Chapter Text
One would think heaven, the literal paradise would be a place full of excitement, joy and eternal happiness.
and for the most part it certainly is, the human who had done their share of the good deeds were sent up here is treated with the best that heaven's had to offer.
The most delectable food in all the 3 realms, endless stream of on-demand entertainment among all the good things one would need, provided they work for it.
Because believe it or not, there is work in heaven much like a society on earth.
Albeit everything is much more tolerable and there isn't as much suffering on a day-by-day basis compared to what it's like on earth
But they are still immortal, and those who have stayed long enough know.
It will get boring quick.
Most opted to join the exorcist and help purge hell to relieve "Stress" while a very few joined in on the Bureaucracy and make heaven run through red tape.
A job that is considered a mental suicide if one were to do it for long enough. Still...someone gotta file those papers.
Other jobs like teachers are also a thing as there are still the occasional new angel that were born, or human that died young and came up here, even some adult angel who haven't gotten proper education yet. They are welcomed to learn.
And then...There's the field job
A job that requires an angel to be present on earth for a myriad of possible things, Guardian Angels, House Angels and even Healers on rare occasions.
And that includes.
the A.N.G.E.L or Achieve Normality Guardian Executive League
It is an organization consisting of multiple angels assigned to help maintain normalcy on earth, more specifically...
Combating the Occult and Demonic intervention.
Which is where our story begins.
Sounds of keyboard tapping can be heard throughout the small house in a quaint little neighbourhood in heaven.
The owner was hunched over at his computer, stacks of paperwork next to him as he work tirelessly to digitize and file them.
One would think a field job like this would require much more action and a lot less... paperwork.
But that's not the case since there isn't an assignment for this particular angel yet, so here he was, stuck at home filing paperwork.
"Daddy!" a voice called out to him before he felt something on his leg.
The angel smiled as he looked down, his daughter was hugging his leg.
"Hey there my little Starfire!" The angel affectionatly cooed, picking up the little baby owlet.
She's barely 3 years old and yet she's already so energetic.
He's tired from working all day at his desk, but he always spares some energy to spend with his little Starfire.
The angel coos and tickles the little owlet causing her to giggle.
"You hungry dear?"
She nods and that was all he needed before getting up and making his way to the kitchen.
He sets her down on the high chair and grabbed some frozen mice from the fridge to heat them up.
He could use a little snack himself.
The microwave dinged and he brought out the mice. Carefully blowing on them Before letting his daughter take a nib.
"Not too fast dear" He commented as the owlet was practically inhaling the mice he offered. Which she soon regretted as the owlet puffed up a tiny bit trying to cool down the mice that were inside her mouth before swallowing it.
The angel giggled as he ate one himself, since an avian like him doesn't have teeth and thus can't chew. He simply swallowed the mice whole.
The two were enjoying their snack together when his phone rang.
Reading the name of the caller, he was both joyous and also slightly terrified.
A.N.G.E.L Headquarters.
It means a myriad of things.
He either got fired or his paperwork was not in order and he need to re-file them.
Or maybe
Just maybe
He was assigned a task.
He took the phone and hit the answer button before bringing it up to his ear.
"Agent Stolas Noctua?"
"Yep, that's me!"
"We need your presence at Briefing room H tomorrow at 10 am. We have a case for you".
They immediately hung up after that, leaving Stolas in shock...and excitement.
Finally, he was going to be assigned a case!
"Dada?" Via looks at him in confusion.
Stolas had the biggest smile on his face as he pick up the little owlet, holding her up high and twirling around the room in joy.
"I'm finally on a case Via!" He proclaims excitedly to the little owlet.
"Yay!" She doesn't know what her dad is talking about but she's just happy that he's excited.
Stolas was nervous
He had only been to the HQ a few dozen times during his short employment with A.N.G.E.L. One was for the interview to get the job, and perhaps another two time after that to come turn in some physical paperwork.
The day has come though, he was waiting for this moment ever since he learns of the organization's existence.
