and Remy smiled. If she had to have anyone fill in for Jubal, she was glad it was a friend and someone she could trust. And the time they’d been able to spend catching up had been precious. “but I just think his skills are needed more at the JOC than CNU.”
Remy nodded and continued to watch her. “Well, I’m sure he’ll be back any day now.” He said although he wasn’t sure of any such thing. Isobel’s shoulders relaxed. “Why don’t we go pick up some bagels for the team, they really nailed that drill.” Remy asked.
“Good idea.” Isobel said and tried to put any speculation of Jubal’s future plans out of her mind.