He was dressed in his best outfit, A long elegant white coat with gold lining. His light blue dress shirt and tie along with white suit pants.
The angel stand in front of the building, there were a couple of other angels milling about as the organization is decent in size. With all the power heaven got, they hardly need that much agent to combat the daily occurrence of the Occult and the demonic.
If something more serious were to happen then that would be the job for the Holy army.
Stolas took one deep breath as he pushed on the glass door and made his way inside.
Navigating the halls was a breeze, and soon enough he was standing right in front of Briefing Room H
He looks at his watch
9:50
Right on schedule...albeit a little early. He thoughts.
The angel opens the door and take a seat inside the empty room.
He was soon joined by another angel.
She was wearing 4 piece white suit, the same style as every other agent that is employed at this building full-time.
She had a clipboard in her hand and a small white box with a small circular hole on the side of it which contains a reflective lens.
Stolas immediately recognised that as a portable projector. It doesn't require power or be hooked up to a computer to work as it simply uses angelic energy and some photos to display.
"Greetings Mr Noctua I'm agent Laura. I shall be going over your first case assignment and briefing today" She starts before flipping on the projector, Which shows a couple of dead bodies.
Immediately Stolas felt sick
"These are the pictures taken in the aftermath of a string of murders that happen throughout the U.S. While it may seem random at first, our scan shows that a demonic energy signature flared up near these murdered victims. And we were able to find this picture posted on earth's Internet".
She changes the photo in the projector, now revealing a blurred shadow figure, it doesn't look human, they seem to have a horn, a long pointy tail, sharp claws and glowing yellow eyes.
Imps.
"They keep appearing and disappearing all over the place, show up, kill someone and gone without a trace. While they are only lower hellborns, it's still important that we protect the human life they are trying to take away".
Laura rests her hand on the table
"And so for your first case assignment Mr Noctua. You are hereby to Monitor, Sabotage and potentially Neutralise these imps. Any question?" She asks him as she handed over the case file containing everything he needed to know about the case.
Stolas had tons of questions but it mostly revolves around the fact that his first-ever assignment is...to tackle with a group of imp.
An angel could kill a Goetic Demons and yet here he was, assigned to deal with one of the lowest being in hell.
It's almost insulting, to say the least
But he wasn't about to complain since the alternative is to file more paperwork.
So for now...He shakes his head, no further questions.
"Good, You can start as soon as possible and provide a report on your encounter with them, Dismissed"
With that, Laura grabbed the projector and made her way out the door followed shortly by Stolas.
He made his way home to get ready for the mission at hand.
As the angel open his door, He was greeted by a young cherub whom he had hired to babysit his daughter whenever he was not home.
"Oh! welcome back Mr Stolas!"
The little fox cherub greets him
"Daddy!"
Via's voice called out to the angel as she was on the floor just below the cherub floating in front of him.
"Thank you Katy for coming in on such short notice"
The angel thanked her as he picked up his daughter
"Aw chucks it's no problem at all! I'm right next door so you can always rely on me to look after little Via here"
The cherub said as she patted the little owlet's head causing her to giggle.
"Yeah...about that, I'm being assigned a case and I'd need you to look after her more than ever"
"OH! Congratulations sir, it has been long overdue ever since you joined!"
The fox beamed at him
"Yeah...Kinda wish it was something bigger than dealing with a couple of imps but, can't complain really, it beats doing paperwork all day".
"That you be right sir, Don't worry, I'm more than happy to look after Octavia while you are gone".
"I appreciate it Katy, now I'll take things from here for now and I'll be leaving around this afternoon to patrol the human world, so see you then!"
"Ofcourse!"
And with that, the cherub fluttered her wings and flew out the door and into her home right next to Stolas. The teen doesn't have a job yet and is still studying so she made some money by babysitting Octavia.
Stolas takes Via into his room and set her on his lap as he goes over the case file he was given.
This was a simple enough job
